<...> beyond the July 30th deadline.<...>

30th doesn't seem to be the deadline anymore - or did I misunderstood Steve's post #71 in StockXpert forum? He said the the program is not expected to launch before end-Aug...

(it's on that page --> http://stockxpert.com/forum.phtml?f=showtopic&n=15291&p=4)

@MikLav Check the StockXpert forums. Steve posted there this morning that it'll be mid August before they actually put anything on Photos.com and that it won't be 250 images a day for the StockXpert content, but he wouldn't say how many or an actual start date or...
I just checked StockXpert forum today morning (my time) and saw nothing from Steve for several days, just like here. Good he is back commenting again.

it's a pity Steve isn't answering for several days - perhaps vacation? I would be very interested to see what StockXpert can say about ELs at $0.30 at photos.com

It would be nice if we could set up some sort of union to protect the contributers interests. If you could get the top 5000? shooters to buy into it maybe their collective voice could make a difference.
It isn't that bad - something like top 10-20 will actually be enough; and there are success stories in the past about agencies making adjustments after joint call from forums even without top photographers being involved.

StockXpert makes a significant portion of my monthly microstock income, so I wouldn't leave it so easily, although I have some concerns too... but I don't think it's just black and white.

On one hand "cheap ELs" (if it will be that way) seem to be unfair, and not in line neither with StockXpert nor with other micros; even completely subscription-focused SS has a special price for EL.

On the other hand, the discussion about "fair" and "unfair" pricing for stock photos resembles to me the discussions between "macro" and "micro" whether microstock is fair at all.

BTW couple of years ago there were no ELs at all, and all sales were at "micro" prices.

It will probably make sense to decrease the limit significantly for photographers consistently failing quality control. And perhaps raise the limit for photographers consistently having good acceptance ration. 50 sounds reasonable as a starting point.

Off Topic / Re: Anyone have assistant?
« on: July 23, 2008, 17:02 »
I am suffering too from not having enough time to process the pictures I shot. I tried to teach my teenager son, but he isn't into it. He is simply not interested. Finally, I found a candidate for this job and I am trying him now - hopefully he will be able to do what I need.

My problem is that I am doing photography part time and I can't hire full-time personnel, neither interims (my volume isn't sufficient for that). So I need somebody having fast unlimited internet and willing to work un-scheduled/variable part time. Luckily I have a candidate like that, and hopefully he will be able to match my requirements.

I searched http://www.freerangestock.com/ for

ireland  -- 0 results
oil rig -- 144 results, first three were roses, the rest of the page didn't have any oil rigs

sxc.hu  http://www.sxc.hu/

Ireland -- 1000 results
oil rig -- 19 reslults 18 images are showing an oil rig

You know one thing Peter Hamza said in Moscow StockXpert conference about sxc.hu? He said most new customers come to Stockxpert.com from sxc.hu. This is why I started uploading (just a few) pictures to sxc.hu.

Used to use SmartFTP, still use it one PC but after some problems switched to FileZilla on another.

Very often IS selects AOTW among new members with small portfolio. I recall they commented about that a while ago saying they are doing that to promote new talents.

Yaymicro / Re: Too early to take conclusions about Yaymicro?

Not having any sales at all I am personally not interested to upload any more pictures (until situation will change)

On the other hand to be fair they:
a) only opened officially 1.5 month ago, which is very short time by any measures;
b) actively answer questions from contributors (yes they are active in their own forum);
c) it's a summer period and this month I see a very significant decline in sales at other stocks, so I do understand why yay doesn't want to start advertising until after vacations

General Stock Discussion / Re: Will you or Won't you??
« on: July 17, 2008, 15:31 »
How about the next "Start Up" site?

Will you be diving straight in and uploading your full port or adopting a "Wait & See" approach?
1. Evaluate if it worth my attention at all. E.g. I never uploaded to Gecko, and thus didn't suffer when it got closed.
2. Upload part of portfolio to help them to start.
3. Then "Wait & See".

most of stock income is in USD while I live in Europe, so I only feel negative impact

Adobe Stock / Re: Do I have sub-normal sales on Fotolia?
« on: July 17, 2008, 15:27 »
<...>
My sales on SS and iStock are typically 6-10 time those on Fotolia
<...>
So... is it just me? Why? I tend to have 40+ keywords, and I don't spend too much time ordering them. I've read it might affect sales, but that much?
1. me too
2. I do sort keywords, but sales on FL are much lower than IS, SS, StockXpert, DT

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Active in Forums - Increased DL?
« on: July 17, 2008, 12:35 »
it is very visible in Dreamstime statistics - my forum activity doesn't improve downloads; but my growing portfolio does. I believe iStock is the same.

Shutterstock.com / Re: do sales normally fall off quickly
« on: July 15, 2008, 09:23 »
The number of sales depends on new uploads.

However best selling images aren't always new ones. My best selling images remain on my top since early 2006, making it into weekly top-50 from time to time.

StockXpert.com / Re: StockXpert Images on Photos.com

Great news Steve! I hope it will work well.

If I understand it right, photos.com subscriptions are sold as "macro" prices and this news means one more additional sales channel for our pictures

621
Thanks, so my official IS acceptance rate is 73% :)

I suppose 2% difference(I estimated 75%) is either my estimation error, or different way IS and I counted re-submissions.

622
If you learn from your rejections, you acceptance ratio will grow with your portfolio.

My (all time) ratios are:
123 93%
DT 83%
SS ~83% - estimation, hard to say precisely not having data from the agency
FL 76%
IS 73%

General Stock Discussion / Re: Lifetime Microstock Goals
« on: July 11, 2008, 08:20 »
I don't have a life time goal and I doubt I will ever have. I like photographing, so why should I ever stop even if I achieve the goal?

I do have some goals, but they keep changing - raise my portfolio to 1000 pics, then to 5000 pics; get at least 1/4 of my income from photography etc.

One thing I know about myself (and that's a great motivation) is that there is a clear dependency of my sales on my efforts. The more I upload the more my sales grow.

yes, i have to agree with you. Oksana (I think that's her name) is always communicative.

You mean Elena?   Oksana was close...    :D
There are both Elena and Oksana on FP

Adobe Stock / Re: Rejections, rejections, rejections...
« on: July 08, 2008, 08:11 »
I agree that Fotolia rejections went crazy and ridiculously unreasonable. In the past I found their rejections completely random, but they were seldom. Now they reject more than half. Anyway, I don't care too much because they are among my worst sellers (although it is still annoying that I waste my time for uploading/categorizing).
