iStockPhoto.com / Re: For Indies who pulled ports from Istock...
« on: January 06, 2012, 06:00 »
The only think that will make IS to change their politics is that say half of best selling photographers ex. or non ex. ( including Yuri, and others big indies ) will poll their ports out of there. Personally i don't think they will do that.... money is more important (regardless the sum) than commissions cuts or other nasty thinks.

The ''law'' that 20% of the contributors bring 80% of the income is applying even to IS.

:o now i realize than carefully adjusting the camera settings was very wrong and time consuming  ;) i will never be a pro. if i will continue. loooool  ;D :D

good clip MOM. :)));... Jesus....

« on: January 06, 2012, 00:59 »
At a time should begin to be more selective... maybe your pictures reached a hardcore reviewer.

531
Nop.., no mail received by me ( not even in spam). so where we can see the new commissions ?

123RF / 100, 200, 300 MB sales
« on: January 03, 2012, 05:01 »
I wonder how many contributors sell 100, 200 or 300 MB files on 123RF? How frequently are those type of sales??

500+ files on Canstock and only one sale in two months . in my opinion a waste of time.... $100/ year is a target to aim regarding CS.... :))

536
So yesterday on my 5th attempt i finally got in.

Got 9 out of 10 pics selected  ;D

Thanks guys/girls for the help!!!

Congratulations.... :)
reading this topic i realize i was somehow lucky. i got accepted two months ago at my first attempt with 9/10. A little tip for SS: submit all your images in the shortest time possible. new contributors have some sort of better placement in search engine for a month or so.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Your plans, for 2012 ?
« on: December 21, 2011, 01:20 »
For 2012 i plan to change my DSLR (3 years is enough ) and open my personal studio.

I'm in the gold level on Istockphoto (probably not after this month) and I make about $0.42 to something like $7.8 an image sale, but more like at least $3.5 a sale on average.  Shutterstock only pays like $0.25 to $0.38 a sale.  I know that the on-demand images pay more, but I don't know if they are anywhere as popular as the subscription sales.  It would take more than 10 times the sales that I have on Istockphoto for Shutterstock to match my exclusive Istockphoto sales, and I doubt even half of that is possible.  Is selling full size images for even $0.38 a sale a good thing?  I know there are other websites like Dreamstime that pay more (and especially in royalty rates) but for the photography I do, it doesn't look like Dreamstime has anywhere the level of sales volume compared to IS or SS.

I had the same thoughts when i was exclusive on DT. i had regular $4-5 sales and thought that i must have 10-15 sales to match one exclusive sale.... believe me is not like that. Now from SS i earn more than double that i was making on DT. i will never go exclusive whit one agency ever (  with the exception: if SS launches a exclusivity program).

Shutterstock.com / Re: What does it actually take to be popular?
« on: December 14, 2011, 04:48 »
I believe that a huge number of buyers search using '' Sort By: new'' option. always something new (concept, quality etc. ) is more welcomed.

Sorry if this has been posted already. Here's the email:

"Change in Commission Structure for 123RF.com Contributors

We will be changing our Contributors commission structure effective January 1, 2012.

Heres what you need to know:

All existing contributors shall continue to enjoy the current 50% nett commission share ONLY IF they fulfill ALL of the following criteria.:
Have registered with 123RF.com before January 1, 2012.
Have at least 150 accepted images in their respective portfolios by January 1, 2012.
Have had a minimum of 10 paid downloads by January 1, 2012.
All new contributors who start submitting images to 123RF.com AFTER January 1, 2012 OR do not meet all the criteria above shall be enrolled under the new commission structure.

More details on the new commission structure shall be announced closer to the implementation date.

In the light of the criteria above:

We urge you to continue uploading your images to 123RF.com if you havent already met all of the criteria above.

minimum 10 paid downloads means only credit sales or all sales (including subs)?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Cutting off their nose
« on: December 07, 2011, 03:05 »
It's now well over a year since I've been banned from iStock forums for telling uncomfortable truths.

However, as they're so buggy, from time to time, I'm able to post.

So about a month ago, I posted about two bugs. These posts were deleted, and in each case, a day or two later, the bugs were reported again. In the last couple of days, I posted a request for a keyword (there would be no point in me uploading a photo without that keyword, as it already has four unrelated DAs in other languages) and a note of a necessary - and constantly repeating - batch wiki.

I'm just uploading an image, and noticed a mistake (mis-spelling) in a DA of an important keyword. I was just about to post a note in the keywording forum about it when I noticed that my two most recent posts have also been deleted.

What on earth is the point of that?
Why do I even bother?

From my point of view drop exclusivity..... IS is not even close what once was.

544
i can't see how the rise of SS and the fall of IS are good news.

Considering the paranoic rejections from IS i believe is a very good news.... at least in my personal case.

545
i can't see how the rise of SS and the fall of IS are good news.

this trend is only showing that buyers are more and more into finding the cheapest price and the cheapest deals.

if the real inflation rate in the western countries is 5-10% how this model can remain sustainable if prices keep going down and your files are getting diluted (and devalued !) in the millions of new photos uploaded each months ?

even feeding the beast, the point of non-return will soon be reached.

either prices go way up or producing stock will cost more than what it earns in all agencies combined.

I believe the future of microstock is quality; Yes today many people contribute, but very soon we will start to see massive rejection from all agencies and the reason will be quality or concept ...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Moving on from IS exclusive
« on: December 05, 2011, 01:34 »
I was faced with the same dilemma : dropping exclusivity from DT. I am glad that i make the move; my income dropped with only $20 and SS has become my 1st earner.

So, from my point o view it is worth....

548
After my first month as independent photographer:

SS --------- 51%
DT --------- 44%
123RF ----- 4%
FT---------- 2%
CanStock -- 0%

After joining FT and 123RF, what can i say .... 123RF is selling twice as much as FT; for me is way, way ahead of FT.
