Newbie Discussion / Re: Usability of keywording programs?
« on: March 22, 2013, 12:19 »
Hi everybody!
Finally I got my own testing images online and now I know roughly what the uploadprocess will look like. Actually... I don't like it. The reason is the keywording. At the moment I use ProStockMaster. Unfortunatley the keywording delivered by PSM is only effective with depositphotos. Shutterstock and Fotolia won't accept the keywording. Before I upload a whole bunch of photos I'd like to optimize this workflow to minimize my keywording and uploading hours. What can I do? Is there a program, that delivers better and more accepted keywords?
Thank you for your answers in advance!
Andreas

Why is the keywording delivered by PSM only effective with depositphotos? Am i missing something?

Wish they would have a 999 Upload Limit for images. The 18 Images a week just demotivates me.

New Sites - General / Re: RawStockPhoto - new stock site
« on: February 23, 2013, 11:34 »
Your pricing needs work. To compare to StockFresh, they sell vectors for $10 and I keep half. Why would I come to you and have my work sell for $5?
You sell vectors at Shutterstock for 38 cents don't you?

Under subscriptions. This isn't a subscription site.
Subscriptions are just cheaper images nothing else.  They look the same as regular sales, they have the same license, they are just cheaper.  My guess is that if you lowered all the regular sale sites to the same prices as the subscription sites you would get the same volume of sales.  Maybe if RawStockPhoto sold full sized images at .80 you would be ok with it since the volume would be very high?

I don't think that this would be the case. People buy a lot more when they have a subscription, since they want to download the max amount of images possible. For instance my Girlfriend had a subscription for a few months and really tried to download images each day.

I will also deactivate my 375 pics. I never uploaded more, since i just hate the upload system. Just because of the upload, i hope they go down :)

Obviously this whole deal is just crazy. I still don't get why they are taking the risk of killing, microstock & macrostock over this one deal? They are harming themselves, all the other agency's and of course all of us (the photographers). I just don't get their logic  :-\

There's one more reason I'm glad I don't work with models.
I've always been amazed that people are willing to sign MRs. No-one I know would consider it for a minute, and always wonder what sort of dreadful circumstances someone would have to be in to agree to it. Most have seen it as just one step above starring in porn (because of the de facto1 total lack of control of how your image is used), and that's imagining stock models must get paid a lot to even consider it.
1 Because even if the agency issues a cease and desist for a misuse/abuse, that won't undo the adverts, posters, flyers etc that the image has already been distributed on.

Are you saying that about pro models, or also family and friends who appear in photos? Because I have half my family including some kids in my port and it seems that is a bad thing now.

Pro models with agencies here won't do stock shoots because of having no control what their image will be used to promote.
Obviously, none of my family or friends would do it, as I said. Why on earth would they? (Luckily, none of them are starving.)

Well....some of the models i used (friends of mine) actually enjoy being in advertisement somewhere around the world. One of the models was actually quite disappointing when i told him, that i wouldn't be able to sell the images over microstock, because the second model in the Image didn't want to.
I think it's just a character thing. Some people love the attention and therefore enjoy being sold as stock and others find it terrible.

Of course the story is different with pro models. Funny enough a friend of mine is a professional model in Cape Town and he has also been photographed by Yuri Arcurs early on in he's career.

Wow, shocking stuff. The amount of money they made with port full of copied pics! Very interesting thread. SS (and all other agency's) will need to take the Port down!

Why would using a card reader be better than connecting directly to the pc? The reader in the pc is exactly the same as an external card reader?

I think they meant connecting the camera to the PC to transfer files.

:D ok that makes sense. But i really hardly know anyone who still does this!

37
It's annoying that there's such opposite information out there.
At college I learnt to format every time I do a new shoot.
Download every day.
use a card reader, no connecting directly to the computer.
nothing about deleting in camera, which I do sometimes do when I'm running out of space (and my spare card is not with me)

Why would using a card reader be better than connecting directly to the pc? The reader in the pc is exactly the same as an external card reader?

Anyways....i format the card before every shoot and copy my images to my pc as fast as possible.

Very interesting and nice to see all the image uses. But for me, all this would be way too much work. A few times i have used google images for Pics of friends but otherwise i find it to be too much work. ;)

Congrats.....it looks really cool in that poster ;)

In English it says featured as well. Perhaps it is a case of poor translation?  Either way they should /need to get that fixed.

Yes, i also think it is a case of poor translation. Would be the only plausible explanation.

On the german site it says exclusive.

And Funny enough, if you click on he's account, it says non-exclusive :D

Ok, i found the solution. The file name of the files was just too long :)

Hi,

I am having some problems with Prostockmaster. Some of the thumbnails are not showing up and i can't find the reason for this. Does anyone here know a solution? Would be great :)

BTW: All the files are normal jpegs exported from Lighroom

« on: December 01, 2012, 07:57 »
For pesimist has 24-105 on wide: DISTORTION.
For positive thinking people has picture like all wide lens
:)  which can be corrected with JUST ONE CLICK.
But if You have bad feeling about distortion : do not shoot under 28
:)
Enjoy.

So true!

I'm waiting to see what the image quality is like on the 24-70L f/4 IS. If it's excellent, I may sell my 24-70 2.8L and buy the f/4L for the IS and better image quality.

Lisa, I have heard that the 24-105 has heavy distortion on the wide end. Do you have any issue with that?

Hi,
I bought a 24-105 about a month ago and yes, the distortion is quite heavy on the wide end.
I don't mind it that much, since i import all my images in Lightroom and it automatically does the lens correction. But sure....no distortion to begin with would be better.

Anyone else thinking Firefox are publishing too many new major versions?
I can't see anything radically new since version 8 or so... Why don't they call it Firefox 8.x.y instead of 18?
..........like something is chasing them.  ???

They are chasing Chrome :)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Stats haven't updated since Nov. 14th?
« on: November 29, 2012, 02:25 »
Is everybody's Balance correct now?

My monthly Stats are correct now. The Sales are showing up there (from the 15th nov. onwards) and the monthly balance went up by $20,--.

My Problem is that the total Balance in the Bottom only went up by $0,48.

So in summary, my monthly stat went up by 20 Dollars and my total balance only went up by 0,48.

This really annoys me, since i'm loosing my trust. They could be only giving me 1/10 of the sales and i wouldn't have an opportunity to find it out.
