Did people actually read what SS has to say about it? It will be thumbnails, and you get paid more than subs. I think its a good thing.

Yes, i agree i messed up. I should have read it more carefully.

The images themselves are never downloaded by customers theyre incorporated into ads via the Facebook interface.

they don't get the image, just a tiny thumbnail to use on fb, as part of the ad interface. frankly, this is what is worth my .33 commission! I am happy about it, and because it's not iS, I don't have a "how will they stuff this up/screw us over" fear.

Thanks for pointing that out, i can calm down now

Wonder if that's why I got a $2.48 SOD yesterday.
Doubt it, from the press release it sounds like royalties will probably be close to what you get for subs.  Probably below a dollar for most/all.

If that's the case then this is gonna suck big time unless the volume is there.

This actually could kill symbiostock or our attempts because small business use facebook and if the images are available on there why are they going to use our symbiosite when they can download them for pennies. This is giving me a serious reason to quit Shutterstock.

This is what I am saying, we are getting paid a pittance, and then our work is just going to be mass redistributed

These images should be going for SOD rates, not 25 cents.

So what stops the image once bought for a tiny royalty, then being redistributed on facebook a million times over?

This is just legalised redistribution of our work on facebook. Think about it currently there are a lot of copyright infringements already some of which are on facebook, this is a clever way to legalise them.

If these images are being sold as singles why arnt we getting SODS?

If Leo has spent time developing this plugin, i dont see a problem with paying for it. We only buy it once.

Symbiostock - SEO & Marketing / focus keyword - note
« on: August 19, 2013, 01:48 »
Although as I get older my memory is going, there are some things I remember. Yoast lied to me the other day and told me that I hadn't used a certain focus keyword before. I checked and  I had. The only reason that I can explain this is because it groups the images by default into batches of 1000. The Image I was editing must have been in a different batch.
Just thought I'd mention it.

Symbiostock - SEO & Marketing / Re: Marketing...what works?
« on: August 19, 2013, 01:46 »
Looking into start marketing and rather than dragging up an old thread from late July thought I'd start a new one.

As independents I know it's on us to do our own marketing.  Has there been anything that's worked or not worked since this was last talked about?

I was thinking about running a Craigslist add but I'm not sure if potential image buyers would even think about looking at a site like that.

The strategies we build now will help those thinking about getting started get a head start after they finish with building their site.

I don't know much about marketing and any links to good, thorough articles from trusted sites would be most helpful.

Thanks.

Anita
You need to do several things

1.Build a strong SEO
2.Build relationships with other symbiostock members to encourage them to network with you.
3.Encourage external links. I managed to make a comment on a news post about stock photos and got a link out of it.

Hi all,

Need your expert advice. I had 138 images indexed but for last one week it became 135 and now it is 133.

Any idea what should I do and why is google deindexing?

If you are changing stuff due to seo, resubmit site map

« on: August 17, 2013, 13:59 »
Won't that also change exclusivity status?

I have some non exclusive and exclusive images

64
Impressions means you were listed on a search engine page. This indicates your seo efforts are working

65
I think you can.

I want to take off this 40% discount, but cant unless i do each file individually or when the premium plugin becomes available.

I reduced them by 40% but not that I have a mix of exclusive content and non exclusive and now I cant change them in bulk without changing the exclusivity status

I think we have all submitted site maps to google, but have you submitted to bing?
This covers bing and yahoo search engine. Before I submitted my site map this morning, bing had only found about 10% of my site in 2 months.
If the engines dont know we exist then no one will find us.
Kind regards
Mark

Thanks, thats helped

70
Really?  I didn't know you could do that there.  I thought 123rf was the only site that allowed that?
So do fotolia and canstock. Just ask support. However, many companies offer free online storage e.g. dropbox.

Symbiostock - SEO & Marketing / google deindexing images?
« on: August 16, 2013, 07:55 »
Hi

I am working through my site doing my SEO. Since Ive been doing this the traffic has been increasing which is pleasing. However, it seems that my image count from google webmaster tools is decreasing.

My thoughts are that maybe where I have changed permalnk URL, google removed them and hasn't found the other images yet?
Not sure, anyone got any other ideas?

Kind regards
Mark

72
Do individually and back up before each update

73
Just had another sale. Wonderful. Buyer managed to get the image, but she said it was constantly downloading as an HTML, how do I fix that again?

Anyhoo, she bought the large version, so thats 17.50 euro, about 23.50 dollar. Again outperforming at least 4 sites. If I can get 2 / 3 sales per month, I am a happy camper.
well done!

I haven't had one yet. Partly i think its time of year with summer slump and also my port is mostly isolates and i think real backings sell better.
