I wanted to give you all HEARTS for helping me out in my submission to iStock- I MADE IT this morning!  Now, I will hold off until I see the outcome that is going on there but at least I can say I made the cut- it took me 7 tries!

THANK YOU ALL!

Tom

Congrats.... In my case: i passed the 3 images initial inspection over a year ago ( after several attempts) .... never uploaded any image on IS. The reason of doing  that..... just for fun 8)

Maybe wants to go exclusive on IS  ;D ;D ;D

Microstock is my principal income source ( around 67% of my total income )..... Shutterstock bring me around 60% of my total stock income.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Selfdestruction or sabotage
« on: January 11, 2013, 04:40 »
Things at istock are so out of hand that I almost cannot believe what I hear:

1.. Scam site selling cheaply
2.. Images being given away at microsoft
3.. Images being given away on google
4.. Obscure financial manipulations such as currency hedging and retro payments
5.. Countless lies and unkept promises.

It is almost like the istock HQ deliberately tries to selfdestruct the company in the most efficient way.
OR... like istock is being sabotaged by someone, a group of former employees maybe?

What is going on?

I don't know.... But i really hope they will succeed :P .

like somebody said in a previous post: after 23k downloads on IS AS EXCLUSIVE ... 30% royality for photos and 25% for illustrations.

http://www.microstockgroup.com/general-stock-discussion/should-i-drop-exclusive-%28istock%29/msg289420/?topicseen#new

.......... what can be said in addition???

I really don't want to be treated like a milk cow in a farm.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Overall RPD?
« on: January 10, 2013, 08:24 »
Calculating only the important agencies... my General RPD is $0.70  :-\ .  The highest RPD i have on DT

208
Incredible attitude  :o ..... Well, another check point on the NOT JOINING IS list.

209
I'm using Yuri's release....

210
I ended exclusivity from DT as well.

With all honesty, I can say that GIVEN THE EFFORT, you WILL NOT make more money submitting to other micros.

If you put in MORE effort, you will make more money....if you put in the SAME effort you are currently putting in, then you won't make any more than you are making.

My two cents.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Nikon d 600, any experience?
« on: January 02, 2013, 04:10 »
I've heard a story about oil spots on sensor during first 1000 clicks....

From what i read the oil spots on sensor was an issue at the first D600 models that were released. Nikon fixed that problem.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Nikon d 600, any experience?
« on: January 01, 2013, 15:19 »
Im close to buying a nikon d 600.

But but.
I have examined the d 800 files at 100 % and they are really not that impressive.
But would the d 600 files be worse or better.
Until now I have used nikon d 200 and various lenses.
it works. I get the pictures I want, I get them noisefree and shining despite that the camera is from 2005.
Isnt that amazing?
So if any of you have tried, or have first hand files and want to share, please do.

I am in he same situation... D800 or D600. I incline more towards D600 + 85mm f/1.8 G. I plan to switch from Canon to Nikon.

when you calculate the commissions on SS why everybody take in account the subscription sales????? the subs. are fixed. take in account only OD, EL, S&O.. the commissions there is between 20-30%. In case of EL's  the real commission can be even 50%.

FT - average
DT - average
123RF - above average

pie slices :

SS - 65%
FT - 15%
DT - 11%
123RF - 5%

others 4%

I believe the loyal buyers from IS are starting to realize that out there are similar agencies offering same  image quality at more reasonable prices.
As a supplier, do you think the prices and returns at some other places are 'reasonable'?

Yes, and on ALL other places the commission is not 15% and the upload limit 28 images/week  ;)

216
yes... the SS rules regarding Public domain images is very strict :(( . they sell very good on SS... others agencies still accepts PD files but the sales are scares.

As an Indy, I can entirely understand why an IS exclusive would want buyers to move from another site to IS. I hope that IS exclusives can understand why I would want buyers to move from a site that pays me 16% of a sale to a site that pays a higher percent - and yes, it is usually a higher total $ value too, even if the price the buyer pays might be a lot less.

For November IS made me 47 cents per download (ok, I'll round that 47.8 up to 48 even though it isn't clear that IS would do that) (that does also include PP, but seeing how I have no choice but be in the PP it makes sense to include it). IS is fast becoming one of the worst paying subs sites for me. That is why I want the buyers to migrate elsewhere. I think I could handle the competition from IS exclusives files if I also got the IS and PP buyers to go along with that competition.

At one time I was thinking about going exclusive, but their regular debilitating best match changes and broken promises put a squash to that. That was before all the site problems and importing of other collections really got going. I am mighty glad I am not an exclusive now trying to decide when to drop the crown and take a big hit or to try to hang on and keep scrabbling for a piece of the ever reducing pie.

I think IS is a bit of a thorn in the side of Getty, and the more other content they can put there (and pay non - exclusive royalty rates) as well as moving IS content upstream and downstream (and pay not exclusive royalty rates and no RC) the better as far as they are concerned. Their "new" communication is much like their "new" trust - not worth much.

As a Indy , and not a contributor on IS ( for hundreds of reasons ) the plunge of he agency is a big +. I believe the loyal buyers from IS are starting to realize that out there are similar agencies offering same  image quality at more reasonable prices.

Illustration - General / Re: Shutterstock terminated my account
« on: December 27, 2012, 16:35 »
If you don't show us the work we can't comment. It could be that the work is a cartoon animal, for example, and the watermarked image a photo of that animial that has no resemblance to the illustration, used just for general anatomical reference.
Without actual links, how are we supposed to know?

Alamy.com / Re: Why do people buy from Alamy?
« on: December 18, 2012, 07:00 »
Sorry if this question should be in the newbie section, but why do people buy images from Alamy. I mean the prices are a lot higher than in microstock, right? What extra do they get out of buying from Alamy?

Rights managed .... exclusive rights to use the image for specific purposes....

224
I did the math again, this time taking into account that 1credit may equal 1euro on checkout.

I was quite surprised!

Someone gets a 1 credit picture, in dollars for the cheapest $0.74 credit
Europe registered contributor gets 1euro for 1credit on checkout
Diamond photo exclusive contributor gets 63% of credits
With today's PayPal exchange rate 1euro is $1.23

In such scenario the picture cost $0.74 while the artist got $0.78 which means 105% of the actual picture price goes to the contributor.

+1 for the guy who created this royalty structure

yes, hypothetical... but how many diamonds exclusive are on FT??? exactly 0. Not even Yuri has reached diamond.

I'm once again called a TROLL in this forum by the crowd of do-gooders shocked to realize iStock and the whole microstock industry entered a downward spiral that will soon leave you guys grilling burgers at McDonalds.

It's 3 or 4 yrs i'm pointing out that this would have been the obvious conclusion and that the only way out was to stick to RM but you guys were always so positive and full of hope like children with rosy glasses, sure to have found the new gold mine and that it would have last forever.

Now you're all pants down crying out about falling sales and all you can tell me is i'm a known troll and agent provocateur, banning me and telling me to F off.

Hahaha, you're just all patethic and you deserve to be scammed by Getty and their other cronies.
You reap what you sow and i'm the one having the last laugh.

Farewell.

F off.... ( your expected words/response).Micro will not disappear... and when the world economics will improve companies will be way more cautious with their marketing money. Way less designers are using now macro or RM compared with 6-8 years ago. the flow of fresh images  is normal/increasing... only the source has changed.

P.S. my sales are up up up  every month..... so..... i quote your expected words/response once again.

regards,

Nik
