Photographing bank notes, government documents, government or military buildings, airports, railway stations etc. is generally illegal in most countries, including Russia and USA. Especially now with "war against terrorism" you could run into serious trouble.

Btw. photograph of bank note is for copyright law the same as photographing someone elses photo so it should be baned anyway. Wonder why so copyright/logo/trademark picky stock agencies easily accept bank notes, coins or map photographs which are all covered by copyright?!

Here in Czech republic is Canon cashback but the prices are still about 30% above US prices.  >:(

If we forgot about Canon 1D and Nikon D3 which are very very pricy stuff, Pentax K20D, Samsung GX20 or Sony 350 and Sony 700 could be very good. Unfortunately they are on the market too short to foresee how they will perform after 1-2 years.
Announced full-rame Sony cameras with 24MP and Sigma DP15 with large Foveon sensor could stirr the market later during this year. I think its too early to go beyond 12MP if you dont want to buy Canon/Nikon topmodels.

Fred: That might be also result of subscription model and not best reviewers. When you have 25 downloads daily available, you just browse and download what you like even if you dont need it right now.

Like akatom Im nature/landscape/travel photographer and I have my own reasons why I will not submit any photos with ppl to microstock. I know its not selling so good as business, fashion etc. but my sales are growing so I dont complain  ;D

Its true you must do pics that sell. And you mut do pics that earn! Making stunning pics like Yuri does with studio and super camera is nice but do they pay fot themselves? How many thousands downloads you need to cover your expenses? How much is good revenue for you?

« on: February 28, 2008, 12:48 »
I got there with first try in december  ;D However I must admit that I wouldnt without lot of studying of SS requirements before. I have portoflio of nearly 500 images at macro stock agency and never got a single refusal, though half of those images will be rejected asap on microstock!

Adobe Stock / Re: Strangest rejections
« on: February 28, 2008, 12:06 »
I got several rejections on DT with "poor lighting, bad compo" on pics already published in premium magazine. After I wrote email to editor that this seems really very strange to me, I got next picture rejected with "undefined rejection"   ;D

General Stock Discussion / Re: Jump to 12MP or 16MP DSLR worth it?
« on: February 28, 2008, 10:08 »
Its probably not worth only because of microstock, but very reasonable for macrostock or midstock. With 48MB uncompressed required by Alamy, incredible sizes required by many other agencies its better to invest into really good body now and be ok next few years rather then spend next 2-3 years balancing with the minimum tightly passing camera.

Most ppl have trouble with SS, surprisingly I have much more problems with DT. My average acceptance at SS is about 70%, last 50 pics got only 2 rejections.

I do it this way:
1.) noise filter with NeatImage, using autoprofile
2.) clean the rest of "noise" (eg skies) with blur tool - 65%
3.) oversaturate
4.) resize to 4MP
5.) add IPTC data
6.) upload via ftp

The whole noise and resize procedure is because of SS "noise-everywhere" issue. I have older Olympus E-300 which simply always have some little noise in the sky even with iso100. They pay the same for all pic sizes downloaded so I really have no reason to upload large images if I can avoid many trouble uploading smaller ones without getting less money.

Never got single image refused for noise or artifacts. Most refusals are "poor light/wrong WB" or "focus". In most cases it seems to be just excuse for "we dont like this". Poor light usually occurs with more creative images and out of focus mostly happens with shallow dof images. I must admit that about 30-40% rejections were correct reasons - the rest was obviously nonsense.
So better avoid any specific or creative light conditions or shallow dof, they seems to go beyond "SS reiewer guidelines" and become rejected.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Sigma DP1 - a good pocket camera?
« on: February 26, 2008, 12:12 »
The fact is that its "only" 4,7MP but really effective. All other sensors do have bayer mask so they in fact interpolate 75% of red and blue and 50% of green. So they say we have 10 "effective" MP but they have much less! Thats why Sigma DP1 has 14MP after same (!) interpolation as all other cameras use (better say have built-in). Unfortunately most stock agencies have no clue about technology and for most of them Canon and Nikon are the only camera producers...

DP1 is excellent model for advanced and pro photographers with superb picture quality. I saw unresized pics and its noise, colors and sharpness are unbelievable, definitely much better then many low end DSLRs. I can imagine using this as pocket camera for landscapes or cityscapes. Its miles ahead from all other PS cameras, you cant compare that with ultrazoom cameras. Its like comparing offroad with F1 cars - they have completely different use and audience.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: EOS 40D vs 400D?
« on: February 26, 2008, 11:38 »
Guys, sorry, but why the heck do you compare low end cheap plastic body (400D) with semiprofi metal splash and dust proof body(40D)? Thats the real advantage of 40D against 400D.  Just try to use your 400D in rain, extreme dust or give it some nasty shock and you will soon enough discover the real difference...

40D has also other advantages, but its durability is very far beyond 400D. 400D was not made for every day use, especially not outdoors.
