Off Topic / Re: iPhone 5... Is it worth buying??
« on: September 13, 2012, 07:27 »
I think people had unrealistic expectations for iPhone 5. They can't even say what they are missing, they just doesn't get the "wow"-factor because the product has matured. Even if the product is better than the earlier version in just about any aspect.
Every upgrade cannot give the same feeling as the first iPhone or first iPad or first iPod, it's just the way it is.

I didn't had unrealistic expectations, but as said apple products cover nearly 60-70% of market share so yes I expected bit more.
Samsung Galaxy S3 had more than such features which we are seeing now in iPhone5.

Here is the quick comparison between the products.
http://www.thinkdigit.com/Mobiles-PDAs/Apple-iPhone-5-versus-competing-flagship-smartphones_10762.html

I always loved apple products but got confused now :)

Where did you get the info on market share from?
Today on the Radio they where talking about a 20% market share from Apple (iPhone) and around 60% Android.

The expectations where way too high. But it still seems like they are just catching up on the competition.
I was also quite excited to see what it will have to offer and am also quite dissapointed. In most regards it isn't much better than my over a year old Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

I have a feeling that android is slowly getting the edge!

Alamy automatically removes commas fromt he ICTP data, so why should I add them? if they remove them, it probably works fine without them

I never added them! I removed them (manually), since i didn't know that alamy does this automatically

104
I get sales so the keywords are still searchable.
Unless of course they are all coming from the essential keywords.  I find on the sites that show which keyword an image was bought on it is over 90% of the time from the first half a dozen most important keywords.

Thanks for the info. Going to save me a lot of time :D

105
ok cool. Guess i will also not do this anymore.
Still wondering if it makes a difference, since they state that keywords should be separated by spaces.

106
Hi,

I'm in the middle of uploading/keywording a batch for Alamy. It's taking for ages!!!
The most time consuming thing is, taking out all the commas between keywords.
Do you do this? I read somewhere in the instructions that it should be without commas, but does it really make a difference?

Would love to hear some tipps etc. because at the i'm in doubt if it is worth it spending so much time for one agency.

Software - General / Re: 32 bit or 64 bit software
« on: September 12, 2012, 13:11 »
As far as i know, the main Advantage is that the 64bit versions can use more than 4gb(in most cases 3,2gb) of ram and therefore is faster. Another thing is that 32bit programs need to run in some kind of compatability mode, which might slow it down a tiny bit.

But if you have a 64bit system, why not just use the 64bit versions of the Programs?

How many photos in a week? Well, my maths isn't great, but at 7fps for 7 days.....  ;D

Get a 1DX. 7fps is so 2009 :P

Just think about how much extra money you'll be making ;D

At What prices are most of you setting your Images?

Most images seem to be set either at 5$ or 10$.

What are your thoughts?

I think the market will support a price of $15 for the largest size, and smaller sizes priced proportionately, which the P5 system will do automatically.  That's what I'm pricing my material at, and I've stopped uploading to the other sites, which means my material will be sold at a reasonable and fair price (with a reasonable and fair commission) from now on because it will only be available on P5.

Yes i agree. I started off pricing my better images at $15 and the rest at $10.

Quite a risk you are taking with only uploading to P5 ;)!

Pond5 / Re: First Sale on Pond5
« on: September 09, 2012, 07:10 »
10$ seems to be a good price for most of the cases, 5$ too low for large file.
Don't forget the high prices buyers give for pictures at Istock, contributors usually only got 15-20% !!!
After all, with Pond 5, you are 100% responsible and you can choose the price higher for some rare pictures, that's simply great! YOU are the seller!
Difference between Pond 5 and other agencies is simply like life and death ( I know, death is also a part of life):)

Very true.

Now we just need to do our best, that the contributors don't undercut their own prices :)

123RF always used to be my second or third best agency. But since a few months ago, they are hardly selling anything and settled at the bottom of the middle Tier. Wonder what happend. Maybe Karma  :o

New Sites - General / Re: Isignstock becomes SignElements
« on: September 07, 2012, 04:40 »
Hi everyone,

Were sorry about the technical issue with the August royalties, just as Charl mentions, it was sorted on Monday and it shouldnt happen again.

Thanks for the feedback on the watermark situation. Weve made the necessary changes and there is now a permanent watermark on SignElements, whether logged in or not.

Let me know if any questions,
Lotti

Do you guys have FTP Upload?
I signed up but cannot find any information regarding FTP.

General Stock Discussion / Re: August 2012 Microstock Income

Why not delete images that have not had a sale in 6 months (or a year). That should reduce the images on sale by quite a bit!

I think I have a very LCV port. Some good points were made here. And to me it seems true. My port on SS is not roaring with 225 dls per month.
and so the low earners only get me 6-10 downloads per month. Middel tier about 25 dls per month
But I am shooting what I like and not really stock orientated.

At the moment:
SS 380 photos - 225 dls month
FT 250 photos - 25 dls month
CanStockPhoto 430 photos - 6 dls month
DP 490 photos - 8 dls month
123 460 photos - 25 dls month

I guess my port is even more LCV :).

SS 460 Photos and only 160 downloads ;(

Shutterstock.com / Re: number of dlds per month at SS
« on: August 26, 2012, 13:38 »
My number of downloads a month is generally equal to the number of images in my port. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but usually very close. It's been that way since I started on Shutterstock and continues even this month, which is slower than last month. For example, this month I've had 904 sales so far with a port of 1,121 images in my port. So, I'm pretty close to on track, and I will probably pass 1,100 sales by the end of the month.

Wow, that's quite a lot. Do you have pictures or illustrations?

sometimes I wonder if I am the only guy that knows what is google ;D

I'm sorry about that ;). But a lot of people here have different usernames than at the stock sites.

Anyways,
@Rob Hainer: Very nice, expressive and emotional people photos!!!

Does anyone have info about Germany? I will read their official literature, but anecdotal reports would also help. Berlin or Munich in particular, if things vary by state/city.

My GF is from Germany. Berlin is amazingly cheap. Huge Apartments. Good for installing Studios. Munich is exactly the opposite. Very expensive and too little space. As far as I know, if you install a small business you pay only the income tax and no monthly fee, like in many other countries. I cannot tell you how much it is so since it is dynamic. You may search on Bing or Google "Einkommenssteuer Rechner" and there should pop up various sites where you can caclulate your income tax percentage online.

Thats true. Munich is Germany's most expensive City. I don't know about Berlin, but i was in Cologne a month ago and it was great. The prices where quite cheap compared to Austria and the people where also very nice there.

Hi,

Just as a comparison,

i have 427 and had 112 sales this month. Could be better, but i have always seen an increase of sales while increasing my port.

123
istock, they just make you waste a whole lot of time with their stupid upload limit, disambiguation, never ending review time and stupid rejections (even for keywords).

I can't express how annoying iStock is with its upload process. Today i timed myself to see how long it would take me to upload 18 pics (the upload limit). It took me 35min!!!!!
Shutterstock takes me maybe 3min and other sites like canstock even less.

I would like to add, that i was using Deepmeta at my average(comfortable) speed. Wasn't trying set any records or anything!

And what's your definittion of "living fairly well"?

i can give you the example of Bangkok, a big city, expensive by thai standards.
- small apartment for around 100$/month with  tv/fridge/washmachine/hot water, eventually a couple fans or aircon.
- a honda scooter
- a smart phone
- cheap chinese clothes
- 1$ meals, anywhere at any corner of bangkok, 24hrs, always someone selling food around take away.
- weekend : getting drunk with friends on cheap beers (1.5$ for 66cc bottles) or Thai rum (Sang Som) or Thai whiskey (2-3$/bottle)
or even the awful Mekong Whiskey (1$/bottle !!).

THAT's what they call a normal life and believe it or not they can make it with 150-200$ per month
and with great fun (sanuk) in the spare time !
Rather than living fairly well, it sounds like surviving in a big city with no family.

There are definately cheaper Countries/Cities than Cape Town.

There are also other reasons to move to Cape Town. Great Weather. Wonderful City. Unbeliveable Landscapes and a huge amount of Models.

I think the combination of these Qualities made him move there.
