One can never have enough tomatoes 698,000, coffee beans 149,000 or Piles of Wood 54,000

Sounds absurd, but it's very true according to my experiences. Cartoons of a pile of boulders and twig that I made in 2010 sell almost dailysometimes more than once in a day. I've found that if you keep making better and better drawings/photos/video/audio, you'll keep up with the competition. Make sure you're enjoying doing it, however. Oh, and you don't need Adobe'$ Cloud or the latest hardware to be creative, by the way. 8)

Exactly! Many of us paid $400-$500 for PS and maybe some other programs 10 years ago and we were only paying $200 or less for upgrades as we needed them. That was affordable. The rentware as the ONLY option is a BIG scam that treats us like sharecroppers. There should be legislation against Adobe to bust them for monopolizing and racketeering. They will pay for their actions soon.  >:(

Maybe you use some different combination, but for most creative professionals, CC is cheaper.

Not to revisit this painful debate, but it isn't cheaper if you're a long time owner of Photoshop, Illustrator and (less long) Lightroom. And the Photographer deal doesn't help if you do something other than just Photoshop and Lightroom, but not a lot of their products.

I have no problem with them offering the subscription to those for whom it works well. It's the removal of a regular (what they now sweetly call "perpetual") license that is deeply painful for long time users of their products.

I'm not irrational - if it were a better deal for me I'd go for it

THere is no conspiracy. It's a fact! Adobe is driven by the demands of big shareholders. They will destroy the company if it means they will get rich.

If you all think this merger is going to mean more sales and income, don't be disappointed if it's not. Adobe is run by greedy principals who care only for stock prices, forcing software sharecropping on sole proprietor photographers, retouchers and designers. They will ruin whoever they can and use us as rags to soak up the mess. If you thought iStock was a bad example of how to run microstock, just wait until you experience Adobe.

Good grief, what a ridiculous statement.
Adobe make good solid software they're at the top of their game for a reason. It's not like they haven't  had any competition, ask anyone who used Quark Express or who's tried to shunt repro quality docs around the Internet without PDF.
They're proven innovators, nobody knows at this stage how things will unfold. It's a bit early for conspiracy theories.

I use the iStock release for other sites as well. Easy to modify and haven't had any rejections.

I make a payout regularly with them. However, I have stopped uploading eps formats because it's such a pain and the pay is so low.  They also make us submit reference files like SSa real pain. So now they just get JPGs of my illustrations.  :P

They are never....Ever going to answer this question. There on salary. Paid By us. why should they. I have been asking for 5 years. never one word. EVER!! Not even.....Were working on it. They don't care.Period.!!!!!!!

If SS wants to control the world give us a raise to 50 cents for gods sake on a tier level and All other sites will fold instantly. Thats the way you do it. *!!!!!

Well, I know they would probably not answer it. So I was being a bit sarcastic, but with respect. They make good money indeed. We are modern day serfs and they are the lords. But one day...

SS is actively selling our media files and probably with operational costs can not afford to pay us more.

IT amazes me when people with no special knowledge will happily proclaim that an agency "probably" couldn't afford to pay out more. There's absolutely no reason to believe that is true.

It is very unlikely that they will pay us more, because they have to maximise profits for shareholders and they are paying enough to get the content they need. But to suppose they COULDN'T pay more if they wanted to is a very large piece of uninformed speculation.

But that isn't in any way accusing them of being anything but straight in their dealings with us.

The quarterly figures show exactly what they spend, and what they profit. They made millions profit, to say they cant afford a raise is simply naive. They can afford to give us a raise and still increase their profits. As you say, its all about maximising profits now, so a raise would not fit the bill (pun intended)

I think we should all send  them a support email requesting they share the profits. http://submit.shutterstock.com/contact/

Sites that no longer exist / Re: Has StockFuel gone as well
« on: January 09, 2015, 21:16 »
Good luck. I hope it works out. I've been there since 2010 with illustrations. Please make the FTP vector upload a little easier with the "vector.filename.zip" just plain old "filename.zip" Otherwise, the submission process is really nice.

These are great questions because there is clearly a lot of competition.

I can't get too detailed in our plans, but we are starting with a complete technology refresh.  A ground up site is being engineered right now using all modern frameworks and development practices.  The emphasis is on user experience, quality of search and public APIs.

We will provide a very modern and pleasing shopping experience.  Our next steps will be to take advantage of the API and extend our reach into less traditional channels.  We are developing software that will improve search quality, and put our library in places beyond the web site.

Please, watch us this year!  2015 is going to be exciting!

Yes within 60 minutes. Very, very odd. I'm used to seeing my vectors sit there for days. I can barely keep up  ;)

Good luck to you. Keep working hard and don't be satisfied with mediocrityor negative attitudes. When you're feeling fulfilled with what you door from those who try to humiliate you.  8)

You are right 'striving'.
But i paid no attention to the harshness of some people because i know if one guy is harsh, then there are 10 out there who are willing to share their experience and effectively this was the outcome of this thread. Plus i start such thread because this kind of 'repeated' questions do motivate me along the way. And its alright about the harshness cause in every spheres there must be some who always ponder upon the little bad thing( if capslock is such a headache) whereby they bypass the great outcome of looking and participating into the real Big Issue itself. and to all those loving people who helped and share their knowledge, you rock guys!!!

Something was really bugging me about this thread. However, it wasn't the original question by salaahkhayr. A week later, I finally got it and decided to post what is bugging me:

Yeah, Salaahkhayr broke some protocols with ALL CAPS and seems a little desperate for money (understandable in today's economy), but some of you all are really cruel. I highly doubt you would project such an attitude to him/her in person, as the internet provides anonymity and a shield of protection from retaliation. The one major reason why adults and children don't seek advice or pursue their goals is because they were humiliated sometime during their life for asking for advice. Salaahkhayr's question posed a great trial for many of us: Do we want to be a voice of calm encouragement or a voice of nasty discouragement?

As an art studentand later, a teacher of children and adultsI learned the importance of accentuating the positive and leaving out the negative when it came to advice and critique. Human beings can be very sensitive and people with hidden treasures of talent can be easily crushed when starting out by careless and crude handling.

Be kind to others and they will retaliate in kindness. Be cruel and they will retaliate in cruelty. It may not be toward you, but it will be directed somewhere. We've got enough strife and fighting in the world today. Let's not add to the madness.

Peace :)

...I'M MORE A VECTOR ARTIST. I'M REAL SERIOUSLY INTO THIS BUSINESS AND CAN AFFORD TO WORK HARD, REAL HARD INTO IT TO HAVE A COOL AND QUALITY PORTFOLIO(MAY BE 2500 IMAGES BY THE END OF NEXT YEAR). YOU EXPERIENCED MICROSTOCKERS HERE, ADVICE ME PLEASE. AFTER HOW MANY MONTHS(BASED ON GENERAL CASES YOU KNOW BECAUSE I KNOW IT'S NOT THE SAME FOR ALL) WHAT IT TAKES(MONTH, PORTFOLIO SIZE, ETC....) TO ATTAIN $11000? I REALLY NEED ADVICES NOW. I WANNA DO IT, BUT NEED MORE MOTIVATIONS....AND ADVICE ME ALSO ON THE BEST OF AGENCIES...THANKS A LOT TO EVERYONE WHO CONSIDER THIS AND REPLY ME..

You need a portfolio of at least 10,000 across multiple sites (see the Microstock group forum list to research the top earning sites) to make an easy $1,000 per month (submit 50-100 illustrations weekly). You need to find a niche and a unique style as well. It's a brutal industry that rewards creativity and ingenuity. As others have written, don't make money the sole motivating force. Expect to put in 5-7 years to reap the rewards you desire. Peace.

General - Top Sites / Re: Daily or mass upload
« on: December 17, 2014, 08:26 »
I am uploading daily 5-10 files to top tiers, but I've heard lot of people uploading batch 300+ files weekly, monthly etc. (sometimes in poor quality).
Am I doing well, or not ?

Depends on the type of work. I do about 40-50 eps files per week to 15 sites. I upload and submit on one day of the week. The rest of the days I'm drawing things.

Bigstock.com / Re: images earning stats
« on: December 15, 2014, 17:34 »
I contacted support. Good news: You can see which sales are vector:

In order to see which image downloads are vectors, please follow these directions from your Bigstock account:
- Under Commissions on the left side menu, click 'Image Statistics'.
- Click the View Options link and be sure the Format box has a check-mark, then click 'Update View Options' button.
- Set or select a Date Range.
- Export as CSV, sort by Format column.

Any line that has eps in the 'Format' column is a vector file.

Standard Photo is the type of license, as opposed to an Extended License or Partner Sale download, which are higher than your current tier rate of $0.27.

We hope this information helps! Please reply back with any additional questions.

Regards,
Bigstock Contributor Support

Hi all,

I click the images earnings on bigstock, and it shows history of sales with all different price with 'type' - 'standard photo'.

what standard photo means? will i be able to tell what size it had be sold? is it so as eps vector blah blah..

reason is I want to see if the eps vector selling, since it is hassle to upload to bigstock with eps vector, ftp is not supporting the IPTC, only can do by web interface.

thanks all.

Adobe buying photo marketplace Fotolia for $800M 4:20 PM
Eric Jhonsa, SA News Editor
Along with its FQ4 beat, Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE) announces it's buying Fotolio, a top marketplace for royalty-free photos and videos, for $800M in cash. The deal is expected to close in Q1 2015.
Fotolia, which competes against the likes of Shutterstock (NYSE:SSTK) and Getty Images, claims to offer 34M+ photos and videos for sale. Naturally, Adobe plans to integrate Fotolia with Creative Cloud, and offer its services to the Creative Cloud base.
The purchase follows Adobe's 2012 acquisition of digital artwork/portfolio-sharing site Behance, reportedly for ~$150M. More recently, Adobe launched a curated marketplace for Creative Cloud content (icons, vector graphics, etc.).

Most of them seem obvious to me. Trick is to get them up a month or longer before people start their search and getting them listed on a page where they will be found, not buried.

Thanks!

123RF released a very interesting infographic with monthly trends for KWs. Does anyone think it's worth considering for planning what content we create and submit in general (including what we send to other sites)?

Thank you for your replies!
I still can't get used to these Agree and Disagree buttens, I still feel bad when I see minuses tagged to my post. First I thought what?, but then I figured out that it just means that people don't share the same experience with me at 123RF.

Some folks have nothing better to do than to make others feel bad. Ignore them and keep moving. Keep uploading unique images. The more images you have for them to sell, the more exposure you will receive. That will increase sales. For me, there is always something selling on 123RF in batches about half of each month.

222
Well stated!
 ;D
I left NAPP after being a member for many years over a combination of their silence over forcing Creative Cloud on users and shilling for DPC

Kelby is trying to flog himself to make a living, which is his choice. However I had (mistakenly) thought the company was something else - an ASSOCIATION of pro Photoshop users - which it clearly isn't. They don't speak for users or advocate their interests, just cosy up to Adobe & others and try to sell stuff. I couldn't see giving them one cent more of my money

223
Make sure you send him a message through the contact form at NAPP or call the toll free line. Let him know what you think. I'm letting mine lapse no matter what. But I made sure to tell him why.

I was a Kelby subscriber for years. When I saw they were promoting DPC I let my account expire. If that's the kind of business Kelby supports than I can no longer justify supporting Kelby.

And on top of that I saw a post where someone questioned him on this and he gave a "I had no idea" response. Really? If that's true he now knows about it and continues to support it so he can't use playing dumb as an excuse anymore.

224
From Kelby's apologia for Adobe's software sharecropping program (Creative Cloud) to this Dollar Club, I am eagerly awaiting the expiration of my NAPP membership.  :(

Just received a promotional email from KelbyOne advertising the DPC.  Anyone else get this?

I assume KelbyOne is getting paid or getting a cut.

I finally got accepted at Shutterstock! Couple sales from Wednesday to now with only 7 files up, I'm super stoked and hopefully it'll give me some motivation.

Anyhow, I've found twitter to be a decent way to attract traffic and "followers" however, the shuttertweet thing seems to be broken and I can't sign up. I haven't contacted support yet because, I figured someone here would have a reasonable answer or solution.

Congrats. Yes, Shuttertweet and Facebook connect has been broken for over a year now. I've sent many complaints. So have others. They just don't care about it.
