Works fine for me - other than no recent sales.

Have to say, i dont upload to SS anymore since mid of last year, subscription sales of 0.10$ as regular commission is far too low.
long live AS, SS can go offline :)

I stopped uploading to SS when they cut the subs rate to 10 cents back in June of 2020 and have no plans to resume - just not worth the minimal effort required to upload images even though they are already processed and keyworded.  AS, DT, Alamy and Canva are about the only ones I bother with nowadays.

There was a time I believed Musk was a brilliant guy.

Me too.  He does have some great ideas but also many others that are just plain stupid and he seems to be becoming a right-wing fascist.  He is incapable of empathy and almost certainly lacks a conscience.  Not anyone I want to see with power for sure.

But he is just a whiny  weasel with a tiny  ego

I think you meant someone with a huge ego and a thin skin.  Definitely a whiny weasel.

Elon Musk may tweet my photo's without any credit any day. It will bring a lot of attention to your portfolio for free. But just him and any other person with millions of followers. Don't really see the downside here, only the upside.

Are you serious?  The obvious downside is that nobody is going to pay for your image if they can get it for free.  With no attribution, potential buyers won't know who you are and certainly won't bother to look you up.  By broadcasting it free to millions of people it could be argued it was in the public domain and nobody would have to pay for it, ever.  So no downside at all unless you actually wanted to make some money.  Now if he posted a low-resolution image with a link to your portfolio that would be good advertising, otherwise nothing but negatives.

Some agencies used to (maybe still do?) offer to make your images available for free with the idea that the increased exposure will lead to more sales.  I never signed up for any of those so not sure how they worked out but I suspect the only people who made money out of those deals were the agencies.  Adobe has a free section too but at least they pay you for the deal so it is a way to get something out of less-productive images.

Musk is a dangerous psychopath with way too much power.  He (and his ilk) provides a prime example of why we need to dramatically increases taxes on the richest people so they can't destroy civil society.

Adobe is the only agency that has been growing sales for me.  They are still not where SS was during its heyday but hopefully will get there.  SS has dropped like a rock and will soon be at DT levels if it keeps up.  Adobe is the only one worth submitting to any longer.

56
Wow, that's impressive!  Never had one close to that on SS.  Good to know it's still possible.

I use RPI at each agency as a guide to where I should focus future uploads, since it takes portfolio size out of the comparison.  RPD is useless without total DLs and then you are just looking at total revenue.  Alamy has my highest RPD by far but DLs are so few that it isn't in the top five for total revenue.  Plus we can't even calculate RPD for some of them (like Canva) since they don't bother to tell us the total DLs.  The agency with the highest RPI is the one that is yielding the most per accepted image so should focus on getting more into that one to increase revenue in the future.

E-mail Contributor Relations and talk to a real person.  They'll sort you out. (They may be AI, but they seem real to me :D)

Ok, thanks, will try that.

Woo hoo, I see it!  Some incentive to keep uploading.  Thanks Adobe!

For me I think this is good news.  For some reason my currency is in pounds sterling even though I signed up on the US site from the US - no idea why.  I have not claimed my earnings for several years because it's too much trouble to convert them from pounds back to dollars.  Right now the exchange rate is .83 to the dollar so at .75 it will be a bonus.  If I'm understanding it correctly - for some reason these currency conversions are always confusing to me.

How do you get Alamy to do it?  I remember them asking me once but I declined so I could do it myself, but now I don't think it's worth the effort so would rather have Alamy do it but can't figure out how to get them do that.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

It is annoying, but I make so little from SS nowadays that it no longer really matters.  Last month they were number 4 and this month so far are even lower.  Today I had an SOD for 10 cents - pathetic.  Who cares any more?

I've qualified for this in the past but never used it - either my computer wasn't up to speed or it was too much trouble to bother.  I didn't submit anything during 2021 so could't qualify for 2022.  Last year I decided to submit some images just to qualify for this program so I can see how different the current version of PS is compared to my old CS4 version - which still works as long as I don't update my computer too much.  Was glad to see this continued and hope to try it out one of these days.  Adobe is the only agency that is increasing sales lately and therefore the only one really worth contributing to ATM.

I had some of those too on Dec. 28th after I told them I wanted out of all these sales to China.  At least for these they split the commissions three ways so I netted at least a penny.  Had one for 11 cents where I got three!  How exciting!  Don't know where I can possibly spend all those pennies!  Could earn more looking for dropped change in a parking lot.

These, like the earlier ones to China, were supposedly for editorial use even though they were not at all editorial-type images.  My guess is that someone in China is using all these extremely cheap images to develop a database for resale and they probably are making a lot of money off our essentially purloined images.  I can't believe anybody would still be submitting to Alamy with this kind of return.  I stopped a couple of years ago.  Every time I think it might be fun to process and submit some more of the images that are collecting dust on my hard drive something like this happens and I realize yet again that, no, it just isn't worth the effort when I could be doing something productive like petting my cats instead.  At least the cats are happy.

So they're paying us a small amount for using all our hard work spent accurately keywording images to train the robots that will soon replace us.  Wonderful.  I guess it's better than just using our work to train the robots and give us nothing, which they probably considered.  And next week we all get set back to level 1 again.  Don't know if I can take any more exciting news.

I appreciate all your candid commentary, but saying that someone who doesn't want to be photographed in public is a "snowflake" or is "overly sensitive" is unfair. Nowadays people are afraid of stalkers or what someone might do with their photograph on social media.  Obviously photographing people in public with a big camera is creepy, and your dialog with the person who objected shows that you are part of the problem - you got defensive and responded in a negative way.  The problem is with you - you should have apologized for disturbing them and moved on, period.  It doesn't matter if they are in the background, blurry or will be cropped out later, if it makes them uncomfortable - even if you are legally entitled to do it - then apologize and go on your way.  Wouldn't you wonder if someone was walking around taking pictures of you?

Why on Earth would you use a tilt-shift lens to take a picture at a flea market?  Any possible problems with perspective in such an image could be corrected easily in PS.  It looks like you have Canon gear.  When I go out and don't want to attract attention I use one of their pancake lenses - the 24 MM would be as good or better than your tilt-shift lens and much less likely to ignite someone's ire.  If you have a full-frame camera and can't use those then a small wide-angle lens should do.  My guess is the person thought you might be law enforcement or something like that - maybe they were selling stolen goods and didn't want anyone to provide documentation.

I don't know where you're learning your vocabulary, but "woke" and "snowflake" are terms I associate with right-wing nutcases where I live.  I would read some better sources and then maybe you won't have such a negative view of people who don't want to be stalked in public.

How can we opt out of distribution sales to China?  I want out of that but can't see how.  I've written an e-mail to Alamy but am not holding my breath that that will work.

The same happened to me!  I had three sales there yesterday, two for 2 cents and the third for 8.  On the first two Alamy got 1 c and the distributor got one leaving me with zero - literally zero!  How can they do this and think people will continue to contribute?  On the 8-center they left me with two cents so I ended up earning two measly pennies for three sales.  All were in China, where I assume they are assembling a collection of essentially legally stolen images to resell elsewhere.  Pathetic.  If there is a way of excluding all sales to China and definitely these zero-sum sales I want to sign up.  Or will have to terminate my Alamy account.  Scumbags.

And like it or not, SS is leading the pack by a sizeable margin.

Maybe for you, but not according to the poll on the right.  For me SS was always by far the leader but over the past few years they have been eclipsed by Canva - last year I made less than a third on SS than I did on Canva.  So far this year SS is third after Canva and Adobe.  If it holds up it will be the first time ever for Adobe to beat SS but I expect that will continue going forward.

I've never been able to embed metadata in PNGs in PS and don't use LR.  Maybe some day.

You embed metadate in PNGs in PS the same way you do it for jpgs.
Open your png, click on File -> File info, fill out the form that pops up with yout metadata and then go to File -> Save as copy and select png in the drop down menu below the name field. Do not use the export feature to save the image, that will remove the metadata.

Maybe it is a version issue.  All of my PNGs are made from JPEGs that already have the metadata included.  When I save them as PNGs the metadata does not get included.  Canva used to let you upload the JPEG versions so they could extract the metadata - that was a nice way to do it.  I am still using PS4 so maybe that was changed in later versions.

My Canva sales peaked in March and have dropped every month since - August was less than 50% of what I made in March, and more than 25% less than a year ago.  I haven't uploaded anything there in more than two years so can't complain too much, but it looks like the gravy train is ending.
