Overall one word : disaster

The worst month of the year.....  :( :-[

Much worse even compared with August.... disaster for an October witch supposed to be one of the best month of the year.

Everything started very encouraging on all agencies until 15th of the month. From than on sales/earnings dropped with about 200%( ON ALL AGENCIES EXCEPT FOTOLIA)

The single site that had constant sales was FT. For the rest.. SS ,DT ,123RF CAN,DP, the pattern was the same very good sales until 15th of Oct. and after that date sales dropped very hard.

Hope Nov. will make me happier.

Nope Fotolia is not dying .... constant sales for me.... :D, and from my point of view FT is my 2nd earner after SS. Considering that i don't contribute on IS, the pool is correct.

Ok..... September was a fantastic month.....  8) 8) 8)

SS - $30 short to become my new BME, lots of EL's and OD's  ;D
FT - slightly under average  :(
DT - Very, very good month ,my best month since I quit exclusivity there ( nov. 2011)  ;D
123RF - under average  :(
Canstock - good month
DP - average
Alamy - one average sale
FAA - my first sale  ;D
Bigstock - dead

The pie slices:

SS - 60%
DT - 15%
FT - 9%
Canstock - 4%
DP - 1%
Alamy - 5%
FAA - 5%

I believe Mr. Oringer know what is doing... he still control 45% of the shares, but the other 55% are so diluted among many investors that is nearly impossible to group all the other share holders to make 51%. Orenger need only 5% +1 to maintain the control, witch is very easy.
The nearly impossible seems to happen quite often, especially if the share price falls and someone makes the investors a good offer.

On the other side the stock value of SS (2.2 billion) is way overstated... for a company that produce around 25 million/year NET INCOME.
I hope the agency continue to grow... ( September was only $30 short to become my new BME).

If you look at how much the hedge funds paid for Getty, I think he could of easily made as much or more selling SS privately as he has from selling shares.

Yes but that was in early 2008  ;D. back than even small house was 3-4 time more expensive than the actual value....

With over 144 million (+ others income and previous sold shares) CASH, in his pockets Oringer will not give a f*** what will become of SS.  ;)
I think he could of sold out for a lot more.  So hopefully he's one of the few people that's more interested in the business than the money.

If he was more interested in the business than the money.... maybe better not trade SS on the stock; or better trade only a small part of the shares ( to get a quickly a large sum of money) and retain the 50% + 1 of the company.

If Origer wanted to sell SS before the stock listing definitely would not have earned that much money....  ;)

Because you are competing with yourself, based on price and supporting the parasites that drive down prices, and pay you almost nothing. This dilutes the sales and makes the best agencies weaker. That, and I feel that for the returns, it's a waste of time and energy. Take the best earners, if your personal high point is ten, then fine, you like working long hours for $100 a year? Better might be, four, that's a nice diverse group, with a proven track record. {opinion}

But if you want numbers, add the five top agencies on the right and then the next 16 (all the rest that have numbers) and see how much the  bottom 16 earn, added together.

Lets see bottom 16 = 57. Hey look, SS does that by themselves? Top five = 146 is almost triple.  HOLY COW!

So why did you want to work and upload to the top 21 sites?

That and with less sites, you might have better control over who's selling what and where things are being partnered from.

Personally? Top Two and Alamy because of what Alamy handles in the way of Editorial. But some people are on 50 sites and quite happy.

Hey guys,
what is the downside of uploading to 20 sites instead of just uploading to the top tiers?

If your future is anything like my present at Shutterstock, then you may want to prepare for it. I'm just saying.

My future is I keep getting more money and more downloads every year from SS. What's wrong with that?

Watch out for the SSTK shares crash (they can't grow forever... at this rate at some point they will crash)  :-\ just saying...

When this bubble bursts - watch out.

+1

I believe this ''game'' is pyramidal... the shares can't rise forever.... the bubble will burst and the investors will want their money.
than what ? ? ?

Probably the typical cycle of technology companies after an IPO.   Once the irrational exuberance dissipates, first-round investors start applying the pressure to top execs, who are quite receptive because they're highly leveraged themselves.  Both these groups have one goal - get the stock price back to what they think it should be, which unfortunately might be an unrealistically high number.   Thumbscrews are fitted to the employees, and every rock is overturned in search of ways to boost profits in the short run.  That's where we come in :-)

As much as I wish to contradict you........ but you are right :( :(......than the Bigstock structure will come in.

What is you opinion on this topic. It doesn-t matter if you have a big team, small team or it's only you, the photographer.

I only upload on the sites that sells; 6 microstock agencies and Alamy. The rest is not worth my effort.... I prefer to shoot and pp the files in that time.

I personally use Yuri's MR ( from his site) and there is no exception regarding sensitive use there... yet I'm OPT OUT for sensitive use to avoid legal problems in the future. An opt in/out per image on SS will be extraordinarily.

91
1/16000 sec shutter speed.... that's impressing.... compared with EOS M 1/4000 s

Full HD movie at 60 fps and VGA at 400 fps

Impressive.....

Off Topic / Re: Woman sues Getty after photo appears in HIV ad
« on: September 20, 2013, 04:17 »
Exactly, it's the AD Agency to blame here.

And in any case the girl could sue anyways if she wanted, there are so many legal loopholes in these cases as people watching the advertisement could think she is HIV+ ... and this i don't think is fully covered on the MR she signed, if she ever signed a MR at all.

She did not sign any MR... the image was sold by Getty as editorial...

PS ... i don't understand why Getty accepted that type of image as editorial  ::) ... Submit an identical image on any micro agency as editorial, and the rejection reason will be: Please provide a MR and resubmit as Royalty free.

No MR....  :o

That's why I'm OPT OUT for sensitive use on SS; despite the fact i have signed MR for all my images with people... i really don't want to complicate my life.

General Stock Discussion / Re: August Sales
« on: September 03, 2013, 15:01 »

Been non exclusive (from DT) for a couple of years now, but interesting to see they are still 50% of my revenue. Given that I dropped earnings by about 50% when I left, I can't see it is an obvious choice, one way or the other :)  Certainly not as obvious a choice as some people like to make out!  That said, I basically sat flat for a year as DT trailed off and the other sites picked up the slack in revenue.  But now, starting to see lots of growth again as I hit higher royalty rates on those sites - but the fact that DT remains at 50% means it is growing for me too!

Interesting....when i dropped exclusivity from DT my revenue dropped at 1/3 from what used to be, and never recovered; despite the fact that my portfolio is now increased by 250%.... SS filled the gap from the first month. Congrats for your success there.

I noticed Pentax has launched the k-5II and k-5IIs.
What i remarked mostly is the impressive high ISO performance. In my opinion almost on pair or with the FF bodies from Nikon and Canon (D800 and 5D3) until ISO 6400 and over current APS-C sensors from Nikon and Canon.
