iStockPhoto.com / Re: New watermark
« on: February 04, 2024, 12:10 »
The combination of how high resolution the preview images are plus the pathetic watermark means I might just have to remove all of my images. I sell mostly vectors and it would be incredibly easy to download the preview and do a trace of it for free. I sent a complaint to iStock but doubt it will make a difference.

Shutterstock.com / Reactivated Images Missing?
« on: November 09, 2020, 18:44 »
I recently reactivated my images for sale on Shutterstock as it was my plan to start to delete them between now and January 1st when I'll be closing the account (I don't really trust them to delete them all if I just request account closure).

I had a portfolio of over 800 images and now I have 474. It's been stuck at 474 for almost a month. I've written to ask them where the remaining images are and I haven't gotten a clear answer. They did say it was a known bug and they were working on it but it's been some time now.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Shutterstock.com / Shutterstock's Watermarking Insufficient?
« on: February 21, 2020, 22:53 »
I'm afraid that the preview images on Shutterstock are way too large and the watermarking is just too small and light. This might be okay for photographs but I sell mostly vectors and I can see how someone could easily take a screenshot of my work and edit out the watermarking or just run a live trace on the preview jpeg in Illustrator.

Anyone else think they need to be doing more to protect our work?

Adobe Stock / Re: Am I Missing Something on the Dashboard?

Thank you! That worked. And, if anyone from Adobe is listening, this is something that should be right on our main dashboard.

Adobe Stock / Am I Missing Something on the Dashboard?

Why isn't there a place that shows a list of what files have most recently been purchased? Or is it there and buried somewhere where I can't find it?

Telling us this news should've come along with an announcement that Shutterstock was going to increase the contributors' take. Otherwise, it's just them gloating about making 4x as much as us off of our hard work with nothing in return. They're pretty much shouting at us on the floor from atop their huge pile of gold. Thanks, Smaug.

So, here's the thing: before throwing in the towel I actually tried this. I did the following with some of my files as a test:

-opened them in Illustrator and selected the entire drawing
-went to the Transform palette and made the shortest side 2000px (which would made the longer side more than 2000px)
-expanded the page size so the art didn't overlap it
-saved it as an eps

Shutterstock STILL rejected them.

Then I thought maybe making the one side just 2000px was cutting it too close and made them 2200px.

STILL rejected.

I just give up.

Update: there was a problem on their end and they've since fixed it.

So you're telling us that in order to get our vectors approved they have to be somewhere around 770 square inches? what? I refuse to do this. That's insane. I'll restate the obvious again: if they want to make large jpegs from our vector files THAT'S WHAT VECOR FILES DO. They are infinitely exportable to whatever size you want. If they are unable to figure out how to do what other sites have done for years then Shutterstock is truly going downhill.

Oh never mind. Apparently it was not my program that was throwing me off it was the not so good instructions.

I got it to work.

So in case anyone is interested, here's what I did.

I'm using Illustrator 10.
I open one of my Illustrator projects.
Saved an experimental version of that project as an EPS.

Then I selected everything on my artboard. In other words all objects.
Then I opened the Transform pallet. Its located in my windows menu but the newer Illustrator programs have it at the top of your work space.

Then go into the Transform options menu which is the little arrow on the side of the box and choose/check Transform both.

Then in the Width x Height part increase your size.
I had this in the pixel measurement.

Then go to your Artboard located in document set up and adjust the size to be a bit bigger because you still need a bit of space otherwise you'll still have issues with parts out of the artboard.  Again I did this in pixel measurement.

Upload as usual.

Should work now.

Alamy requires that you upload your vector eps files through an ftp client. Typically if I upload a batch they are available for keywording the next day. I've uploaded the same batch now three times over the course of a week and they haven't shown up on the site yet.

Anyone else having this issue?

Alamy.com / Re: Images have 'poor visibiity'
« on: June 29, 2019, 20:45 »
I sell some on Alamy and I honestly tried to come up with 50 keywords for several of my images. I found it impossible. For most agencies my images have around 15-20, and 20 is sometimes pushing it. Adding another 30 words to each image is just insane.

12
I can't be alone in this. I got an email yesterday from Shutterstock that basically said, "Hey, you haven't contributed for awhile, why don't you upload some stuff? Please?"

So if you have, like me, decided to stop uploading your vectors until they reverse the ridiculous decision to make them gigantic files, it seems to be working.

13
The ENTIRE POINT of a vector is that it is infinitely scaleable without loss of image integrity. You can open a vector file in a raster program like Photoshop at any size and dpi you wish it to be.

Here's a tip for Shutterstock: if your programmers can't figure out how to do what other stock agencies have been able to do for years, the problem isn't with your contributors. It's with your programmers.

I'm officially giving up on uploading vectors to Shutterstock until this issue is resolved.

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe's Categories
« on: April 06, 2019, 10:57 »
Thanks for the input guys! I guess categories are probably a leftover relic from the way stock search engines first started out. I won't waste time worrying about them.  ;)

Adobe Stock / Adobe's Categories
« on: March 23, 2019, 12:56 »
I've been pretty satisfied with the upload process after switching over from Fotolia to Adobe, but I find their categories kind of lacking.

Fotolia may have had a bit too many, although I found their drop-down menus pretty easy to navigate when picking a category.

I think a happy medium would be somewhere in the middle but, right now, I feel like Adobe is missing some pretty key ones.

Any thoughts?

General Stock Discussion / Question for Vector Sellers Only:
« on: June 24, 2018, 13:00 »
I've got vector portfolios on the two biggest sites, Shutterstock and Fotolia. I've also got them on Canstock, where they're not performing very well.

Just wanted to hear from other vector contributors if there's a particular mid-level stock site out there where their vectors are performing especially well for them.

ps-excluding DepositPhotos, which I left because I found them to be shady.

Thanks!

Shutterstock.com / Re: Trouble Uploading Vectors
« on: May 29, 2018, 17:43 »
Okay, even tried renaming the .eps and .jpg to new names and it's STILL not recognizing the jpeg when I upload.

Your vector uploading is broken, Shutterstock. Fix it.

Shutterstock.com / Trouble Uploading Vectors
« on: May 28, 2018, 22:14 »
All of a sudden, there's a problem with the web form uploading vectors. When I upload the .eps and .jpg it doesn't recognize one of them and I get an error message. When I attempt to re-upload, I get the message that they are currently processing an image by that name and I should rename the file if I want to upload it.  But the image never shows up. It's just stuck in limbo somewhere, preventing me from trying again without renaming the file.

I'm not renaming all of my images just to try again. I upload to multiple sites. It would be a pain.

This is new in the last week or two. Anyone know what's going on?

I'm selling vectors. They were offering a free download of my vector file, no watermark.  However, I just tried to go to FoundStock and get a page that just says "down" so maybe they finally got it resolved?

I am PISSED. I want an explanation Shutterstock. A significant amount of my vector portfolio is being given away for free on FoundStock with YOUR LOGO ON IT.

If you can't keep my images secure, I'm bailing on you.

With the logo on it? Watermark. What do you want then to do, go turn off the internet? Anything on anyplace can be copied with the watermark on it, that's the protection. SS isn't the only one and turning off your collection doesn't stop anything, doesn't hurt the theifs, doesn't bother SS, it only hurts yourself. Next month the same people will complain how income is down. You can't make money unless your work is for sale.

I wish there was a way to stop the theives. I liked the idea of writing to their host and isp becasuse legal isn't going to stop them where they are. The laws can't be enforced in some countries, maybe the country is getting paid to look the other way.

Shutterstock.com / Re: New submission editor page
« on: November 08, 2017, 23:58 »
Some thoughts on the new interface (I'm a vector contributor):

-uploading a reference file is easier now. You don't have to manually enter a title for the file anymore.

-the keyword suggestion feature is a bit weird and doesn't always seem to come up with relevant words. I do like that the keyword editor automatically decides which keywords are redundant as you enter them. There's no more submitting a file, then having to resubmit it because SS found redundancies.

-there are no longer 2 categories per image, now there's just one. The category selection is still very limited. I don't like sites that offer a million to choose from, but SS has fewer than I'd like.

Overall it seems a bit smoother, but I only upload about 5 images at a time so I don't know what this would be like for a photo contributor who uploads a greater volume all at once.

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Preview Image Colors WAY Off
« on: July 02, 2017, 18:44 »
Well, I got the runaround in my first support ticket and was then being ignored so I started another one which was also ignored. So I guess CanStock has decided this isn't their problem.

However, the suggestion to uncheck the "Include CMYK PostScript in RGB Files" box when saving the Illustrator eps file DOES work after all. I unchecked that box, saved a test file and uploaded it and the preview colors were just fine.

So now I just have to delete the 25 or so incorrect looking files and re-upload them.

Whatever changed at CanStock happened to me around May 12th. Up until that point, I'd saved over 200 vector eps files with no problem and with that box checked.

23
Me too. I was wondering if they had raised their payout threshold, but I didn't see news of that anywhere.

Alamy.com / Re: New uploader stinks
« on: May 31, 2017, 12:09 »
A few things about Alamy's new uploading system:

While the keywording has now been greatly simplified and is much easier to work with, the idea that any image with less than 50 keywords has "poor discoverability" is ridiculous. Most other agencies don't allow you to use more than 30, and in many cases I struggle to come up with 30 relevant keywords for one of my simpler vector images. I have tried to sit down and add superfluous keywords to some of my images and I just can't come up with 50 for most of them.

Likewise, the category selection is fairly simple to work with but the categories seem completely random and don't make much sense. How on earth can a stock photography/illustration website NOT have a category for people?

It's a better system than before, but still very flawed.

I contacted them and told them about it. They asked me to provide 2 or 3 image ID numbers of the affected files, so I did that. Still waiting to hear back from them.
