iStockPhoto.com / Re: Refund- client did not want this file.
« on: December 05, 2009, 07:29 »
I buy photos for my company projects on IS. There have been a few times I've downloaded a file I didn't need or ended up finding a better one so download that one too. It never occurred to me to try to get a refund, I just keep the extra files. If its only a few bucks, who cares?

Congratulations! ;D

Just started uploading recently in small batches of 2 and 3. None selected yet but will keep trying until they find something they like. Uploading some previously sent to other agencies and looking for "interesting shots" in my archives and keeping them in mind when I'm out shooting photos and playing around.

Alamy.com / Re: Isn't upsizing nonsense?
« on: December 03, 2009, 10:43 »
I worked at a high-end offset printing co. for 10 years and learned that upsizing any photo, even a tif or psd, is really a bad idea. Alamy shouldn't accept upsized photos at all if they want top notch quality.

When the heck do they pay?  I've got like $100 in my account and there's no cashout request...what do they pay every 3 months or something?

From Veer website:

When will I be paid?
The minimum threshold for payout is $100.00. Royalties will accrue until you surpass $100. If you dont happen to hit $100 during the year, youll automatically receive payout of any accrued royalties after the close of the calendar year.

You will be paid 15 days following the month your accrued royalties surpass $100. So if you made $50 in March, and $75 in April, you will be paid $125 by May 15th. If you made $105 during the month of June, you would receive payment on July 15th.

The weirdest thing is that I just got same kind of sales as you. 3.50 + 17.50 + 35.00 = $56
(The image was a shot of Omega3 fish oil gel capsules, and it was an US sale)

I was just complaining about the lack of sales, but my december just got very good

I bet it was the same customer. :) My photo was of herbal medicine capsules and it also was a US sale and paid $56.

Well, I can't complain now. Just got the largest combined EL ever for one photo. The person bought the large file, a mull-seat EL and an unlimited reproduction EL. :D

Sales slowed down quite a bit this month. Hope it is a temporary situation caused by end of year and holidays. :-\

Never a dull moment at DT  ;) Love seeing what keywords were used and the multitude of statistics available.

Don't know if they've been doing any "tweaking" lately but my sales are a lot better this month.

Also on Istock if you go into one of your images and look at the keywords the first 3 are the ones most often used in the searches that resulted in sales.

I didn't know that! Thanks for the info.

A lot of advertising people take Wed.15 thru Fri. 24th off. Those days plus the weekend might make a slow 5 days at the end of the month. :-\

One example to see keywords used in searches

Dreamstime > click on green tab Management Area >  My Earnings button > Look at "Buyer searched after"

Because of the unique types of images they accept, I think it will help me and others to loosen up a bit and try something new. It's a good thing. ;D

Very nice and congratulations to getting some accepted. :)

Just had my first ten rejected but I'm determined to find something they might like. Last weekend I went out to shoot photos without stock in mind and tried to find artsy, interesting shots instead. I'll upload some of those. Keeps me from being bored at least. :-\ I was doing the same thing where I was only looking for photos I thought would sell well on the traditional sites.

Welcome Oliver :)
Looks like you have a good start with your 3D work and hope you do well.
I also would like to quit my day job at some point. Maybe in a couple of years. ;)

Thanks Epantha.   If the images keep selling on JIU then perhaps losses won't be as bad as I had thought.

We will hope for the best. :) In the meantime, I have added some new agencies to take StockXpert's place in case they are eventually axed. Telling people to start uploading to IS "as soon as possible" doesn't sound very positive. :-\
