Dreamstime.com / Re: Advise on DT Please beefore I upload to them.
« on: December 15, 2008, 15:21 »
We must upload to a different site :)
None of our images are saturated.  None of our images are "Photoshopped".
We have nature, animals, isolated, people, etc all up there.
They take what I send them, as long as it is clean.
I have several series up with several images per series. I also have vector illustrations there.  My vector acceptance is 100%

Just send them the best of what you have, then take it from there.  You will see, as you start to upload, what types of images they like, and what they don't like.

Cameras / Lenses / Digital Back for Medium Format?
« on: November 20, 2008, 15:03 »
We own a Zenza Bronica SQ-A medium format camera, and was wondering if anyone had any information on a digital back for it.

We found Hasselblad lists one, but haven't found one for this camera.  Does anyone have any ideas? Know of an adapter?

Thanks for your help!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Your best agencies -Poll-
« on: November 15, 2008, 13:49 »
Ours being the 100th vote, I'm chiming in...
SS is our #1
DT is a VERY close 2nd
StockXpert has shown such an improvement, even with subs, so it came in at 3rd

IS.. well, if we are lucky, we get two or three sales a month, so they are our #8

If we had to choose a site to go exclusive with, it would be DT, hands down.

Alamy has a great forum.  On a real quick search, I found this, you might wanna read thru it... will answer the questions you'll ask after you do something and it's not right yet :D

Do a search thru their forums, they're full of good stuff :)

Also did a very specific search for a few of my images and had zero hits.

I like the cubes, but would like it to be more maplike, and be able to grab the page and pull it around from there.

Dreamstime.com / Re: MR Question
« on: November 10, 2008, 00:28 »
Well, I might list the address like this:
Model Name, P.O.Box 1234, (155 Main St *Physical address of post office that handles the mail for this PO box* ) City State Zip+4.
Putting the address of the post office will guarantee they will get a hold of it, and it will not go to dead letter.
Putting in just any phone number is false, and I would never do that. I've listed contact numbers in that field when no other was available, even if that number is to the general store. It's the contact number, it's how I'd have to get a hold of them.

Definitely contact them, they can help you figure out the whole mess.

@ Litifeta, I haven't seen you praise a site yet.  Are there any sites you do well at?

83
Hali,
Think about it like a bus pass.
There are some people that need to use it once in a while, so they pay the per ride usage.  There are others that use it all the time, so they make the up front expenditure and buy the pass for use for the month.
Subscription sales suck.  But they guarantee the buyer will actively use the site for the length of their subscription, especially when it is time sensitive, and not by number of downloads.
We have our images at Shutterstock.  We sell quantity there, so it makes the sub commission a little less painful.  Since we sell subs there, we opted in at all agencies.  I used to get real riled up over selling an XL image for .35, but it's all part of my bottom figure at the end of the month, and that's where I make my decisions.
I've dropped some sites that are real low performers, and the only sales were a once in a blue moon sub.  But if the dollars roll at a reasonable pace, then I let them ride.

I recommend you Pixmac (www.pixmac.com). It is new microstock agency. It provides interesting pictures from $0.5 and good earnings for photographers.

One month ago, they had zero images.  So either Fotolia gave them an instant zap of all of their images and stats, or this new company stole them.

I'm still waiting for a response from either company.

85
Thanks, yes, it seems like they are taking stats from fotolia.

Anyone have any success at getting their images off of this site?

I'm so tired of not being able to trust a site we sign up with.  We should be able to sign up and feel confident that we will be paid for our hard work.  And the sites should be so thrilled to have us as part of their team, they watch and make sure that we are all fairly paid.

We should not have to accidently find our images at some weird site, then figure out where . the images are coming from.  And they should make sure that whatever affiliate programs they set in place, that the correspond to the SAME guidelines we agreed to, and signed up at their site for.

Is that so much to ask?

86
This was easy for us to check.  We don't have a large sales volume at Fotolia.

We have a few pictures that have sales on them.
http://www.pixmac.com/picture/small-black-powder-pistol-angled/000005446216
http://www.pixmac.com/picture/physicians-workspace/000001773555
http://www.pixmac.com/picture/cds-with-jewel-cases/000001217557

I checked our Fotolia sales, and there are no sales there for these images.

I also have only 54 images listed on the site.  I have 582 at Fotolia.  Does that mean they only have those 54? Or are the rest floating around on the site with no photographer credit??  I'm checkin now....

Is there any way to see the buyer?  Sometimes I get the feeling active forumpeople always have a few sales in the beginning of new sites...

I am not active in the forum at all.  We just had a sale today, EU 2.50 for a Medium.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Tatoos
« on: October 29, 2008, 15:39 »
Interesting, I just read this to my husband, who has a tattoo, and who is part of our modeling crew.
He said his tattoo was fine to be released by just his signature on the model release, because the tattoo was his design, he created the drawing, the tattoo artist just inked it for him.
So, if the art is the original art created by the person who is getting the tattoo done, doesn't that just make it an expression of the model instead of the tattoo artist?
And what if the tattoo was a trademarked image? I'm thinking Woodstock or Snoopy or Mickey Mouse, but certainly not traced, because they are, say, smoking or drinking, etc.?  What would you have to do then? I see a mess of headaches if this gets picked down deep enough...
There are also a lot of generic tattoos out there. I'm thinking tribal art, lettering, etc.  How do you differentiate between original/needs artist signature, and generic?
We always understood the rule to be the tattoo would make the PERSON recognizable, so if there was a tattoo in the image, the person would need to be released.

Pixmac / Re: Pixmac reaches 1,000,000 images?!

Fotolia is closing all threads relating to this.

I wonder why...?

Pixmac / Re: Pixmac reaches 1,000,000 images?!

I have one illustration there in a huge size that is only available in FT, StockXpert and FP.  One other image is in FT and FP, but not in StockXpert.

I tried to find some photos that were rejected in FT but accepted in FP, but I couldn't - didn't search all, though. Not conclusive, as not all my images re in Pixmac.

Regards,
Adelaide

We don't have any images at FP, so it's gotta be Fotolia

Holy Hell! at the bottom of http://www.pixmac.com/termsandconditions

This website is owned and operated by Pixmac Ltd., Francouzsk 31, Prague , Czech Republic. Although you may access this website from other territories around the world; by accessing this website, you agree that its use, the use of any material contained on the website and the use of all services provided, will be governed by the laws of the Czech Republic, no matter how it may differ from the laws of the country your accessing this website from. You can denounce this agreement but only after sending written notice to Pixmac. Pixmac has 30 days from receipt of your written notice to remove your account. However, all uploaded photos will remain available on the Pixmac website for 1 year from when their upload expires.

Edit to add:  I checked a model image of ours.  It's listed as Artist: anonymous, and no model release.  (it's a self portrait image)

And does that paragraph mean that even if we petition to be removed, for the entire next year they will be collecting royalties on our images with no compensation to us?

I'm stunned.  Not that I should be, but I still am.

Oh no. Another mouth eating my share of cake.

Your comment just decreased your earnings by 1%. You make 50 more such comments and your income will drop by 50%. Helping a newbie is like a cuting the branch that you are sitting on. Hehe.

For each new photohrapher in the busines, there should be at least 3 new byers to maintain balance in universe.

We don't mind competition. We have plenty of it, and it just makes us work harder to tighten up our images.

Besides, if they got into SS on their first try, they must know something.  How many tries did it take you, Peter?

Grats! We made it in our 2nd try :)

I think you have to wait 24 hours before your images go live, that's pretty standard across all sites right now.

Just remember, Shutterstock is nicknamed The Beast. You gotta feed it often!  Best to submit small numbers of files several times a week, rather than one big upload every other week.

Good luck!

I've had over-the-top rejections, too.

You know, I probably wouldn't mind as much IF the resubmits didn't count as a new upload.

Well, time to upload my 15 so I can get another 2 online :D

StockXpert.com / Re: Any Photos.com Sales lately?
« on: October 17, 2008, 16:56 »
jsolie,

Check your account balance summary.  My sale went from a pay per download to a Jupiterunlimited subscription.  No change in money, just description. So, Hurrah, I Still only made .30!!

What I want to know is... For all those of you with extra money in your accounts, WHO DOES THAT MONEY REALLY BELONG TO, AND WILL IT EVER GET STRAIGHTENED OUT???

I'm not too hopeful, and at this point, I'm ready to pull out completely.  What a fiasco this became!

Try a photos.com pay per download on a vector file for $ .30

I'm very not impressed, and hope it gets fixed soon.

please e-mail us photos of each of your models holding the MR and
his/her ID.

Seems a bit extreme and unusual?

Hardly. From their end, the model signatures were stitched, so the potential that the photographer had falsified it up was there.  Proof is in the pudding, and since the models had to re-sign the documents, I don't see what the issue would be to have a snapshot of them signing it.  All they want is proof that you are NOT falsifying records.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: "submarine sandwich" keywording question
« on: October 16, 2008, 09:46 »
Thanks for the answers.

The thing about skipping words like submarine sandwich etc is that people actually use it in their searches - about 80% of my "sandwich" sales on DT have something like "turkey sub sandwich" "salami submarine" etc.  It makes sense to assume that similar keywords are used on istock.

Right now a bunch of photos shows up if you type submarine sandwich into istock search. All of them refer to the boat, so by not doing it, I'd be putting myself in disadvantage.

Now, what would happen if one would put the keywords that were removed by the keyword wiki police back in? (on my turkey sandwich they not only removed submarine - kind of makes sense, but also turkey)   ???

Holy cow, this part just made me laugh!

Forget that there are thousands of contributors on iStock.  Forget that a lot of them shoot food, especially deli food.  Even forget that there's a wiki police.

But do NOT forget that they just announced a lockdown on keyword spamming.  And one sandwich in a sea of water vessels *pun intended* will put you on the spotlight.

It's your choice.  Good luck!
