General Stock Discussion / Re: Age as a keyword?
« on: September 02, 2008, 11:57 »
It really would be nice if there were somekind of standard.  I don't do very many people shots -- yet -- but when I do I usually enter 20s, or 50s, or 60s, indicating the decade.  But, should it be just 20, or 20s, or 20's?  Seems as though I've seen 50-60 instead of 50s.

Wow -- I don't know how these posts make me feel.  Yes, I'm guilty of submitting many of the "awful" subjects they have listed.  And yes, I've gotten rejections for noise, but about 2/3 of those I can't find the offending noise.  My acceptance ratios in the big six vary from about 80% all the way down to 30% at Fotolia.

I guess I just don't get it.

And after eliminating all the awful subjects listed by those two reviewers, there is not much left to shoot.   :'(

Anyone that cuts advertising, is cutting their own throats, at least in the retail world.

I wish someone would tell tell this to my day-job boss!  We are slow, so what does he do?  Blames it all on the sales staff and then cuts advertising  ::)

I have some in que with generic model releases (used them before with no problem), so we'll see.

I would think more buyers would turn away from conventional higher prices sources to micro subscriptions.  Especially with the current trend in business towards consolidation -- sub prices become less important if your buying for 4 local newspapers rather than for just one.

I just started uploading here about the same time as the photos.com flap started.  I had a few sales immediately, but NONE in the past couple weeks.  'Course my port is still growing in size and quality (at least I hope so)...

When I look at the names of members that are online (in left hand column) why are some of them in Bold.  Are they moderators?

Thanks Leaf!  This sounds perfect.  When I get home tonight I'll download and give it a try and let everyone know how it works for me.

Thanks for sharing, Graphically!  My biggest beef about keyworking is the lack of spell checking.  I find it amazing that none of the software I've found includes spell check (photoshop, bridge, lighthouse, cushy, prostock), yet every free email program comes with this feature, as does this forum.  I usually type my keywords in to MSWord then copy/past into photoshop, but is a drag.

I use the dodge tool quite a bit on isolations, but do try and get them as clean as possible in the camera then with exposure adjustments in camera raw, first.  But what I do before using the dodge tool is to set up a level layer and in levels drag theleft slider quite a ways to the right to exaggerate the not-quite-white areas (like in the corners) so I don't miss them.  Once I'm done, I delete the levels layer.

Wow, I'd never thought I would see the day when my own images were available for sale on photos.com

This is huge.  I've only made a few sales so far this month, but for those of you that don't know how bigtime photos.com is...it's a widely know subscription site in the graphic design world, ad it's been around forever.

Are you saying it's got a good reputation and is used often by those like yourself in the graphic's world ---- or are you saying it just old?

Okay, I've commented on everyone's picture who posted after my last one.

Here is a picture of my wife, doing what she does best --- getting in the way of my shot!  ;D

I have found several of mine on photos.com, but their search engine is really strange (as is bad).  For example, I have a silly image of a purple hair scrunchy (which I did not find on photos.com).  I did a search for scrunchy and found about 20 results.  When I narrowed the search by adding hair scrunchy, it went up to several thousands because it added ALL hair images.  When I then tried to search for purple hair scrunchy, it added ALL purple images to the mix, increasing the number of images even more  ::)

This whole thing almost makes ME what to leave this board.  Can't we ALL do away with the name calling and just get back to sharing and helping each other?  Isn't that what this board is all about?  Or do I have it entirely wrong?

Done.  I just joined this forum today.  Let's give this a try:

Welcome ingesche!!!!  This is a great group with LOTS of very knowledgeable people (not me) and heavy hitters in microstock.  I'm learning a bunch, and finally, after several months, am starting to post.

Chumley, at this moment there's 1672 members on this forum, and many, many more visitors who haven't registered.  I think that one or two of our members were riding you a little hard but you have earned the respect of many more.  I, for one have read everything you have said and I thank you for your time.  I wish you would stick around, you are a great mentor.  If you think about starting your own blog on the topic, I'll be the first to sign up.

I agree 100%!

Anyone had a sale through photos.com yet?  I hope there are enough buyers still there to make this venture worthwhile.

No -- but with such a few number of images there before the merge, I doubt that there are many buyers cruising their site at the present time.  Hopefully they are going to take advantage of the influx of images and do some big time promos on the site.
