General Stock Discussion / Easiest submission system
« on: June 02, 2009, 03:04 »
I see lately that some agencies are trying hard to simplify their submission system. I guess we all appreciate their effort. We see Zymmetrical, Cutcaster, Canstockphoto and Bigstockphoto trying to ease our upload and submission process by removing categories, or guessing them from IPTC data, making submission page more convenient, with easier model releases attaching system etc...

Few main people from agencies above even asked me which site has easiest upload system because they are really trying to make our lives easier. But again, I see no real improvements.
I don't know for you, but from my experience, by far the best submissions page has Yaymicro. I don't have any sales there, and the only thing that keeps me uploading is their upload system.
If one have IPTC data ready, submitting images needs only few seconds. Model releases, and all image data is editable in the place, with no opening new pages, without checking any checkboxes, and without looking into different places on the screen to see if everything is OK with all data.

I am sorry I don't have any image uploaded right now to post some screen shots (and I don't know if I am aloud to do this), but I would like to show how it looks like to people who don't have account on Yaymicro.

What are your experiences?

iStockPhoto.com / 3 new referrals on IS today
« on: May 24, 2009, 07:17 »
I have total of 21 referrals on IS. 3 of them signed up today. Maybe we all should bring new buyers instead of talking about low sales. I wish we all could have at least 10 referrals..

« on: April 23, 2009, 12:10 »
I can't open Cutcaster last two days. I can't even ping it in CMD, or open it using IP address instead of www.cutcaster.com. My friend from USA is opening it normally. Does anyone else have the same problem?

iStockPhoto.com / Overfiltering...I think don't understand it
« on: April 20, 2009, 05:38 »
Hi everybody,
I couldn't help myself, I had to write it here. It's about IS rejection for overfiltering. First I have to say I don't have this rejection often because until now I have learned that I shouldn't alter my photos too much for IS because "buyers like raw photos" to edit them as they want to.
One of my best sellers on IS is this sunset. It is hardly toucher with few soft light layers because I was afraid it will be rejected due to overfiltering.

But yesterday I typed "sunset sea" in IS search box and I found these beautiful images with thousands of downloads. I want to say that I love these images, and I am not addressing these photographers. I think these images are beautiful. Obviously buyers agree with me. I would like if IS could accept similar images that I have because obviously buyers love them no matter they are overfiltered.

I repeat again, I think these photographers did great job. I just wanna ask why IS doesn't accept images like these any more...at least doesn't accept my images that are even slightly more saturated.

iStockPhoto.com / Audio exclusivity and other RM sites
« on: April 11, 2009, 07:27 »
Hi all,
I am thinking about going exclusive for audio content on IS but I have an account on PumpAudio, which is an agency for RM audio content. I have read part of agreement on IS which says I can upload RM audio content to other sites, but my RF files should be exclusively on IS. Can someone tell me if I'm right? Also, I would like to know, how can I stop being exclusive for IS if I need to.
Thank you!

I don't know why some agencies count in approval rate when we delete our own photo. It's not reviewed and rejected photo to count it in approval rate.
I sometimes forget to apply MR, or after uploading I notice that I submitted wrong photo, or even my ftp client send the same photo several times due to some error..
This is especially a problem at agencies that doesn't allow to change photo info after submitting (Bigstockphoto and Fotolia)
What do you think?

CanStockPhoto.com / WOOOO! One image earned me $26,76
« on: March 26, 2009, 04:00 »
I just sold one image for $26.76. The sweetest thing is this image was rejected from some major sites for overfiltering. Actually, this is not a real photo. It's a simulation of oil painting made on a computer from my photograph.

Do you remember my image of a dog and a cat making love?

This image was accepted by some agencies, and rejected from some other agencies. The lighting is poor...it was very bright day, and snow reflects the light, and dog was black....so, honestly, the technical quality of the photo is....poor. But again, I think this image has strong concept. Is there better example of love between creatures that should hate each other? By my opinion this is a good example of power of love...or passion, or what ever. Natural enemies making love..
But again, this image was rejected mostly because of low commercial value.

Please tell me your opinion. Do you think reviewers are actually disgusted by the scene, or maybe this image is so unusual and rare, so reviewers can't decide what to do and choose to reject it, or you also think this image doesn't have commercial value.
I agree the composition is not very good, but it lasted only for a second, and I couldn't really think about the angle ;D

I appreciate your opinion :)

Print on Demand Forum / Sold one business card again! :D
« on: January 06, 2009, 09:37 »
Hey guys, with only 28 business cards in my portfolio, I already have 2 sales in 2 months! I earned 10$ this way. Right now for me, printbusinesscards.com are better seller for me than half microstock sites I'm in!

Guys, I am accepted as audio contributor today. But I have problems with illustrations. Can someone help me? Can someone give me quick guidelines what I can use in my illustrations and what I can't? For example, can I use svg filters like gaussian blur for example if opacity of my layer is 100% etc.. I know I can't use transparency, but what I can use to simulate it? Maybe some gradient to match wanted colors to simulate transparency. Can someone give me some link wher eI can read it? Something more explanatory than "quick guidelines" from IS.
Thank you in advance!

iStockPhoto.com / Audio artifacting
« on: December 18, 2008, 12:23 »
I am so happy to announce that, with little more luck I will become an audio contributor on IS. 2 of 3 of my audio samples are accepted, and one is rejected. Can you guess why? Ohhh, I'm sure you can. Here it goes: "The audio file you have uploaded contains, clipping or distortion artifacts"
;D I thought I will get away from artifacts, but seems that they follow me everywhere  :D
Anyway, I'm so happy I will become an audio contributor. Music is my first love. Photography was second...and now I can have both of them ;)

General Stock Discussion / How to become a reviewer?
« on: December 16, 2008, 04:02 »
I am just curious, what is necessary for one person to become a reviewer? Are there some big differences from agency to agency, or there are some universal qualifications for that job and the rest depends on agency?

Dreamstime.com / Scrambled file
« on: December 12, 2008, 08:05 »
Today I got the same rejection on DT for the same file. Rejection was:"We are sorry but due to the hardware problems we have experienced this image is scrambled and could not be salvaged. Please reupload it. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused. "

This is the image

http://www.shutterstock.com/pic.mhtml?id=21482824

I hope "scrambled file" doesn't mean "these flowers are not made of clean straight lines". Does someone has the same experience? I never had such rejection, not once. And this time I had it two times for the same file

I really like keywording system on Alamy, and I like that their search engine won't show you zillion of images of the same author and the same subject from different angles. It will show you only one image of one author, but it will also show you number of similar images of the same author, so if you like what you see, you can click on that authors name and see the rest of images. If I have red grapes in a basket on the ground, why would I need more keywords that red, grapes, basket, ground...and maybe few more keywords added. If designer knows what he want's I am sure he will not search for grapes using: " mediterannean, france, healthy, organic, soft, refreshing" etc etc. Even if it is refreshing and juicy and healthy and so on, I think I wouldn't search for grapes using this words.
I really think 10-15 words are enough for every image to be found, and we would be free of spamming. Am I right or not? What do you think? Maybe I'm making a mistake
