iStock used to have a sensitive issue EL that they would contact you before licensing it to the person to see if you were ok with it.
are we supposed to get notice/information at the time of such purchase whether the image will be used in which field ie. for healthcare/pornography or tobacco ad etc in the case of SS ?

Hey congratulation from my side also :-)

joined a few days after their annoucement, have been contacting with them by email, asking for ftp, very nice communication, I never wondered much about sales but they are certainly doing something, what? actually I dont know but I am enjoying it.. the easy upload (ftp and done), they have after 2 months close to 50k files (not bad I guess)

I have joined in December 7th 2011, have already 11 sales and 69$ (on my paypal), I am not going to say which agencies they have already got over but many, they are also paying 75%, really hope this trend continue

+1 good communication, they have emailed me sometimes informing which files from my portfolio have potential for sale. I have few good sales with such a small portfolio. Just had a sale last night. :-). More over 75% royalty.. i like this site :-)

Yeah... thats a good move ! Thanks Zsolt and team.

"which microstock site/sites is/are best to start for a beginner and WHY ?"

Interesting question. I've always recommended CanStock as the first site. Why? Because their reviews are very fast, they are pretty fair in terms of standards - they reject poor images, but they don't have the "too many images" problem that Dreamstime has. So you can get a good feel for whether you are putting forward the right sort of images pretty quickly on that site.

I've recommended that to all the buyers of my eBook (and a few friends as well) without any negative views so far.

Steve

Hello steve..
Thank you for your suggestion. i am almost a regular reader of your articles in your site and they have been beneficial for me. I do find them interesting specially the data regarding your sale. Thanks for sharing ideas. Keep it up ! :-)

Interesting survey Mr Leaf. Will only 1 winner be announced in the draw and awarded or multiple winners will be awarded ? ;)

Only one winner ... unless anyone else wants to sponsor a second prize :)
No problem :)

Realizing that I am just a young person in an older body made me understand this is the way most people feel, regardless of their age.  Now I have a number of good friends who are senior citizens.  If you talk to them like they are young, they almost magically transform before your eyes and you can see the younger version of them very clearly.

For example, I have a good friend who is 74.  He has some back problems, so he moves slowly, and looks like an old man.  But this guy is the coolest!  He and his partner used to hang out in the clubs in Greenwich Village in the 60s!   He and I have the exact same sense of humor (sarcastic and off-color) even though he is 30 years older than I am.  I tell him all the time that of the two of us, he's younger.

For most people, age is less a state of mind than a state of body.  Inside we all think we're young.
Something that both the elderly and the very young (teenagers or a little younger) have in common, they don't want to be dismissed. Often these 2 groups want to have a say and be heard, but the other age groups may say to them that they are too old too understand or too young to know. I really like talking to young people and I like listening to what they say, I often feel that I'm not really different and can have a laugh and a joke with them. I also like meeting elderly people who have retained their youth. We're all going to age physically, for sure we will gain knowledge with every year that goes by, but that knowledge should consistently come from all age groups. The elderly people I really admire are those who retain their youthful spark and endeavour to keep learning, rather than thinking I'm automatically right or know more due to the number of years I have.

Truly said. When i was young my grand father was (and still now) my best friend. One thing what i feel that senior people do have a nature of giving their knowledge to others specially guys younger to them. They want us to listen spreading their knowledge meanwhile. They do deserve our love.

My dad is definitely an inspiration and he loves every minute of it.  LOL  In my photos, he's actually running uphill on a 7% grade.  That's Daggett Pass outside of Lake Tahoe, Nevada, heading towards Carson City, for those who know the area.  Thought I was going to die just trying to keep up with him for those eight miles, and that was with my sister driving us ahead so I could get the shots!   :P  He shares the record with two other runners winning the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship four consecutive times.  Not bad for an old fart.  ;)

Many congratulations to your Dad. Incredible achievement.

I was thinking also of a group of senior runners (all over 60) I've seen in the Glasgow marathon called Sikhs in the City. I thought they were local to the Glasgow area, but it seems they are a multi-age, multi-faith group, founded in England, in honour of a 93-y-o marathon runner, Fauja Singh.

Thats interesting.. I have heard about them but did not know about their past and winners. Thanks Eli for sharing the link.

BTW, I think some of you're exaggerating. You're naming exceptions as what an average 60 or 70 year old can do and does do. It's like saying 70 year olds run the marathon. Sure they do, but it's 1 out of 100k, not 1 of 100 like someone aged 30. It's not really like that with computer skills etc, but still the ratio between 30 and 70 year old ppl for which using the computer really is second nature is more 10:1 if not 30+:1. This msg board might be an exception, but usually the average age is somewhere between 20-40 on various web sites (forums, web galleries), not to mention social newtworks etc. And why do you think they say traditional newspapers will die with the old generation? ;)

Funny you would mention that.  My dad is one of those 1 out of 100,000.   ;D  He turns 80 next month and continues to win national championships in his age group at different distances, including the half marathon.  Proud of my daddy!

Wow. Its really great. I like such people and love to interact with young hearted people. I wish to be like him and other jolly people at that age.

Just to be sure I've deleted my few editorial images on Alamy since I can only put them as RM and not as RF. Have to think what to do in future with editorials. I'm just starting submitting this kind of pictures.

once you disble your photo in alamy it will remain online upto 6 months. It's in your Contract:
http://www.alamy.com/contributor/contract/default.asp
2.4 You may delete any Images after one hundred and eighty (180) days notice, subject to the section entitled "Pricing and Promotion". This is in addition to your rights to terminate the whole Contract set out below.

« on: December 29, 2011, 11:55 »
So far I am finding my experience uploading to SS very positive. Ok, I had a few initial rejections but on the whole I am experiencing good results getting images into the collection, especially ones IS rejected over and over. I can't wait until I can flick the switch and get them all live to start earning. Only 15 days to go !

are the IS rejected shots being accepted by SS ?

Mine have been, almost universally.  And several have sold in the 100's and have had EL's.  The usual rejection at IS ... look too Photoshopped.  Another reason I stopped uploading to IS earlier this year.

Okay. I will try my IS rejected photos in SS the.. who knows they might get selected.

ya thats quite strange but true about SS. Even though one photo has no visible logo, mark or any symbol still they are not accepting. There are very few things or categories mentioned in shutterbuzz including building interior exterior any pattern. In fact SS contributors say SS now does not accept any of the factory made items. In my 1st test they rejected a locally made toy with no logo or word written on it. Now i am quite cautious about my 2nd test. Will not submit any factory made item or any abandoned building as well.

yes the waiting period (though it seems very long) really helps. And preparing photos in SS point of view get accepted everywhere. Now i realise why i sent this pic in SS test though such photos are accepted by other major sites :-)
anyways congratulation Dantheman.

seems SS (and few other sites) have been more strict with new regulations and categories of 'no more such images' for entries, particularly for test photographs. May be because they have surplus of almost all kind of photographs.

Finallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
got selected in ALAMY...
I cant believe it... it was my 3rd QC (could not pass 2 QC) so was thinking my photos will be reviewed at last
but...... very strange that my 3rd QC result came out within 24 hrs where as my 1st QC result took 10 days and 2nd QC result took 24 days......

I am really thankful to all of you who replied my thread and mails with valuable suggestions without which it was impossible for me to clear my test in alamy...
special thanks to  Shadysue (Eli), Leaf, Racephoto, BaldricksTrousers, stockastic, paulo and karimala for their very useful mails and suggestions that boosted a newbie like me
        :-)

^^^75% commission and instant payouts makes it worth a shot.  They also seem to be willing to set things up the way we want it, having listened and made several changes that people have suggested here already.

Yeah... even i have good experience with them, They are polite and do follow the requests and suggestion of others.

Ah great, just passed the first mark today with a whole batch approved and 499 images online. Been with them since June '11 so it took me a while.

Thank you Shutterstock! Although I have a love hate relationship with your reviewers you are still my n1 agency!

Congratulation Wim. Short time Big success !
