StockXpert.com / Re: StockXpert Dead?
« on: September 15, 2008, 12:00 »
StockXpert has tanked for me since they added Photos.com.
Don't know if it is because I am a fairly new contributor with a smaller port or what? Also, I no longer get rejections on anything I upload there. They take everything, usually approved within a couple of hours.

There is a thread in the StockXpert forum where many people are saying they are getting no views on newly uploaded images.

Strange -- I've got a small batch waiting for approval from September 9th.   ???

Also, I, too, have had no sales since photo.com went up.

I will, perhaps, assigning copyright ownership to your survivor(s)?

I am saving for this camera, so I will be interested in you results  ;D

This especially is surprising given their recent push.  They created their "school of stock" which had a lot of good information and was presented very well on their web site.  And then there was their "shoot the day!" event in July with lots of publicity and development (their web pages nearly doubled -- included the school of stock section).  They just announced the winners of that competition yesterday.  And today they close.  Oh well.

Very sad news  :'(

I guess I don't have to worry about the whether the images I have pending will be approved or not.  Now I've got to decide whether to send them to Alamy or microstock.

I tend to agree with you, Peter.

I understand the reaction of those opposing it -- that company is making a lot of money at this, and I can see their point that we should get a larger share.

But, I look at it this way.....  If an ad agency get one of my pictures for an ad compain on subscription I get pennies and the agency makes thousands.  So what wrong with the printing company making a hundred dollars and me making $1.85?  Sounds like a better deal to me!

Sorry, but: IMO the font absolutely sucks.

Especially the quotes in italic are a pain for my eyes, and the plain white background plus a neon green left border don't help at all. Certainly not every designer's first choice ...

Perhaps Arial or Tahoma or Georgia are oldschool, but at least they are easy to read.

Oh, and a dark grey background with a black font ain't good for the posting previews ... :)

Wow, one of out monitors is way out of calibration.  The green left border on the quote box is quite subdued on my screen, ant the "dark grey" background elsewhere is a soft bluish/gray for me.  And, the line in your message where you specified arial font, looks the same as the others on my screen.

Strange.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Has your camera ever needed some repair?
« on: September 10, 2008, 16:00 »
I had 3 cannons in a row that "went south."  1 film and 2 video.  They all went in for repairs at least once.  I had Nikons before that with no problems, and Pentax following with no problems.  I guess everyone's mileage varies  ;)

I had three sales there today!  Yippee!

WOW -- three in one day!  That's pretty good, Stacy!  Still waiting for my first  :-X

I think if you need a local presence -- as in doing weddings, freelance, etc. -- a personal website would be a big plus.  But if all you're doing is stock, I don't see how it would help much (hence, why I have done one).  After all, there is no way I could attract the amount of traffic to my personal site that iStock does, for example.

But if others have different experience, I'd love to hear about it.  I have the server space and ability to build a site, just don't see the benefit.

Leaf -- A few comments on the new skin.
Overall it looks great and the text is a lot crisper and easier to read.   ;D ;D
However, there a few things that I'm noticing that you may wish to check into.  I'm at work (the dull job) and only have a 17" monitor.  A lot doesn't fit properly.  About 3/4 of the avatars get cropped with scroll bars on both the side and bottom.  Likewise on the center frame, where the messages are.  If someone uses the "quote", that pane won't fit and causes one to have to use scroll bars to read the entire message.

None of this, I'm sure, is a problem for those  lucky to have a larger monitor.

It's not just microphotography that's slow.  Under my assumed name, I sell new cars, and we haven't had a customer all day.

Thank you icefront.  You were right on target with your advice.  I don't know how I missed that.  I was on that page 100 times before looking for it!  What can I say -- old age?  Frustration?  Too many V&T's?

Anyway, thanks for your help!

She has some files both on PhotoShelter and on iStock.  Only a couple, but I'd rather just get them off istock (never sold any) to avoid a potential problem.

iStockPhoto.com / How to delete an image on istock
« on: September 05, 2008, 17:08 »
I finally talked my wife into shooting more stock photos and am helping her get her port into order....

How do I delete an image on istock?  I've looked all over and can't find the delete button.  I need to delete some she uploaded some time ago.

Thanks,
Steve
