Shutterstock.com / Re: Mass download
« on: March 09, 2014, 04:28 »
Someone or multiple people have been downloading my images like 25 per day!
The strange thing is it seems to be one person i think as they are mass downloading one particular model!

I normally sell like 6 images per day on ss and now its like 30.

Should i be concerned or report it to ss as possible problem?

It happened to me to many times.... but in my case the picture series haz 230+ images.... It tooked the buyer 10 days to download all the images... not only on SS also on Fotolia in a different period.

From my point of view... nothing unusual   ;D . Enjoy your sales....

P.S.  SS is THE ONLY agency that never refunds  ;)

So they can definitely afford to give us a raise ;)

They will give us a Bigstock commission structure when the shares will start to drop and the investors will put a lot of pressure on the SS management to squeeze more money.  ;).

B*stards.
I said often, and only earlier this afternoon by SM here that I was sure this was why they've been suppressing new files for so long; and so it has proved.
Sell files stupidly cheaply, just like SS, and don't even give us RCs.
B*stards.
Sadly, I'm busy until Friday, but then time to start working out which files will be deactivated before April begins.
Just furious.
If I wanted to sell for stupid prices, I'd be on SS.
B*stards. (Did I say that?)

stupid prices??? agree.... BUT don't forget the volume... the big majority are reporting SS as the biggest earner.

At the end they are not so ''stupid''  ;)

54
Let's just imagine, for fun's sake, that the thing described in the subject happens. Also, all your OD's fall to the lowest price tier.

Would you quit?

I know a lot of contributors who report that around 70% of their earnings are from shutterstock. It's easy to have integrity when a small agency screws you over. If they account for 3% of your income, who cares, you have principles!

Is it the same story when the best earner does it?

EDIT: I don't understand why the downvotes. Is it wrong to ask a question like this? Some things I'll never understand.

This scenario is highly unlikely..... the Bigstock level structure is seriously possible. That way the big contributors will be untouched and the rest.... the big majority screwed. I believe the formula in which 80% of the income came from 20% of the business  applies to SS also.

I just got $67 under "single and other downloads".  Is that where ELs show up, or are they "enhanced downloads"?

You are '' OPT IN '' for sensitive use license ???

Newbie Discussion / Re: Fotolia and lesson to be learnt.
« on: February 06, 2014, 04:54 »
Well Fotolia seems to live up to its poor reports.

I thought I would upload a few images to see how they got on with Fotolia as some people on here seem to think they were ok.
Despite all these image already being accepted at numerous other ms sites and stock sites like Alamy they failed them all through totally unfounded and stupid reasons.

So glad I only bothered uploading a few images.

I will now be deleting my account and concentrate on the proper microstock sites where reviewers do know what their doing.

Fotolia is my secon earner after SS. the revenue there is around 2.5 time more than my 3rd witch is DT.
From my point of view no complains regarding FT.

Regards,
Nik

I have spent 3 days  uploading 127 images after RAW processing, PS CS6  and cropping etc.I assure you it was a slow task as I am meticulous in what I am doing.

I used to do the same thing and submit 80+ pictures at a time per week and get random rejections. Now I submit batches of 20+ every few days. This way, if something get rejected for weird reason I can find the image much easier and fix the issue. Most whole batch rejections are invalid though.

Same thing here...

Let's see some of the rejected images for us to help you.

I am over 90% accepted images this month thus don't feel that SS is being too harsh.

Shutterstock.com / Re: rejection for illustration tag
« on: January 17, 2014, 03:15 »
Hello. I had some images rejected with the message "In order for this to be reviewed correctly, resubmit & tag as illustration ?? http://shutr.bz/16yi5FM"
They are some wooden textures, composites, but not vectors. I don't make vectors and I don't know how to tag them in the category "illustration", as I don't find it. Please help. Thanks.

fair enough.... resubmit as illustration. I have images ( photo + illustration combined ... no vector) and always submit them as illustrations

Unless the next camera is 576 megapixels I wont upgrade. For me anything less then the resolution of the human eye is not going to cut it.

And yes, someone already created a gigapixel image, lol

General Stock Discussion / Re: Working with models - please help
« on: January 13, 2014, 05:02 »
In some instances you do a TFCD shoot - trade the model for her time by providing him/her with images for their portfolio.  Model is free in that instance...you can also ask the model to do their own makeup.  Studio space/outdoor space with permits is out of your pocket.  This is the least expensive way to get by.
Agreed. In fact 99% of my port consists of models and I've never paid them a dime. Every "model-wanna-be" needs a port. Every actor/actress/media person needs a port. Every makeup/hair stylist needs a port, etc.

Make some business cards and place them at schools/businesses where these types of people hang/work/or go to school.

If you shoot outdoors, there's no studio fees/costs. Just make sure you get signed releases and a simple contract detailing the terms of the "exchange" - that you have the right to sell the images.

good luck!

You will be surprised how many beautiful girls want professional pictures for free.

Don't upgrade yet. Get lenses.

18-55 is crap.
50 is okay.
get 100 macro it's sharp on the cheap up close. Also get a tripod then you're good to go.

100 mm f 2,8 ( non L ) is a very good lens. I use that lens very often.

So, Sean, is it living up to its billing so far?

11 sub sales yesterday, don't know if that is good or bad.  I like the map interface on the home page for sales.  Not crazy about using description meta as the title because I have to retype all my titles.  The model release manager would be more useful if you could do multiple releases for people.  I have to add the date of the release to the name to tell the difference.

You only need one release per person for all images of that person. 11 subs on a new portfolio of 200 images is ok. It needs time to settle and get traction.  Soon ODDs, ELs and SODs will come in and then your income will increase nicely over the year. Roughly you get one EL on every 500 DLs, thats seems to a reliable average.

Most of my releases are for a specific date.  I would think they would want the right one attached, no?  That would make it easier if they didn't.

You need only one release per person.... they didn't care when or at what specific photo shoot was signed.

If you want the best possible on a budget get a full frame sensor used or refurbished Canon 5D Mark II. The 50mm is good, the 18-55 is crap.

Disagree... i still use a crop sensor ( 7D ) but with high end lenses for some studio work. the results are very sharp images.

@ Saul12

For the start i recommend to keep your EOS 700D (T5i) and make an effort for one or two L lenses....  then when you start making some money or your microstock future looks brighter go to FF .

I regularly shoot with a 7D, and definitely need noise reduction. The best choice in my case is Topaz Denoise ( PS plugin )
