It seems like I am getting closer to proportions from the poll on the right side. With exception from iStock cause I stopped uploading long time ago. I could not stand their software.
In terms of growth it getting smaller every year for last 3 years. If SS goes south for some reason there is no hope. Everything else simply disappearing.

Which cameras have worst dust cleaning system? Frankly when I switched to full frame with cleaning system I thought my problems would be over but I did not see much improvement. So here is my vote for Canon :-)

Other sites take all my files while SS gives random number of invalid dimension errors.

1. Submit only to few sites that generate enough sales for regular payouts.
2. Learn more about video, experiment more with video (I am happy I sold a video at SS today ;-) )
3. Take it easy and shoot what I like :-)

On few sites where you got option to upload as editorial sometimes editors when they believe that by mistake you submitted your image as commercial or think it would better be as editorial change type instead of rejecting it. It saves time because you do not have to re-upload it. You cannot do that on SS because of caption restriction. BTW I forgot to mention that you can extract date and location from EXIF/IPTC metadata. I would rather fill proper IPTC fields than creating special description. Am I right that sole purpose of this restriction is to get date and location indexed by search server?

Next steps:
1. Remove restriction on structured caption/description
2. Auto-transfer to editorial when image when image seems to fit criteria (like few other sites do)

Same thing happen yesterday. It was fixed later. It seems like site is breaking under heavy load.

They used to have checkbox that was mandatory to check when submitting an image. Now in same place they have checkbox permitting to add rejected image to free collection. So be careful what you are clicking.

Maybe they want to get rid of it after having 30 million photos in their archives :-)
Here is an idea. They should accept new contributors only through BigStock and if they prove themselves let them smoothly transfer their portfolio to Shutterstock.

Workflow is weird. You should split upload from submitting/editing. I tried with few files and I going to pass until FTP is in place.

PhotoJPG is common across many sites so I basically convert to this codec before submitting. H.264/MPEG-4 cannot used for commercial purposes without paying royalties to MPEGLA.

They want exclusivity so your image is locked. I sold one image in two years. You cannot selectively remove images, you have to cancel whole contract.

I think in general, for all agencies, print run numbers are too generous so users can use standard licences for almost everything.
