Panthermedia.net / Re: What about the Panther ?
« on: March 28, 2008, 19:05 »
Yeah, it is kind of slow as far as reviewing is concerned.
I joined this month, have now 8 images there, 4 got reviewer's recommendation, but no sales yet. I had a better start with another midstock German site, Shotshop - with only two files - first sale after a week.

But from what I read in a German stock forum, this site does work quite nicely, and some people report regular earnings - so I will definitely keep on uploading there.

I noticed that their search engine gives different results depending on the language of the interface. I had one picture of a German city that I uploaded with English keywords, and it appears in search results ONLY if the language is set to English, although I translated later the keywords into German. This file will just not be found if the buyer is using German interface. I will contact support about that, because this is the picture that got a sale on Shotshop after 1 week of being online.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Canon 5D price crash?
« on: March 27, 2008, 22:27 »
I am interested in a wider auto-bracketing range for HDR work.
5D has only 4EV, whereas 1D has 18EV maximum  range with autobracketing.
The new Nikons are better than 5D in that respect, with 8EV.

But if the successor to 5D brings an improvement there, plus weather sealing plus dust cleaning, I think I am going to start saving for that camera.

Panthermedia.net / Re: Acceptance rate at Panthermedia
« on: March 27, 2008, 20:42 »
I've been getting a lot of rejections on Panthermedia.  They are more strict on my images than even Dreamstime or Fotolia, which is ridiculous.

I find Fotolia ridiculous, they started to reject my images that have been accepted by SS, IS, and DT. Maybe FT doesnt want outdoor pics, and that's all I do..., but when they list multiple rejection reasons (noise, out of focus, lighting, etc. etc.) for images accepted by the major sites, I find it disrespectful. The images might not be brilliant, but surely they are not so bad. I gave up on uploading to FT.

As for Panther, please take a look at their list of lesser wanted subjects:
http://www.panthermedia.net/index.php?page=cms%2Fpages%2Fdisplay2.php&cms_id=209&blanc=on

It might be wise to stay away from those subjects, to improve the acceptance rate.
However, the say they don't need photos of landmarks, but all of the pics that I uploaded there were landmark photos, and they were accepted. I just tried to make them stand out from the rest, uploaded mainly HDRs  or nightshots.

BTW, graficallyminded, thank you for your comment on Mostphotos, actually that pic was also accepted by Panther.

I think Panther does have some potential, their price structure is decent, much better than the micros, so just a couple of sales means some nice income. I read also a German micro forum where some members report regular earnings from PM.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Nature that sells
« on: March 27, 2008, 19:12 »
Take a look at this portfolio - some pretty high selling nature stuff!!

nice portfolio

It is a pity that Shutterstock doesn't reveal the number of downloads.
It takes more than 90 SS downloads (0.25$) to reach the value of 1 sale at a site like Shotshop (15 ). Which one is easier? I am trying to figure it out.
I was accepted by Shutterstock last week, the best-selling image of my initial 10 gets roughly 1 download per day, I wonder how long it will last...

I have a rather microscopic port there, 6 images only, all cityscapes (joined PM this month).
Acceptance rate: 100%, 3 pics got reviewer's recommendation.
Sales: none so far

How about when we refer people to a site we don't put in our referral link ...

I think it is a bit rude actually.

As far as I can tell Shotshop doesn't have a referral program.
The site seems quite promising, I uploaded two pictures this month, and yesterday, after being just 1 week online, one of them was sold and 15 EUR will be transferred to my account at the end of March.

The same picture was rejected by digitalstock.de. I have a slightly bigger port on Panthermedia, but no sales there yet (joined them also this month).

One thing about shotshop: they have only a German version, and categorization is done in several steps, so those contributors who know German have an advantage.

Computer Hardware / Re: How to speed up Photosohop
« on: March 27, 2008, 18:24 »
I would recommend getting more RAM.
CPU is secondary as far as PS is concerned.
Graphic Card is not that important for PS.
I assume you run XP, because on Vista Photoshop might really suck with 1GB RAM .
