« on: July 01, 2008, 01:55 »
Sigh.. it's still $1.9 for the 10 credit vector. Is the $0.19 per credit the normal sub royalty we get? So I won't hope for more? The way IS introduced it (well at least to me...) sounded like we could get lucky and we could get lucky often and get more than the PAYG royalties.. guess not.

I agree that buttons, icon sets, backgrounds with lots of grunge and flourishes sell well. That's why I focus on creating those stuff. However, backgrounds with grunge and flourishes are not easy to get into istock, the icon sets are ok with istock. Shutterstock accepts most of them and based on the popular images of the week, the backgrounds with flourishes are the best... I still have to learn how to create those hahaha!

Yes, sometimes I'm surprised as to how much royalty I get for the PAYG sales. My lowest is at $0.18 for a 1 credit vector. That's half of what I get from subscription sales in other sites ahahaha! But hopefully those 1 credit files give me more downloads.

I have another sub sale which is still pending update now so I'm hoping that when it updates, I will be pleasantly surprised and hope that it won't be another $1.9 royalty for a 10 credit vector sale.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: IS Illustrator Test
« on: June 30, 2008, 23:49 »
I passed the IS illustrator test the first time but I prepared the three illustrations in a month's time haha! because it was my first time to create vector illustrations so I had to start from scratch. Just got accepted in late May 2008.

I think the most important thing you have to remember is the technical requirements such as open paths and stuff.. You can actually create non "stock" stuff for your initial test. 2 out of 3 illustrations I submitted were rejected and they said it was not stock material! But they were enough to pass the test so I'm fine with that.

Here are the three illustrations I have submitted to IS for the test...

The first two were the ones rejected.

I had a $1.9 sub sale for a 10 credit vector... that's not good since most of my 10 credit vectors sell for $2.3 per download.. o well.. maybe i'll get lucky next time!

yes the last ones i uploaded were vectors. maybe they are speeding up their vector review time! Yey!

« on: June 24, 2008, 10:56 »
i am a newbie in istock and obviously non-exclusive. Usually my files take around a week before they will be reviewed. However, i uploaded some files yesterday and it was reviewed in 24 hours! That's really really fast!

Hmm.. maybe a lot of people stopped uploading? Haha!

Are most of the top 50 sustained for more than 1 month? Or is it usually just 2-3 weeks then it slows down?

Is there a convenient link to see who the "top 50" contributors are on SS? If there is I haven't been able to find it ... just a link for the top 50 images.

Mark

Umm.. probably no link to top 50 contributors..

At one point I think the top photo got like 50-60 DLs per day for a few days, so that should give an idea of the range. 15 or more per day could get you in, 30+ per day gets you towards the top of the list.

I was thinking that maybe 15 DLs per day is easy... but no! I guess not! Still, that's probably a reachable target. Hopefully I'll have one of those one day. Hehe! Thanks!

13 subs for 1 credit vector sale? Sheesh! It's like 10 SS DL to compare with 1 10 credit IS vector hehehe! But hopefully the subs sales are frequent.
One payout in two months would be great for me! I just saw your portfolio and you have lots and lots of images. I only have max 50 and I have only uploaded around 15 which are still pending approval. Maybe 1 payout in 4 months would be more realistic for me! Hahaha!

hi Cofkocof, maybe even the sub sales help improve overall DT performance? Does your earnings reach payout at DT each month even with sub sales?

hey snurder that's great to hear! Maybe it depends on what type of vectors. Hopefully I'll get credit sales too. Thanks for the tip! Does your earnings reach payout each month at DT?

Oh i see.. I thought it would be around 1000+
But of course 100-120 DLs consistently downloaded for several weeks is still great! Thanks for the info!

I was just wondering if anyone knew how much downloads per week on average does those photos in the top 50 of the week have? Is it the same as istock top of the week which is around 100+ DLs for the last week? 100+ a week is too little on SS... so is it around 1000+ a week?

« on: June 15, 2008, 10:51 »
Hi 9lives, I love your people illustrations! I still can't draw that well so I stay away from people illustrations. My very first attempt at vector drawing is a person illustration. I spent 2 weeks doing it and I'm not satisfied with the result so I don't upload it. Maybe after a few months of practice I could draw decently hahaha!

Thanks domencolja! Most of my files are recyclables and icons so it should be in vector format.. but if it would take weeks to get it approved then I should only be expecting sales next month?

But I'll give it a try. I will start uploading to them. Thanks!

Thanks for the information guys.

A few weeks for the EPS file? Hmm.. that might be a problem, but if the sales is somewhere near Stockxpert then I might give it a go. Thanks!

But do people buy the raster? Or do most people buy the vector?

Are vector sales good at Dreamstime? I haven't uploaded there yet because I was waiting if my sales at istockphoto would be good and then opt for exclusivity. But now, I think that would not happen so I am now looking into uploading at Dreamstime.

Are vector sales good at Dreamstime? Is the volume high? Thanks!
