I just noticed one of the tweets above of an image of the space shuttle being delivered to New York today. The link shows the image on SS and approved already. How does that happen so quickly or do they watch for newsy items to push through?

What a great photographer. I noticed no smiling faces. Times were hard. It puts things in perspective. Thanks for sharing the link.

It seems a bit slow on the sub side although I have 3 EL's this month which is not the norm for me. I'll catch one maybe every other month. I still think that SS is playing with the search algorithm to find their sweet spot....just my thinking

General Stock Discussion / Re: Help with Nikon Lens repair
« on: March 15, 2012, 08:45 »
Forget it!  its going to cost you more to have it repaired, get a new one or s/h, in a good condition.

btw/ cant see how the electronics can just die?  must be something else as well.

There is a ribbon cable visible inside the end of the lens and can be seen when looking through the camera as well. It appears to have become "unplugged". I can manually focus, auto is definitely out. If the "cable" wasn't blocking the view it would still be useful. Thanks for your comments...jp

I have the same lens and I'm also having problems with it. I also take very good care of it, never bumped or anything but out of the sudden I'm having focusing issues (just with that lens, so it's not the body).

I'm not too happy I spent that money on it in the first place. I should have saved up more $$$ to get a better one. Learned the hard way.

I don't know if it was just me, I never really felt that the VR was functioning properly after about 6 months but put it off and now that I can see the ribbon cable inside the lens, I have a feeling that it may have been loose or disconnected. I know what you mean about spending the money on this but it was all I could afford at the time...jp

Nikon has service centers all over the world. There's probably one in your country (wherever you're located) so I recommend you contact them. Here's a list. http://imaging.nikon.com/worldwide/

Thanks Les..I'll give them a call...jp

General Stock Discussion / Help with Nikon Lens repair
« on: March 14, 2012, 12:09 »
I have a Nikon 18-200 VR lens that just died. I see the electronic ribbon across the wide end of the lens that just appeared all-of-a-sudden and now won't focus. It was working fine yesterday and was not bumped. I'm very careful about my equipment at all times. The question I have, any recommendations on where to send it? I paid $800 for it several years ago and don't want to replace it unless I have to. Thanks for all your help in advance....jp

Maybe "when viewed at full size, quality not acceptable" ?

I believe this is it...the size should not be issue, 12 meg...thanks

Weird rejection. "Full size quality not acceptable". Anybody know what this is supposed to mean? They tend to reject the big sellers and accept the least likely...or is it just me? "Thanks, but we are not looking for such images now" seems to be too common. Ok, I'm done ranting...

I had a "CEL" three weeks ago that paid $42. I have no complaints...

That's something completely different. I got paid 43.5$ the last time, if I remember correctly

I stand corrected. It was 43.50. I was ballparking it and had to go look to be sure.

What a joke they've become...My last D/L was on Dec. 9th and paid a  lousy 9 cents. After 6 years with them I've all but given up hope.

..
"Image subject is too specific or niche-oriented..."

I don't know what they want anymore.
DT is particularly creepy because they tie your search rank to how well you play their acceptance guessing game.

Agree. I would have accepted that they were LCV or improper lighting or something that wasn't so individually opinionated or controversial.

Here's a new DT rejection for me:

"Image subject is too specific or niche-oriented. The primary goal of a stock image is to be generic and match as many usage types as possible. Your image is not generic enough..."

Got 2 this morning. One is a country church hidden in woods and the other is a double iron door with a wreath on it. I don't know what they want anymore.
