Dreamstime.com / Re: DT problem with FF
« on: November 01, 2009, 17:34 »
Adelade - I can't get anything to work in either FF or IE-8?

77
Warren - I primarily shoot landscape, nature and products.  NO MODELS apart from family.

The shot that brought me a double EL in one day was this one http://www.123rf.com/photo_2362408.html

I realize most photogs on this site won't see anything that appears to be exceptional, two people on the same day bought the EL.  I probably am just plain lucky, but many on this site are truly great. I just can't get large numbers of shots at a time, and still would only submit ten or twenty images at a time.  I rarely submit more than one image of a type, but on rare occasions I may submit a wide angle shot with a close up for more detail of a given scene.  Sometimes I submit a shot of a female doing somethin and a shot of a male doing the same thing - i.e. bowling.

Hope you too are blessed as I have been.

Six months ago I was considering giving up on 123RF, and I even contacted them to remove my images.  Fortunately they advised me to think it over and request it again if I didn't change my mind.

Good thing I didn't bail out - I started getting small sales, snd now I get only a few sales per month.  Usually between 7 and 12 downloads per month.  However, the downloads seem to be in the $37 to $40 range - Extended License.  I looked at my sales after four months and had $42.  The next day it was $132.  That's not bad for an old bo like me.  So I'll hang tough.  I only have 160 images in my portfolio.

The reason I naearly quit was due to the huge Rejection ratio.  One month they rejected 20 out of 20.  The next month they rejected 10 out of 10.  So I didn't bother submitting for about 6 months.  In June I sent 19 images, and they rejected 9.  Goody Goody!  Then I got two Extended Licenses yesterday (Aug 6) of the same image that pushed my sales up to $200.  ::)

Since I'm retired with a great income. I only shoot when I feel like it, and I only submit two or three times a year now.  Reason being that I'm quite busy with other things that I enjoy.  M biggest inventory is with BS - 289 images over three years.  I just can't do big shoots.  I at least manage to keep plugging.

79
Most of my work is landscape or animals, and DT seems to provide the most sales for me with BS being a close second.  Pretty near all sites accept those types of images.

Lisa,
I think when you filed for a corporate ID number and registered your Corp. with an address in Florida, you tripped the wire.  Most people get caught when they apply for a State License to collect sales tax from clients - i.e. when photographers sell their work in art shows or when they do wedding work etc. When you file that Sales tax return with the state, it can well trigger an audit.  I doubt if they got your name from any NY camera store.  Even the State Phishes - I think the Agent lied to you when he said your registration had nothing to do with it.

Sorry to hear you got caught in a snare!

Wow; you are awsome Lisafax!  If I have to beat you to get something on CS, I have to say it is time for me to quit that site.  I have tried tow uploads and managed a 7% acceptance rate.  My last upload (6/3/09) of 25 images resulted in 2 being accepted.  These 25 had good sales for the past three months on SS, DT and BS.  I/m not complaining - just astounded at the technical skills they require for .25/ image.  I wonder how old Ansel Adams would have made out there?

I'm out of there as of now!  Just going to upload to the top sites.  BS may not be in the top six, but I like them, because they got me started.

Good going Lisa!  I can't immagine me ever getting two payouts in a month from any site, but it is nice to hear you better photographers are doing so well.  Keep it up!

I was rejected at first for Artifacts and noise.  At the time I had tried twice to pass QC. Someone on their forum advised me to switchover from Photoshop Elements 6 to Full Photoshop.  After upgrading from PSE-6 to Photoshop CS, I got accepted on the first submission using PS_CS.

I might add that my acceptance rating improved on other sites as well.  Now if I could only find time to get back to uploading to the stock sites! ::)

I have tried the captcha, but it keeps rejecting mt input?

It looks like I'm frozen out of the site - so I won't be able to push through any uploads unless they get rid of that captcha thing.  I have never been able to get past that thing on any site.  Must be something wrong with my computer? ???

I usually get one payout a year of between $50 and $55 from FT.  Pretty near anything sells from scenic to isolation.  I can't say anything in particular sells well.

The interesting thing is that I haven't been able to get one image accepted at FT for the past 12 months. The only other site that I submit to on a very limited bases also has a rejection rate over 90% is IS. ???  Perhaps that's why I took a three month leave of absence.  I haven't bothered to submit to anyone for the past three months.  I will probably just upload to BS, SS and DT.  DT is my best selling site, but acceptance rate there is only 45%.  Lets just say I'm lousy at photography, but it is an interesting challenge.

I am just happy that some folks find an image of mine to use.

Crestock.com / Re: Crestock Rejects?
« on: April 07, 2009, 13:47 »
All my images are by natural light, but they reject all images in a batch except for one. ::)  Of the 90% rejected most were rejected for "Artifacts" or "Overfiltered".  Today I submitted 11 images and had 10 rejected.  The reasons - same as usual! >:(  I think it must be my equipment and softwhere - I'm using a Nikon D-300 with 2.8 glass (Nikor VR 80-200mm) then process using Photoshop CS.  I might add all the images were previously accepted on Shutterstock, Dreamstime, Bigstock and some were accepted by iStock.

I think it is time to give up the ghost on this one.

Guess I should lower all orices!  After one year I have 2 sales - one brought me a $10 commission, and the other brought me $1.45.  I only have 140 images up there.

I'll stick it out a little longer.

Bigstock.com / Re: People leaving?
« on: March 16, 2009, 14:48 »
I now only feed three sites; BigStock is one of them.  they were my first and have been fairly steady.  I still haven't reached 500 images on any site, and I might make it to 500 on BigStock within the next two or three years.  there are times when BigStock seems to stand still, but then something gets things jumping.  I get at least two pay outs a year.  Considering I have a very small inventory I'm happy.  I have about 270 images with BigStock; so I hope to get it up to 500 by the year 2011.

My problem is I have to work hard to get 20 images to submit, and my acceptance level is less than 100%.

I recommend staying with BigStock; they are a steady outfit.  Even when I can't find 20 images for about 5 months, I still get sales.  On SS, my sales dive util I can upload more.  I still like SS though.

If I go into edit one of my posts - my mouse will not move the cursor.  To move the cursor to a poing in the text I have to use the arrow keys for up, down, right or left.  Oce I get the cursor where I want to correct spelling typing keys work ok, backspace moves back and deletes the letter properly, and the delete key works.

Botom line - mouse will not work.

I'm using Internet explorer 8.

Hope this post helps in some way!

Just came in to edit this post. Guess what - my mouse is now working! ::)  May be you fixed it.  ;D

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement AVAVA and Lisafax!  I spent many years with the film medium, and I enjoyed the success that finally rewarded me with a Hasselblad.  I also enjoyed seeing my students become successful Weding Photographers.  Things seemed much easier then.  The digital age came along, and we old birds had to learn to fly all over again.  I must say, you younguns are truly dedicated.

Lisafax - I have noticed you, and you are quite successful.  I have a high regard for you and others in your class.  If you are having difficulties on FT, no wonder I 'm in trouble. ???  I am blessed to even be on this forumn - give em hell guys and gals!

BTW - I just ordered one of those tablet things I found on Amazon for $62.  I'm getting the pen and tablet which is supposed to work with PS CS.  Now Ihave to learn another fangdangled thin-of-a-majig.  ;D  I always wanted one to make selection work a little easier, but they were a ;ittle high priced.  Who knows; I might even learn to make illustrations before the Lord calls me up to help clean the stables or something like that.

Have a verry Happy Thanksgiving!!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Which Site Will be Next to TanK?
« on: November 26, 2008, 11:20 »
I remember reading something that went "Pride goes before the fall".  Did that mean IS is in their Autimn or they would fall flat on their but ome day?  ::)

AVAVA - Thanks for your concern, but I'm not sorrowful about anything.  I am already happy- just decidedd to limit my upload time based on my personal stats.  Actually I'm just trying to say just because we may not succeed on a particular site is not to take it personal.

I am quite satisfied, because I have just about everything I need and want - That is something to give thanks about!  I already earned a great pension, so I'm just doing this for a little pin money.  I can't say what any particular newbee is after, but many are no doubt in my position.  It is my love for photography that keeps me shooting; having an image someone else can use is a bonus.

So keep shooting and working at it, because we all fit in somewhere.  ;D

Someone pointed out that Alamy is a place where images submitted as RM>>For Editorial use Only does well.  The nice thing about that, I don't have to sweat MRs, PRs or removing a name or license plate number.  So if Old Roadrunner gets lucky once a year with a single sale - I'll beat the snot out of the total sales on IS and Fot combined.  ;D

For me DT is my best so far, but SS iss catching up.  I don't have large portfolios because I'm just not a quantity shooter.  If I'm blessed, I'll get five or six worth uploading on any given shoot.  So I have to do two shoots a week to get my 10 or twelve images for SS.  I only takes one shoot for Alamay as I only need a few at a time.

Most of you guys and gals are truly great.  I learned a lot about digital in the past two years thanks to many of you who shared your knowledge, and for that I am truly thankful!  So I do hope you don't interpret what I am saying to be a complaint.  I am merely admitting that things are tough for old Roadrunner.  Any decision for me to give up a site is only due to inability to come up with their standards.  I also have to give up on iS even though I have tried several times to get over the hump of "Overfiltered".  I just can't do it.  How they accepted 10 of my images in a year's time I can't figure out. ::)

Since old Roadrunner is still able to satisfy SS, BS and DT, you newbees may want to give them a try.  If I can do it; anyone can.

Happy Thanksgiving everbody - make a killing!

I'm not sure what is going on in MS, but I have decided to cut loose four of the seven sites I was working with.  I have more to do than supply sites with images they just don't want or need.  Fotolia and 123 are the worst to try to satisfy.

I seem to be doing ok with Almay, SS, BS and DT.  I do hope they don't sstart rejecting 90 to 100% of images submitted.  It could be that I'm just getting old & tired, but I just don't give a crap any more.  I'll do my best for those still accepting my images, but to those that start acting like 123RF and Fot I'm going to cut them loose.

I can give thanks this Thanksgiving that I don't need them any more than they need me.  I already have all the equipment I need and have found a couple of new nitches so I still have something to do.  Good part is - no problems with reviewers!  Seems providing a design service is working out better, and I don't have to buy images.  ;D

Good luck Madelaide!

I just had 25 of 26 images rejected for the same reason!  I have decided not to upload to them anymore. This was acepted by SS and was one of the 25 rejected: http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-20700211-a-beautiful-lakefront-home-in-the-smokey-mountains.html

123RF / Re: Do you make $100/month at 123RF?
« on: November 23, 2008, 16:21 »
It isn't just quality; it has to be the right images.  You also have to upload on a regular basis.  Assuning you have a 90% acceptance rate, or better, on any given site, you have a chance.  Without MR's you can forget about it.  I don't know of anyone making $100 a month without models, volume and a very high acceptance level.

I personally stopped uploading to 123RF due to an acceptance rate of 3%.   Sales on my small portfolio is around $1 to $4.50.  The low sales is attributed to the fact that I cannot upload anything that would be accepted on a regular basis.

After my next paayout, I'll close out.  I should get there in about four to six months.
From now on I'll just try to keep uploading to Alamy and phase out of MS altogether.

Good luck!

123RF / Re: How are things at 123?
« on: November 20, 2008, 11:43 »
At first I had a good experience; everything went south after a quick payout.

I managed to get 140 images accepted and averaged about ten to tewelve sales per month afterward.

I just requested that my account be closed as they just rejected 25 of 26 images all for "Lighting/composition".  I have no complaint; I figure that is their way of saying "Hit the road jack!"  You might say they must have taken on one or more of Fot reviewers.  ???

Since I have been accepted by Alamy, I'm not going to miss them very much.

Good luck!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Stamps as hot selling stock photos?
« on: November 08, 2008, 10:54 »
If what you say is true, that no copyright or property right infringement exists for a cancelled stamp, then it would seem tha tphotographer has no copyright protection either.  Seems to me the original artist would have the copyright; whether or not hey choose to exercise a clain is somehting else.  Copyrights mean little if the originating artist does nothing to the infringer. ::)  Unfortunately most artists and photographers have a difficult time keeping an eye on just how their image is being used.  Especially since most of their images can be used on a myiad of web sites where they can be grabbed by anyone.  Also, how many images are purchased without the Extended License but are resold as greeting cards, T-Shirts, calendar shots etc.

Just a thought from a newbee.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Can inspections become more inane?
« on: October 22, 2008, 10:48 »
Is it possible that some of the reviewers do not understand English?  Could be getting rejections because we need to enter keywords in some other language.  ;D

99
I moved up from a Nikon D-70 and Tokina 80-200 ATX f/2.8 to a Nikon D-300 and the Nikkor 70-200 F/2.8 VR combination.  My acceptance rating improved on every site except iStock by about 20 to 30 percent.

My sales are pretty much unchanged.  So I figure that the sales are more related to the demand for the particular subject matter after the image has been accepted.  Photogs using models or people in general tend to do much better than those reluctant or unable to  work with models due to cost or just not being interested in using models.  I suppose many shy away from people shots as they do not like getting model releases signed.

On a final note, I doubt if I will earn enough over the next three years to reimburse me for the cost of my equipment.  So the equipment I use will generate more accepted images on the five sites I will continue to support, but it is doubtful that my images will sell any better.  In fact I haven't uploaded to four of the five sites for the past four months.  I just haven't had the desire to go on a shoot.  I'm beginning to think that pretty near every possible subject has already been shot.  Guess you can tell I don't take things seriously anymore. ;D

100
The site must have experienced a real slowdown in the number of images being submitted.  Some folks just don't have common sense.  If any site starts rejecting over 70% of the majority of images submitted by nearly every contributer, they have to expect most normal people will become discouraged.

Add to that - crappy sales of less than $75 for a year, and there is little reason to go through a futile upload process.  I realize many contributors make $75 a day there, but not all photogs are equal.  Fot is my worst site for sales, but I do have a small portfolio.  Since I do not use models or people in general, the type images I submit don't do that well there.  On the other hand - many of you guys and gals are doing well there.  Personally, I cannot blame the site for my low sales there - it is my problem.

To those who are getting a good number of sales, I would recommend hanging in there.  Make all you can
