Alamy.com / Could someone please explain me my Balance of account
« on: February 01, 2014, 12:12 »
Hi Everyone,

maybe someone here is kind enough to help me. When i look at my balance of account at alamy, i am super confused.
I attached a screenshot. How much do i actually have in my account?

I understand that o means that the money was cleared and when it is x i still need to wait. About how long does it take to get cleared?

What it the difference between Alamy Distribution Commission and Distribution Commission. Why is one 30% and the other 40%?. Why do i get a debit twice?

Do i once pay commission to the third party agency and then again to alamy? That's how i understand it.
But shouldn't the commission that ALAMY then gets be calculated from the amount with the other commission already reduced? Since it seems they calculate their amount from the full sale price? Hope that was kind of understandable.

If i understand it correctly i now have 61.87 in my account. Is it normal that alamy sells more over distributors.

I know, a lot of questions. But i feel like ALAMY does it really confusing.

Thank you already in advance.

kind regards,

Daniel

Hi Everyone,

this might have been answered already, but i can't find anything on this topic.

My question is, i have stock photo accounts on my name (at all major agency's). My girlfriend and I now started doing food photos together and would like to open accounts that we would share, so that it would be easy to see how much income we have so that we can split it.

Is it possible to have a shared account? I guess it shouldn't be a prob because all image factories must have something like that?

Am I allowed to have a second account with my GF? Would it maybe even be possible to refer my GF and myself?

I would be really thankful if someone could help me!!!!

Best wishes Daniel

Hi Everyone,

At the moment i am thinking about buying strobes and the question about how many Ws are needed came up.

Until now i have been using 2 Flashes. A Canon 430EX and a Yongnuo 560. They have been very helpful in learning about lightning, but i have the feeling that they are limiting me. I also find the hassle with charging batteries etc. very annoying.

I was thinking about buying a set of Bowens Gemini 400's, something like this (http://www.calumetphoto.de/eng/product/bowens_gemini_400_400_studio_kit/bowbw4717)

But i am unsure if i even need 400Ws.

Would you guys think that two 200Ws strobes would be enough? The Bowens Gemini 200 for example?
I would like to buy a large Softbox, something around 150cm and a Beauty Dish and maybe a Set of Strip Lights. Obviously all these accessories also suck a bit of light.

Would 200Ws be enough for stock photos. Mostly portraits with 1-3 people etc.?

Which strobes do you use?

I found the Bowens Gemini interesting, because they also offer a travel pack.

Unluckily it is very difficult to get the Paul C. Buff Strobes here in Austria. Otherwise those would be my first choice, since they are quite cheap and also offer the option with the Vagabond Battery Pack (which is also way cheaper than the Bowens version).

Would be happy to hear some opinions!!

Kind regards!

Canon / How is the Canon 24-105 L for stock?
« on: October 28, 2012, 12:01 »
Hi everyone,

i am thinking of buying a zoom lens for my 60d. At first my top choice was the 24-70L but since the new version is very expensive and the older one is getting more difficult to get, i was thinking about the 24-105 L.

How is it for stock? Is the Sharpness good?

Kind regards
Daniel

PS: I own a 50mm 1,8II, 28mm 2,8 and a 55-200mm (which i haven't used in 2 years).
I really think a 24-105 would fit in well :D.

Photo Critique / Are these Images to "Red"?
« on: October 02, 2012, 05:58 »
Hi,

I bought a new monitor a few weeks ago and am unsure if the colors are displayed correctly.
I bought a Dell U2711 and calibrated it with my spyder 3 pro.
The colors seemed a bit of at first, but i thought it was just the wide gamut display displaying the colors correctly now.

Thing is, whenever i look at my images from another pc (or phone etc.) i have the feeling that the skin-tones are way too red.

Thats why i am asking you guys & girls for advice. I know a lot of you have calibrated monitors and that i can therefore trust your opinion.

I attached three images. Are the skin tones too red? Are they way off or just a bit?

thanks in advance

Hi,

I'm in the middle of uploading/keywording a batch for Alamy. It's taking for ages!!!
The most time consuming thing is, taking out all the commas between keywords.
Do you do this? I read somewhere in the instructions that it should be without commas, but does it really make a difference?

Would love to hear some tipps etc. because at the i'm in doubt if it is worth it spending so much time for one agency.

« on: July 03, 2012, 02:11 »
Hi Everyone,

Kind Regards Daniel

Hi,

I was in South Africa for a month and took a huge amount of photos there. Most of them are snapshots, but some also suitable for stock.

I'm uploading those to iStock at the moment and a lot of the photos are of my Girlfriend. Problem is that i would need a new release for each day, right?

This is really frustrating me, since printing, filling out and scanning the releases in again just takes for ages (all this for a hand full of shots).

Is there another solution that i am not thinking of?

I would be extremely thankful for all kind of tips :)

kind regards

DepositPhotos / depositphoto changing language
« on: January 11, 2012, 13:48 »
Hi,

I have already searched about this problem, but couldn't find anything.

Depositphoto constantly changes to the german site (because i am in Austria) and it's really annoying. The problem is that suddenly all my (english) keywords get translated into (bad) german and the whole submitting process takes a lot longer because of this.

Does anyone else have the same problem? Is there a way to solve this, so that it stay's on the english version of the site?

as the title says:

How do you feel about using a model very often?

Do you think it is a bad thing? Does it affect sales a lot?

The reason i am asking is because i use my Girlfriend very often as a model, the reasons are obvious:
- She has fun posing
- We just shoot whenever we feel like it
- Relaxed vibe
- Trust each other
- No problems with MRs
etc.

I only started doing Microstock about half a year ago, but i feel like 80% of my portfolio is of pictures of her.

Would be happy to hear your thoughts about this

Hi everybody,

I have been reading these forums for a while now and must say that it is great, also for a newbie like myself.

I started uploading photos to microstock agency's a couple of months ago and everything is getting along fine.

The only real problem that i have been having, is getting accepted as a contributor at SS. I have been rejected 3 times now  :'( but I'm not giving up yet ;D.

One time  5 out of the 10 were not good enough and the other two times 6 out of 10.

In 2 days i can upload again and really want to make it (the 1 month wait feels like for ever).

I would be really really thankful if you could look at my portfolios at other agency's and give some tips which pictures would be recommendable as one of the 10.

I know that my images might not be up to the standard that some (or most) people here have in their portfolios, but please remember that i am very new to microstock and that i am working on improving as fast and good as possible :D.

Can't believe it is so much easier to get pictures accepted at other agency's.

Here are the links

On fotolia i have 165 pics:

Hi,

as i have always understood it, I need a new release for each shoot I do with a specific model. For example: I shoot Peter Pan on the 28.10.2011 at a studio and I shoot Peter Pan again a few days later, let's say the 30.10.2011 outdoors.

Do I need two releases or not?

Reason why I am asking, I have been using a new release for each shoot, which obviously is also a bit time consuming. Yesterday some of my images where Rejected at Dreamstime because of ,"Please don\'t use a new MR for each new shooting with the same model. You must have only one MR in your MR Library for each one of your models. Thank you."

so how do you guys do it.

PS: IS for example needs a shoot description. They obviously need a new release, right???????
