I just upgraded from a 16mp D7000 to a 24mp D7100 so I was a bit disappointed to read this thread.
I decided to do a test and resubmitted a picture taken at 24mp which  was rejected for focus issues. After downsizing, it was accepted in Shutterstock. (I also did some reprocessing of colors and cropping, but that was not the issue for refusal)
The original picture accepted at fotolia but not at SS

and the picture accepted at SS after downsizing

I will do some more test in future with rejected pictures for focus issues.

I'm aware of the problem. Living in Belgium it's not easy to start any webshop that's selling worldwide.
Once, Cascoly started a service that gave me some hope "Symbiostock Co-operative Project" http://symbiostock-network.com/  but this solution as it is designed will not be of any help in the EU.
Besides it is quit silent around the project for the last couple of months.

At this moment I've setup my site without any direct sale but only as a window on my work and with a link where it is available (thanks to the plugin from Ajotte).  At least my pictures are out there on display in a quite "professional" way thanks to Symbiostock. We'll see what comes next. Any hint is welcome

I've installed the plugin and tested it on my symbiostock site. This works beautifull. The plugin gives you an extra button in your "edit post" window which takes you to a dialog to search and BUY a picture.
Can't be easier. Must write a little blog article about it this weekend.

And the blog is http://7horses.eu/wp/blog/dreamstime-make-inserting-pictures-blog-post-lot-easier/

"Oops! That page cant be found.

It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try one of the links below or a search?"

'getty-crap-us' is what you chose to name it?  Maybe try something a bit more professional sounding?

rephrased it

I'm sure we will see sooner then later something like this.
"Getty images embedded free image player makes thousands of websites vulnerable to security breaks due to error in his player code"

Leo,

I don't know you, but seen what work you have accomplished you surely must have the heart at the best side. I see you are a linux user probably long-time  fan of open source and  as a result of a better world.

The task you are given  yourself in creating a open software suite to help artists  to sell their work is a though one. Main reason for this is that your audience are mostly people  oriented towards making profit some of them with a large ego. Most of them probably have no clue what open source is all about. This surely can be a reason to lose some motivation.

Take some distance from your project for a while and think over what are your targets. Maybe take a look at other open source projects how they are keeping motivated and try to find some partners with the same goal.

Wish you all the best of luck and don't forget to have some fun.

Dirk

Maybe this could be a solution for the legal problems I'm facing now to start selling directly from my site as Belgian citizen.

42
SOLVED for now

I've changed in symbiostock-xtra.php

define('PLR_WP_HOME_URL', home_url() ); // instead of  get_site_url()
to
define('PLR_WP_HOME_URL', 'http://7horses.eu/wp/blog/');

just have to remember this when upgrading.

43
I have a link structure http://7horses.eu/wp/blog/image/image_name/ and I understood this is a problem (syxtra's href link to images doesn't work)  but I don't know how to change it without breaking my site. Any hints what I can do ?  I deactivated syxtra for now.

44
Is there a standard place where to look to see info on updates. I get the upgrade info from wordpress like now from 2.9.9 to 3.0
Where can I find more info on this upgrade? I checked the symbiostock.org site but probably I don't know where to look.

In Dutch there is one proverb (don't know if it exits in English but translated it would be)   'Don't run before you can go'

As I see it, the "symbiostock world" is missing a lot of opportunities due to a lack of sound fundamentals.
First of all  symbiostock should become a real open source project and be run like all major open source project  with the right development tools and project management. This can only be achieved by attracting more people.

Lots of photographers/designers/artists are looking for a viable solution to display their work (and by nature real artists prefer an open  solution). Symbiostock has this build in.  Make this the core of the "software suite " and probally many will become interested to start using it. Sooner or later, some will even join to build extra plugins (eg create a picasa or lightroom export to symsite plugin - connect to pod sites - social media plugin - ...). This is the real power of open source it easily can become 'crowd source'.

Other funtions like networking, online shop, paypal, pictureengine, ... could all be provided as add-on modules and many more can be build by the community  like vat, invoicing, accountancy, payment providers, .... and probably infinitely  more .....

This way the symbiostock environment could become a standard for all photographers, designers,... to build their site and  grow their business. The software environment can grow step by step this way.

So make the "software suite" more modular and promote it to all photographers/designers to build their site is a first step. Build a real project management environment so more people can start to work on "modules" or contribute to the "core" functions is the next.

This is only a personal view,  to give some extra thoughts to the 'owners' of the project.
Keep up the good work and many thanks for your achievement till now.

Yes, thank you for pointing that out, I mean indeed only sell with "editorial usage only"  (I'm uploading these type of files to Alamy as RM now, that's why I was a bit confused). When a buyer uses "unreleased" content as commercial that's indeed his responsibility.

Did you mean something else? SS and IS (and many other Microstock sites) Editorial are RF, but are Editorial Usage only. Another problem is that some people have found Editorial images used commercially after being downloaded from an agency with the correct limitations.

I didn't see it, but another opinion is the final user is responsible for all legal decisions, not the agency and not the photographer.

Pictures of the atomium can not be used as RF see more info on their site http://atomium.be/AuthorsRights.aspx?lang=en

47
I would remove them from RF, just to avoid any risk of legal trouble and having to search for a lawyer. I also don't want people that eventually bought my pictures having troubles too.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Photographer Websites
« on: November 29, 2013, 05:45 »
I'm building my new site using wordpress, the symbiostock theme and the ajt stock plugin. Very basic for the moment  but it can be extended and styled as you like.  preview link 7horses.eu

50
I started my symbiostock site but as I can't do any direct saling I'm using the ajt-stockplugin for now to point the visitor to the stocksites where my work is available.

To start direct sales from my country (Belgium) two things are missing.

1. I'm full time employed now and I'm not registered as a business. To be registered as a business has a certain yearly cost and I'm not sure my potential sales would cover this having still a small portfolio.

2. The symbiostock theme  needs  some extra functionality for European law.
- Registration of country and vat number in the registration process of client.
- Possibility to add vat to invoiced amount for European customers that don't have vat number.

As for now I'm quit happy with the symbiostock theme to show my portfolio and I'm in the process of uploading my pictures. I'm of course missing the added value of the network but time will tell how to go from here.
