For contributors, there is nothing really new except they accept EPS now, but you need to manually enter the metadata. I just tried it with uploading a JPG/EPS pair through FTP. Yuck :P

I'll just stick with sending them JPGs as usual.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock New Sub. Model Just Announced!
« on: March 04, 2014, 11:13 »
Maybe it's a cruel April Fool's joke.  :o

Let me translate from iSpeak

thinkstock isn't shafting everyone enough. so we are starting a subs plan for istock that shafts people there too. Since a lot of the content from exclusives isn't available on main, we will move it there to shaft them too. Of course you get no RC for this shafting. We will mix the sales reporting in with the PP reporting so it will be harder for you guys to notice when we short change you, don't worry, if we accidentally overpay you we will claw it back eventually.

we are launching this in April, expect all sorts of things to be messed up as we roll this out.

278
I posted they should give us our money...and they deleted it. Losers.

^^ That information could surely have been made in the PP forum and in the original email sent out to those affected.

I see it is now in a PP thread. http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=359490&page=1

I don't fully understand why at least that much of an explanation couldn't have been made in the first instance (3rd Jan).

279
I got that one too. They can only atone by giving us our money. Whoever is responsible should pay for the loss. Not us. We made art, folks bought it, folks are using it and we deserve every penny.   :(

Complain, complain, complain. Flood their inbox:

Partner Program Recoupment Follow up - February 26, 2014

We hear your concerns over the recent recall of overpayments and we are sincerely sorry for having to inconvenience you in this way. While there will always be reason for adjustments in certain instances we also know that errors and adjustments have been all too common and we take responsibility for that.
Several months ago we took steps to address this, adding additional staff dedicated to managing iStock partner program royalties, and reviewing our systems and processes to improve on-time and accurate payment. To start, we reviewed the process for partner program and Getty Images royalties. This resulted in our notifying you on January 3rd and 9th that we had discovered inaccuracies with the partner program royalties for certain months that resulted in overpayments.
So you know, we also have some transaction corrections that will result in additional amounts being added to contributors accounts. Clean-up requires some work, but that work is in progress. The amount is not highbut the point is that we are making progress and for those who were asking; yes, our review is producing adjustments and in the contributors favor.
How the Partner Program royalty error occurred:
The overpayment issue was caused by a database numbering overlap which caused certain subscription downloads to be labeled as image pack downloads thereby resulting in a higher royalty rate being paid on those transactions. To arrive at our correction we identified the incorrectly labeled downloads and calculated the difference between the erroneous image pack royalty rate and the correct subscription royalty rate.
There was minimal impact with September partner program sales (royalty loaded in October) and a significant impact for October partner program sales (royalties loaded in November) when this issue was identified. The database issue was resolved prior to the reporting of the November partner program sales (royalties loaded in December).
Weve made a number of changes to how we process our royalty transfers and hope to improve upon them going forward. We appreciate all your patience and understand how frustrating this has been for everyone. We apologize for having to make these adjustments after the fact.

Sincerely,
iStockphoto LP

Complain to them, folks. Don't let their bullying get you down nor allow cynicism to smother your rage. Let us flood their Contributor Relations inbox with our words.

http://www.istockphoto.com/contact_ticket.php

they deleted my post concerning the feb (jan sold) PP too.

Smells like hell.

No uploading from my side for the next couple of months anymore

Pity indeed. Ironically, this cartoon I made recently sold on iStuck...

Received my IS-mail today: They take away a considerable amount of money whereas they suggest to do it on a monthly basis:

"We discovered that there were some irregularities with September 2013 and October 2013 Partner Program royalties payments. There were a number of contributor accounts that were overpaid royalties over these two months. Unfortunately your account was one of the affected accounts.
We have calculated the over payment amount to be $xxx.xx. Rather than take this amount out of your royalty balance in one adjustment we have decided to schedule the removal of these funds over a 6 month period. Starting before the end of February 2014 we will begin removing $xx.xx. Once per month for the next six months we will recoup the balance of the over payment. You will receive a monthly notification as immediately after the funds are removed."

My sales within this period have been quite good but for sure not as good that they take away this sum of money. We don't have any means to control all the monetary scenarios arising from our microstock activity. It is kind of a "game of luck". Quite disappointing. Confidence and faith don't have no meaning. What a pity.

Pixmac / Pixmac closing
« on: February 25, 2014, 17:48 »
As an Illustrator. I liked their submission process. Oh well. I hope the transition is easy.

I received this email from them:

Hello,

As you may have heard, Pixmac recently joined forces with Pond5, a New York-based stock media company representing a variety of media types, including the largest collection of royalty-free video on the web.  Since March 2013 we have been working hand-in-hand with Pond5 to deliver the best quality content to all of our valued customers.

To be able focus on our most important priorities and offer you a wider range of stock media, we will be redirecting the pixmac.com domain to pond5.com as of February 27, 2014.

Theres no need to worry!  All Pixmac images have been moved to Pond5.  You can find them, plus millions of others, here.

In addition, all prepaid credits and invoices are still available.  You can access them by logging in with your current username to pixmac.net, where you will also be able to find extra information how to transition to Pond5.

As always, if you need any help, just let us know at [email protected]!

Yeah, they sent me a message with a notice that they're going to take out a handful of money every month to make up for their mistake. What is wrong with them at iStock? We barely make any money and they blow it for us and take money back. Despicable slave drivers.  >:(

Lobo just started a new thread on iStock's PP forum.  Here's the full quote:

We've established that there were some irregularities with Oct(Sept) and Nov(Oct) Partner Program royalties. We've been investigating these irregularities and hope to have additional information some time next week. What this means is the royalty payments for September and October are being reviewed at this time.  We will have an update on this issue next week.

I've got a bad feeling about this...

It's time for them to share the wealth with us! I say let's get a raise. ::)

Canstock is a great earner for me. Go for it.  ;D  Envato/Graphic River is a hassle for me to submit (ridiculous rejections). I don't even bother with them.  :P

I'm thinking of deactivating my account on DP (we all know why) and I'm looking into other options.

I submit to SS, IS (here and there), FT, DT, Alamy, P5 and BS. I stopped uploading to BS because the results from that agency are bs for me, in contrast to what the poll here says. It's not even worth to push images there for me.

Anyway, I'm wondering about canstock and photodune. Are they good earners for you, is there any particular image type that goes well on those agencies, as compared to other agencies? They are all rated lower than BS, but then again, so are DP and P5, and I earn a lot more on those agencies, then on BS. So maybe expanding would be a good idea.

Any tips, stories from your own experience? Where is the upload process the easiest (I don't wish to lose time uploading to an agency which will not give results)?

Thanks

Hi everyone,

We are so sorry for the downtime! We had some DNS issues causing the site not to appear this afternoon. It has been resolved and the site is now available. Everything is just fine...not to worry! Kelly

That's good news. GL is one of my favorite underdogs.

General Stock Discussion / Re: January results
« on: February 04, 2014, 12:13 »
SS was above average for me in January. IS was less than the previous month. However, after doing all my totals for the MSG survey, I found I made twice the amount of money I did the previous year. Not so bad for me. Sorry it wasn't so great for others.  :-\

Computer Hardware / Re: Which PC or MAC would you buy "now"?
« on: January 14, 2014, 15:24 »
I am mainly thinking in terms of photo editing, I am not looking at laptops (tired of mine!) or the usual tower desktop pc/mac with monitor, at the moment I believe the all in one pc/mac would suit me better, I understand the usual pc/mac tower is way more powerful with higher expandable cpu or ram or hd etc and cheaper but I am looking for something more "minimalist/practical"

any thoughts are welcome/appreciated, cheers guys :)

Get a used Mac Pro. In my opinion iMac's are not worth the money because I lost 2 to bad displays.  :o

My sales at IS are down over 40%. For a more detailed analysis you can pay me some money.

Now THAT was funny!  ;D

Newbie Discussion / Re: Shutterstock review process again
« on: January 05, 2014, 09:51 »
It's a totally subjective process. Just keep making pictures and submitting. You'll make it.

I have a large portfolio istock, Dreamstime and Alamy with regular sales on all and can't believe how difficult it is to get the first batch if images accepted with shutterstock.
My latest review has failed again despite adding a comment for the reviewer as requested by a member of shutterstock staff.
It almost appears as if shutterstock aren't interested in new contributors.
If anyone from shutterstock reads this post please could you contract me.
Thanks
Sue.

General Stock Discussion / Re: SS rejections 100%
« on: January 03, 2014, 12:29 »
I do my own illustrations and I submit for a photographer. Some person(s) on SS review team is going nuts with the reject button the past few weeks. Their comments are totally unhelpfuland in some cases totally ridiculous. It's part of the regular ebb and flow of subjective judgements. Make sure your pix are sharp, logos cleaned up and releases are correct. Maybe make some changes and resubmit. Also submit to other agencies. SS is not the only one that will make you money. 8)

The last 2 weeks in SS  I have had ALL images rejected for same reasons-POOR lighting, INCORRECT white balance, POOR composition- and I am utterly at a loss after spending HOURS in RAW Bridge and PS ! What is the problem? I am thinking of not submitting any more.
PS-similar images accepted in recent past.Is it a BOT or WHAT???

Shutterstock.com / Re: Inconsistent reviewing
« on: December 21, 2013, 21:03 »
Yeah, my rejections are increasing and frustrating too. Up and down. What SS rejects, another takes...and vice-a-versa :P

Hang on to them, make some changes and resubmit at a later date.

I really don't understand SS's reviewing. You can send a whole batch and they all get accepted or a whole batch (like just now) that gets rejected. To me this depends who you get. To get images taken in decent light AND  edited in Lightroom 4 to be rejected on the basis of poor lighting is quite ridiculous. What more are you meant to do ? At least IS are not over picky any more. Oh well, I will submit them a few weeks down the line and hope to get them in as I have done in the past.

Illustration - General / Re: Worth it or not?
« on: December 06, 2013, 20:55 »
As a illustrator / vector artist I upload my vector files to these agencies : shutterstock, dreamstime, istockphoto, fotolia, depositphotos, bigstockphoto, graphicriver, cutcaster, stockfresh, canstockphoto, 123 rf. As a beginer I need an advice. Are all these agencies worth the time or I should stick only  with the top 4 for example?

From my experience of 1,000+ in my portfolio, cutcaster, stockfuel, featurepics and other small agencies are worth it if the submission process is non-existent or no more than 1 or 2 clicks. Typically we don't have the steep overhead of photographers. They must submit releases with almost all images. I think we should support the small operatorsif they make the submission process simple. It's good to support them if they offer 50% commission too. Also, once you get your own workflow process running, it can be pretty easy to upload and submit to many, many sites (I'm currently at 20).  8)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Deepmeta not working?
« on: November 27, 2013, 12:09 »
It still gives me error:

"the underlying connection was closed. Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel."

Sion, you need to report it on the DM section of the iStock forums. The developer will then notify the IS people. I've had this error for a photographer I work for and it's a problem on the IS end. :-\

So who's coming to the Microstock Expo?   If you are, speak up!  I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in 'real life' :)

Would love too, but my microstock income does not accommodate travel. Have fun y'all!  ;D

Very different for me. FT is really picking up this month.  8)

Hi, all!

Something's missing but I can't figure it out. My sales are almost down to zero and it didn't use to be like that.

Is somebody else experiencing the same thing? Especially now in August, September...  :'(
