I like this idea!

As a provider i don't think all photos are worth the same!

In fact have you ever heard of a fixed price for cars? Are all cars worth the same because they have 4 wheels and engine? Don't think so.

Design, quality and brand are just 3 parameters you have to pay for. That is what i like about this site, its maybe not going to beat the big 6, but as an alternative way of Stockphoto its refreshing.

I will give it a try because i like the spirit and creative approach to the market. God luck!

Love to all!

I must say that i enjoy our little chat here. And would like to end it with a harmless little picture dedicated specially to all our contenders on this special line. I have titled this photo "chat", and would just like to say thanks to all that have read or posted anything under this section. ;-)

Love to all from windmill

TO JC-SL!

Why are you here?

To sell photos or look at nude photos?

For me a marketplace can bring both, but for some it is not OK to use  worktime to look at nudes.

I am interested in that sites that i contribute to, have the highest possible sales. I am sure MP don't will reach a position in the big 6 with a waste of buyers time or by neglecting their policy's.

If thats funny or even gets you laugh, congrats you are then very easy to enjoy.

But please, grow up a little and start to see the real thing here. Its business not a playground.

Get real!

"this is too much fun really!!   "???????

If a commercial site does not take the market seriously is that fun?

I can stand these pictures, but i don't want my kids to see them as the first thing if they look at the latest photos on MP.

I take some quiet strong pictures my self sometimes. I am not afraid of the subject, but i am an adult and I don't submit them to IS or DT, i keep them so customers that ask for them can have them.

The problem is that you don't have to search to get these images.

If i am to recommend a site for people who might bee interested in buying my photos and i know they represents the government or any multinational company's, should i recommend a site that violates the public or corporate policy's?

How hard is it really to provide a basic tool for customers that don't want to have these pictures?

I really think its a little too easy to be ironic, and call people things just for the sake that they are not "brave" to handle photos like this.

The fact is that if a commercial site is going to survive, it is not a great strategy to offend and neglect you potential clients.

I agree!

Even if i am from Sweden and I have been used to more of this stuff, I think a adultfilter is a must. This site have to take the market for real, its funky and arty OK, but for how long if you don't respect your customers?

OK "swedes" are known for the sin and we are quiet fed up with pics like this, but we must bee aware of that the rest of the world has a little diffrent approach to this subject.

For example it happens quiet regularly that  books are published with closeup genitals, pics like these are quiet regular in magazines to illustrate gender and feminismissues. One book was called "fittstim" (eg. a horde of cunts) actually had a hairy closeup of va..a on the frontshelf!

But for a commercial site, this can not bee the main approach to the market. Marketing has to be a much more debated issue for the MP staff and i really hope they understand this issue.

Its a dream uploading to this site. I really hope they will do well and wish them all luck.

I would like to make an comparison.

All can try to sing. Not all can master it.

Some of us can take lessons and do well, OK at least somewhere near that.:-)

Someone can be a worldclass soprano, not all, no matter what training they are going through.

I am sure it is the same with photo. Some have a natural feeling, maybe not born with a wideangel or tele, but close to.

I like the question, its a perspective that often comes up at dinnerparties, why do you charge "millions" when everbody can take a picture, yea right?!  :D

33
Business is about making money, both for the siteholder and the provider. If a siteholder likes your photos be happy, if a siteholder does not like your photos, too bad.

Whatever hes/her arguments are for not putting your photos highest its his right to do so. He should do so for his business is first, if you cant deal with that, too bad.

If you are in the culture business, then don't believe to much in justice because like DNA people have different taste, and should have. You can either adopt or drop.

If you learn to listen what the market asks for even you might be prosperous one day. But i can guarantee you that spreading rumors about things you are not totally 100% sure of is not going to gain your creativity or own business.

So please keep on learning and educate your self, don't tell the rest of the world that the world of photobusiness and culture is i dirty.

I dont know!

My first load of pics are pending after more than three weeks, since that some of them have been accepted at IS, FT, DT and some other small sites.

35
Interesting comment from another thread by common!

"Having been a microstock buyer, keyworder, photo editor and uploader I'm lucky to have a bit of insight here. And, i would never upload to a site I wouldn't want to buy from. Like Canstock or mostphotos for instance"

Now i wounder which sites do we harm us self by providing to?

I really wounder if its worth while uploading to any other sites than the big 6 and the ones that maybee can make a payout/year with a normal portfolio, around 1000 pics.

Yes thats probably true, i will use Irfan from now on with all photos, but definitely drop sites that don't give a payout/year. And untill i have 2000 i my portfolio? Lets hope we meet that nuber in the end of this year :D

38
Almost 4 out of 10 submit to 10+ agencies?

How often do you get a payout from the 10 +? Can it really be worth the uploading and tagging time?

And how many pics do you have as a min portfolio to get payed at all from other than the big 6?

I am a newbee and have just started uploading parts from my incredibly big 140 portfolio to IS, DT, FT,FP, MP, key, yay and photoshelter.

I started at mostphotos for about 2 month ago, what i wounder is if they do any marketing at all besides of the ads at "arbetsformedlingen" in sweden. Where they ask photographers to join and get a arena for freelance jobs.

Does mostphoto market it self in any other way?

A very god link Leaf, Thanks!

And about the two pics that are i my previous post, they are what i call different, showing the same place, but for me they are of different quality and value.

The first one is for mee, more artistic and stronger. Ok, it has a limited "web" usability, but could bee great for a branding race for large prints and outdoor marketing.

The second one is more "traditional", not a snapshot but more common and could bee used in more different ways.

I do belive they should not cost the same, and defenetly not 1 dollar for indefinite use.

Ill do this kind of giveaways only once to get accepted into the agencys then i will surely downsize and separet them for the different kind of use.

I know resized photos are not different, but if you take two shots from the same shooting for me they are not always the same.

If i take the best one to RM and keep it at 10mpx + and take the otherone to microstock and resize it to 4mpx i gain many in many ways.

1. Customer gets what he pays for, if you pay more you get the best.
2. Shorter upload/download time for customers that don't want/need fullsized pictures.
3. I gain additional sales/customers from a shootings that otherwise was "off" or out of reach for small to medium sized company's.
4. Microstock agencies get very god quality for attracting new customers.
5. Midstock and the REAL BIG 6 can still be around (for me thats important, as i aspire to make a living from photo)

New Sites - General / Re: Has anyone tried Photoshelter
« on: April 11, 2008, 03:56 »
Yes, i see.

I would offcourse not sell THE same picture as RF and RM.

But i would consider to only sell "small" 4mpx at microstock of the same theme, and full sized 10 mpx and upwards as RM.

If i go to a shooting and get 200 shots, i maybee consider to use 10-20 of them. In the end maybe 1-5 are pics that i can stand 100% behind. Then i get maybee about 10 more that is technically nice - very nice, but not excellent.

If i get shots with room for webdesign creative and they don't are exactly what the customer from the start asked for, they may still have some value as microstock?!

But i am sceptical to "give" away fullsized pictures for less than a dollar. I am a little worried that the feeling is that everything digital should bee for free is getting too much acceptance.

Thats why i consider to have my best 5% of shots only bee available as RM.

General Stock Discussion / Re: prices getting higher but
« on: April 03, 2008, 05:56 »
Interesting question!

Lower? Shall everything digital be totally free?

The big 6 are so low priced, that i wounder if its worth the time at all?

Uploading, starting a portfolio and keeping it alive takes time and if you are in 10 sites it takes a lot of time.

I am not sure that the small sites can last very long.

If photographers are going to get anything of the marketing budget that businesses and providing companies gain cred for, we should not even think about lower the prices.

I will give sites like mostphotos and other small sites that try a different approach to the market a try, but never ever will i go lower than what the big 6 are offering.

« on: April 02, 2008, 12:03 »
Thank you for your very constructive approach, michealo. I didn't know that the TV tower was copyrighted and will change it to editorial only.

That one example is of course a shame, i will fix pronto ;). I can cope with that though, i still believe sales i the only true VOTE that you can get.

Maybe my photos are not "Stocky" enough? I can live with that too!

For me high ISO photos can deliver a feeling and mood.

OK, maybee stockphoto is not about that.

But people who are putting 1-3 on because they don't like the subject is a totally different story. Take Vikavalters portfolio as a better example, she is a 1.class stockphoto provider, and please tell me which one of her photos should get a 1-3 vote?

I want mostphotos to bee a living marketplace, with a different approach to the portfolio than the big 6. I really hope they will make enough money to stay in business. But i am worried, if they don't get a commercial edge to the funky business, they may well be out of business sooner than anyone realise.

Points are fun, but in the end, cash is king.

With love to all windmill

« on: April 02, 2008, 10:07 »
I am so sorry to declare that my first comment was not 100% clear.

What i meant is that the only true vote i SALES!

The voting are just a fun and fast way for feedback. I don't mind getting 1-3 on pictures, if they are no good.

I do mind when 15 year old photographers, go round and put 1-5 on pictures that are technically correct.

Okay, not grounch, hip or in your style, thats OK, you maybe never would spend a dollar on that picture yourself.

But please, if you are interested in art. You are acting wrong if you judge photos that are technically good, with 1-4.

If there i a 10 grade scale i use the whole scale.

I don't smash 1-3 around me nor do i give 9 - 10 very often either. If you are interested in what a 10 is for me take a look at Vikavalters portfolio!

Thats a masterclass! I have been long in photo, but i am a newbee at stock, i love too see more stock that also has that fantastic artistic feeling.

Until today my votes are like this:

Given votes: Vote  %  Count
1  3.35%  216
2  4.15%  268
3  6.88%  444
4  11%  710
5  14.56%  940
6  18.05%  1165
7  19.97%  1289
8  13.21%  853
9  6.03%  389
10  2.82%  182
Total  5.85  6456

If i give someone
1-4: there is something that is technically wrong, its not sharp, its has bad light and composition.

If i give 4-5 i don't find obvious reason to put it as a rawmodel for nice stockphotos or photos.

If i give 6-8 i am pleased, it is what i think a relevant to very good stockphoto. Its technically very good, its well composed, has god lightning and will surely do well commercially.

If i give 9 or 10 i am amazed, it makes all the time I've spent on that site that day, worth the time. I would consider to buy the picture for my pleasure and make a enlargement of i at home or use it as an example of great photo when talking about art and photos with other.

I am glad that you all take your time and contribute to the fine arts and photo. I ll hope we all be rich in both experience and in some time even economically.

Have a lovely day! :D

I love the voting system.

Its fun when 15 year old photographers get a chance to judge others work.

Its fun when serious working photographers get rated by other photographers.

But i only wounder one thing? Why is not sales mentioned?

Sale is the ultimate vote!

Sales is the only feedback that makes a difference in the long run.

Thats both for the serviceprovider and artist.

I been long in photo but i am a newbee at Stock, i really appreciate that other "stockpros" and buyers contribute with feedback. Thats the only way to develop a commercial site and gain profit.
