General Stock Discussion / Re: Upload quotas?
« on: April 21, 2008, 21:45 »
Canstock SAYS you have a limit - but I've never been stopped ... mine is 25 per day and I just submitted 33.....so not sure what that's about - maybe 25 through the site, unlimited on FTP?

Cameras / Lenses / Re: A recommended lens from God
« on: April 20, 2008, 10:40 »
Today, and every night when I go to bed and thank him. I now ask for recommendations on improving my sales and improving the "Download-ability" of my images. I have not recieved an answer yet. I don't think he knows
what "Download-ability" means.

 ;D lol

So many of them are just instantly recognizable.  Don't the approvers know the work of some of the best microstock artists in the world?  If they don't, then they should be forced to study them.

Does DT show the contributor on the reviewer's screen?  I know CanStockPhoto said they weren't going to - so reviews were fair & anonymous.  If that were the case on DT, they would THINK it was a Lumax.

481
I have Adobe Premiere Pro.  It's fast, VERY lightweight and does everything I need.

482
We have a Panasonic home camcorder we got for $150 or $170.  We have sold on SS and continue to upload new vids.  It's about the cheapest you can get - so anything that's a "real camcorder" and not a camera with a video feature, you should be ok.

Crestock - so much so that I have stopped uploading there.

Dreamstime.com / Hilarious DT rejection!
« on: April 17, 2008, 17:26 »
SO I did these silhouette shots - one adult, one kid.  I uploaded MRs with them to show that a) these are my images and b) I have the right to use these people's photos.

REJECTED!

Reason:  No identifiable person in the image, no MR needed.  Please correct the problem and resubmit.

 :D :D :D :D

Rejected for HAVING a MR?

Is there something distinct on his buttons that would set it apart from all other suits?  Some sort of logo or whatnot on the buttons?

WOOT.  lol

LuckyOliver.com / Re: LO closure 'the first of many....'
« on: April 16, 2008, 21:34 »
I think LO had some fairly unique problems which would keep it from succeeding - it didn't appeal to industry & design types.  It appealed to fun, silly, interesting people - but buyers want simplicity.  If I were designing a micro, it'd be like this - see a photo you like, buy it - simple.  Not a ton of razzmatazz - strong search engine, clean interface, very easy to understand and make purchases from.  Everything else could be relegated to a "photographer's side" or a menu item.  Buy. Photos.  That's what we want them to do.

488
What?  They have been consistently a week for me since Easter, before that they were consistently 4-5 days.  I once had one reviewed in 3 days.

I don't know how they set their queue but if I add a file right now I'll bet it says something like 47 hours or something under 3 days.  It's usually within 10 hrs for me so if it says 47, I'm reviewed in 40-55 usually.

Maybe it's your time on the site (been there since 2004) or your accept % (mine is high)

Hard to tell in the first.

In the second, what's on the side of the book and then what's on the headset?  I can't tell because of the WM but it looks like there may be a title on the side of the book and some word/words on the black part of the headset above his ear?

In the third - what's on the back of the book, our view top right corner?

Is there something distinct on his buttons that would set it apart from all other suits?  Some sort of logo or whatnot on the buttons?

Yeah..... no clue other than that.

They reject my 50 images because of "logo/branging", but nowhere logo can be seen... crazy!

Can you post a couple of pics?

491
You have HOW MANY at Fotolia?  I can't imagine - mine get reviewed within 2 hrs there.  TOPS.

Short queue/fast review:
123RF (less than half a day)
Dreamstime (less than a day)
Fotolia (hours)
FotoMind (less than half a day)
Shutterstock (less than 2 days)

Long queue/slow review:
Bigstock
Crestock
Featurepics
Istock
StockXpert

Nonexistent image processing:
Canstock

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Simply amazing stuff - Discofilm
« on: April 15, 2008, 01:44 »
Disco film will NOT remove ... transmission fluid, discarded oil from your last oil change, bacon grease, Vaseline, WD-40, bearing grease, peanut butter...

Then what's the point!?   ::)

This method of cleaning scares me - but it could be really great for people who want a really REALLY clean sensor.  I saw the b4 and after - they are great.

« on: April 14, 2008, 22:05 »
If you're not doing model shoots:

LO, 123RF, CS, StockXpert, FotoMind and FP - all blazingly quick.

If you're doing models:

CS.....................................FP, StockXpert......123RF................SS.........

Crestock's model release thing is the coolest of everyone's by FAR.  StockXpert isn't bad all around either.

Why would you want to help someone build a portfolio to compete with you?

I kind of thought that was the point of having MSG?  Give help, get help, grow the people who are here?  I didn't know it was just a place to complain, bitch & piss/moan about reviews or better, to wait for a few people to do so then jump em.

Why are you on this forum?

Not every week.. more like every day.. major income comes from portfolio shoots, assigments, stock is only a small part of income.

Ok, shooting every day.

(Are you trying to impress me?  Our photography business OUTSIDE of stock grossed $200k+ last year on weddings, portraits, portfolio shoots and real estate photography.  I'm not easily impressed in photography - I've taught at the biggest wed & portrait convention & was asked back.  Doesn't matter, really. I'm just trying to help people find some models...)

I never need to promote myself.........

Do you think that the majority are in this position?  My post was definitely aimed at someone with a lower level of experience than someone who is already shooting models every week.  :)  That's good though - that's where we should all get to.

General Stock Discussion / Finding models
« on: April 13, 2008, 22:18 »
I just finished scheduling a BUNCH of models for this coming week and thought I'd share where I got them all.   The full post is on my blog but I thought I'd post some of it here too.  The "..." tells you where I cut down.

1) ModelMayhem - ....To find models in your area, click Browse, then choose your criteria.  I always keep it as open as possible, sorting by recent activity so you know theyre still on MM actively...

2) Craigslist - ...We got the basic structure for (our ad) off of the LuckyOliver forums, adapted it to our needs, added some of our photos from stock shoots and we try to tell everyone straight up front what the shoot is going to be like so we dont get a lot of rejected models...

3) Friends - ...The best tip I got was from (I think?) Andres Rodriguez who said he asks models at the end of a shoot if they know anyone whod like to have some fun & do a similar shoot...

4) Anywhere - ...Try this - Hiuhm, Im a professional photographer and I think youd make an awesome model.  Im going to give you my card & let you check out my stuff online.  Call me if you want to get together for a free shoot.  Then walk away.  Make your site good enough that people actually call, too! ...
-------
Anyways, hope that helps someone - we are going to be ridiculously busy this week but I'm pretty far behind in an upload contest so I need to get working!

Crestock.com / Re: 100 pictures out of focus?
« on: April 13, 2008, 14:09 »
I gave up on Crestock pretty quickly - I'm making good money on SS, IS, DT, even FT and BigStock using my files and CS rejects about 2/3 or more of them.  Even the good ones.  It's silly, so I just gave it up - I have 70+ images online and have made *one* sale.  In the same time, the unbelievably unknown FotoMind - my "noob" site - has sold 3 images and made more profit.  Hmmmm wonder which I'll keep up+ to.

Adobe Stock / Re: bold keywords?
« on: April 12, 2008, 09:05 »
"loced" word does not mean anything, there are no matches for it. :)

Maybe how many times it's been searched (lots of people making typos?) rather than how many times it's been used by photographers.

Maybe they read these posts and thought better of it. Very strange.

They must like you better than me.  It sure didn't help me. lol
