« on: April 02, 2012, 13:43 »

Thanks for sharing your experience Lisa. My sales are affected almost as your forecast says lol  and here i started my april with 3 ODs with other subs. It seems spring vacation gonna end there lol

Hope things get better for you Gemmy :)   Maybe it will work for all of us that Easter is so early in the month this year.  Perhaps people will get back to work and go on a buying frenzy for the rest of the month?  After all, the economic news seems to be good.

We can hope!

:) ya. as april started for me i am hopeful... Good luck !

If you are brand new, and starting from nothing a couple of months ago, you pretty much have nowhere to go but up, and will probably see sales continue to increase through April.  I did my first year.

But once you are established and have a year or two under your belt, sales stabilize and you will see the seasonal fluctuations more.

And yes, sales generally do fall off some in April.  Over time some places have uncoupled spring break from Easter - they did here where I live - and people had spring break in March.  But I am sure there are still quite a few taking off this week, next, or both.

« on: March 22, 2012, 08:39 »
I still get images approved on weekends.  My last one was approved on a Sunday.   So, who knows.

I do know that iStock is now beating SS handily on approval times for me, which is kinda scary.   My last two batches were approved at IS in 3 days, while my SS batches lingered for 7 days.    Ah well.  For me 1 week seems to be the new SS norm.

Yes IS reviewed my last batch withing 24hrs. Though my recent batch has crossed 24 hrs time.. may be within next 48 ( or 72 hrs). Meanwhile SS also reviewed few of my files today. Few more are still left pending.

So IS really reviewed my images in little more than 48 hours. And it seems that now it is normal for images in SS to be reviewed in 1 week as my 2nd and 3rd batches are approaching 7 days of review time as mentioned

Almost 9 days and still waiting to be reviewed ....... What happened whit the reviewers on SS?

9 days is my personal best :(

Wow, after 9 days I would contact support.

I mailed the support and got this email-

"
Thank you for contacting Shutterstock support regarding your uploaded images.

Image uploads are reviewed Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm Eastern
Standard Time. It is typical for image reviews to take 3 business days to be
reviewed. However, during times of increased submissions traffic, the
reviewing process time may fluctuate. We appreciate your patience while we
process your image and/or footage submissions.

If you are a new contributor, it may take up to 10 days for an initial
portfolio review. You may at any time log into your submit page, where you can
see the status of your submitted images in the Check Your Numbers category
under Status of Submitted Photos

its not that i have no sale at SS. I am still getting higher there but this month seems to be different. I just saw that i am earning a major portion from my oldest files in IS. Whereas in SS i am selling mostly new contents and just few sales here and there from old content. I would be much happier to see selling older contents and usual review period in SS.

meanwhile i see a constant rise in sale in IS for last few months though adding far lesser files.

Where I am and if it's on acceptance, or if it's for the USA, my normal, everyday, RF images are taking a week currently.

Oh does your review time is in week ???? is it normal review period in SS now ?

Odd things are happening. Had a complete batch refused, all for non technical reasons (to my surprise as I was sure that the content was quite in the site's line). Somehow, someone went back and approved a few images afterwards  :o Ever happened to any of you?  ???

Yeah it has happened with me once but i don't remember whether it was in SS or IS (most probably SS). Initially few images were rejected and next day i saw them online. And now those files are selling well both in SS and IS  :D

Yes, I got the same answer, but they're still not on-line (since December).  Many of them are Spring and Easter images, so I suppose I can count these as lost ...

Oh thats really a bad news i heard about ss till date. I think you must keep on mailing them if that batch is really big with the images you think can sale well. Or else send the same batch again with a note to editor...!

You think 3 days is long ... what about Rodeo.fi then :  I submitted a large batch in december, and it's not on-line yet!
Strange. What did their support say about this ? (did you contact then ?)
my last batch also did not appear online after its acceptance. I contacted their support and they came online. Dunno if it was because i contacted support but he told me that still there is some bug and they are trying best to remove it.

Yes, review time is a bit longer than usual for me as well currently
oh.. so do you keep on submitting new images even with a  pending batch or you 1st wait for one pending batch to pass before submitting another ?

It doesn't matter how many batches, but I try not to have too many images pending at any given time. My impression is that rejection rate is higher with too many (>50) pictures in queue. Not sure if it's real or just an impression.
And some time my large batch is accepted with less (<10%) rejection and some time more (even 80% for one batch). So i believe its on which editor you are getting. Though now i avoid large batches. Though i have no idea about sending another batch when there is already one in a queue. But Thanks for your advice.

I don't get it. Does it mean DT will offer only those images free to buyers which are kept in free section by "contributor himself" or DT may include even those image to Stockfreeimages.com which we contributors have not offered as free to DT ???

I had the same doubt and did a few searches. None of my pictures are on the free site, and free pictures are more or less those already in the free session on the main site. So at least we are reassured that it's a voluntary decision.
Obviously. If DT start donating our royalty free images as free then what would we do ? We can not even pull out all of our images because of their 6 months restriction.. lol i hope this is not the case. Let it not be a start of competition b/w agencies for donating free images what DT has probably started...
