iStockPhoto.com / Re: Buyers Bailing on Istock« on: October 29, 2012, 13:33 »I kind of have to side with iStock on this one. I thought their push for higher prices in the regular collection was good for the industry in general. I can't really defend the agency collection stuff though. Agree. Compared to years ago the quality has vastly improved. It seems there are now 2 clear paths to choose from. I took the red pill! 103

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Sheeeeesh.... portfolios still not updating« on: October 12, 2012, 03:03 »My accepted images from last week immediately sunk like lead in best match, so it's moot anyway. Same here! Most disappointing. Downloads/dollars are just about holding on. 105

Not sure but it could be an old Letraset font that has been digitised!
EDIT: Ah, posted before I saw Perry's revival link. That could be the answer. 107
Selling Stock Direct / Re: I Hit My Goal for the Year« on: September 30, 2012, 07:19 »At the beginning of the year, I set a goal to double my portfolio from a little over 4000 images to 8000 images. Today, I uploaded my 8000th image at MyStockVectors.com, so I achieved that goal. Release the balloons and queue the parade music. You could have said 'at the beginning of the year 2002' and I would still have congratulated you. 108

The Internet is a curse sometimes. I didn't type it the way I meant it. No disrespect to you. None of us are earning as much as we probably deserve. We are all in the same boat really! Mine isn't sinking quite yet 109

Fashion goes round in circles so they say. I guess stock does too! I'm waiting for the return of the 60's....... still waiting

General Stock Discussion / Re: Wow. Have you guys seen this.« on: September 29, 2012, 04:53 »Only if Yuri pays me for doing it, otherwise I've got better things to do with my time, like working out if goldfish will look natural enough when superglued to a glass sheet between two bowls. Depends if its an African or European goldfish! 111
Selling Stock Direct / Re: New project, need feedback or ideas please« on: September 21, 2012, 03:55 »
Its a good idea though Envato already does something similar. And something similar would require serious coding. There are some amazing Wordpress and CMS templates being developed these days so I would imagine its not impossible to produce. Not easy either!

It's understandable when put like this. I joined IS in 2002 so I'm not a newbie. I've only ever been a part time contributor and have only ever seen an increase in sales (generally speaking). Thus I don't share the 'bad vibe' feeling towards IS. 113

Risky with potentially less earnings, Yes! But they are not flooding the market for a short term buck. 116
Newbie Discussion / Re: Why can't I submit to iStock???« on: September 10, 2012, 05:56 »
yeah its confusing
are you using a mac? If so, then you can get the info by right or control clicking the file's icon. Apparently that gives the version it was saved to and the version it was created in. Can't do it on a PC. 117
Newbie Discussion / Re: Why can't I submit to iStock???« on: September 10, 2012, 05:43 »I don't think so. I have no idea what all these letters mean but saved to EPS10 it looks like:I opened the files in a text editing program and everywhere it says Illustrator 15.1. I don't see 10.0 ANYWHERE! I can't see the file name in your quote?. When I looked at mine it was just below the text you quoted and includes the version (10) as shown below. %%Creator: Adobe Illustrator(R) 10.0 %%AI8_CreatorVersion: 15.0.0 %%For: (Administrator) () %%Title: (filename.eps) 118
Newbie Discussion / Re: Why can't I submit to iStock???« on: September 10, 2012, 02:29 »I opened the files in a text editing program and everywhere it says Illustrator 15.1. I don't see 10.0 ANYWHERE! Try this. Open the eps in a text editor. Search for the actually file name e.g. filename.eps That should be written twice in the document, once at the top and once near the bottom. The one near the bottom will also state the eps version nearby. 119
General Stock Discussion / Re: Are you shooting with a mobile phone yet?« on: September 09, 2012, 04:04 »The phone is just a tool. What they seem to want is a certain look... You hit this one on the nail I believe. I backup my kids iPod photos for posterity but perhaps its time to look through them. They can earn their own pocket money then 120
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Istock vs others« on: September 09, 2012, 03:48 »I agree with Sue. September is traditionally my slowest month and it seems to be holding true again this year. 121
iStockPhoto.com / Re: istock downtime 9/4« on: September 05, 2012, 05:35 »Crawling like treacle now, and lots of white/blank pages; though some persistent buyer managed a download. Took ages to upload an image; maybe they should suspend uploads until they get the buyer side and basic functionality sorted. 2 sales! But yeah, very slow. This stuff use to happen twice a week under Thompson. 122
iStockPhoto.com / Re: istock downtime 9/4« on: September 04, 2012, 22:31 »You need to check you browser settings or something because it is fine on my screenYup, you are probably right. This is what I see (or don't see). if you are using Internet Explorer what do you expect! back up now anyway 123
iStockPhoto.com / Re: istock downtime 9/4« on: September 04, 2012, 19:22 »Breathtakingly piss-poor design in that the text explanation of the issue, in several languages but in grey colour, cannot actually be read against the (same colour) background. Who are the amateurs that 'design' these things? Extraordinary. have we calibrated our monitor recently 124
Illustration - General / Re: Gradient« on: August 30, 2012, 19:17 »How do you save a file for istock and not have the gradients go all wonky like this: You can use ovals, I do all the time. Not sure about the aspect ratio suggestion. This issue sometimes happens to me and when it does I redraw the path and fill with a new gradient, which then saves fine. No idea why it happens in the first place. Maybe this link can shed some light. http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=20395 125
General Stock Discussion / Re: general climate is stock, changing or not?« on: August 20, 2012, 01:43 »Oh really? yet the biggest history is about religions, religious wars, goes back 2000 years, has throughout history claimed more lives then anything. Religion is history. Some contradictions here.I think you are on very dangerous territory if you say that society of today wouldn't need "meaningless subjects like arts, literature, history and similar stuff"....all those are utterly important for too many reasons to list here. They might not be the best choice for young students that want job-security, high salaries etc., but in my opinion they are essential for humanity - for example regarding history - there are many times in history that we wouldn't want repeated right? And the soul needs fed too (arts & literature). Part of history yes, but not as religious education. |
