Off Topic / Re: Awesome Space Photos

thanks - lovely shots taken by someone with an eye for photography - pic3 made me laugh, the guy looks so small in his space suit

You have to be kidding. Shooting at f2.8 (or wider) is virtually useless for 98% of shots (especially for stock) because the DoF is so abysmally short. You might get the eyes in focus but the nose certainly won't be on any sort of portrait.

Weird.  I guess I need to re-think my entire strategy on how to take a photograph.  All this time I thought I was at least moderately competent.  Turns out I've been a complete boob this entire time.  Thanks for finally bringing it to my attention Gostwyck.

:)

Depends what distance you are from the subject of course, but I'm also heavy on the 2.8 setting - its a great lens for taking creative bokeh type shots - I dropped mine a little while back and it put a dint in the end rim which means I can't fit a cap or filter anymore.

I've seen the Discovery Documentary on this - yeah, it is kinda scary and there are plenty of other scary scenarios, like asteroid's hitting Earth - No point worrying about it because there's nothing you can do. However, I do keep a large quantity of tin food under the house plus I have a huge water tank :)

Content Aware Fill is a great tool!! Look at these examples if you don't believe me... ;)

I heard it can create unique, high selling stock photos - with just one click of the button!

Companies are bought for all kinds of reasons, tax write-off's, eliminating competition, enhancing a company before selling etc. and we will never know until its happened.

I always buy and recommend IS but with so many of you praising DT I might try them next time.

well all I can say is I just wasted 2 minutes of my life reading this bizarre thread

I think I'm having a premonition because I can hear some familiar music in the background and words too  ....a long time ago  ......Microstock Wars.

The subs were the evil Dark Force and..... oh, premonition has gone now.

Being istock exclusive is not always a bed of roses. I had a total of 7 sales last week. I've only had one sale from my last 100 accepted uploads. Perhaps a bunch of subs on SS would be better for me.

That's not good hey. Have you tried changing tactics? Sometimes, in fact often, images do take a while to kick off - when you get one that starts to fly you wont regret being with IS

The 2 I had already disabled were not the most recent uploaded files so I went ahead and enabled 1 of them so I could disable my most recent ones. HUGE mistake. The 6 months start over again when you enable a disabled file.

uh-oh   ....but can I ask how do you know the 6 months start again?

It's written somewhere in the FAQ. But if you try to disable it again, you have the date that show when you can disable the file the next time

yep, You are right. Oh well, I'm in the same boat for doing almost the exact same thing the OP did - this whole thing is giving me a headache!

I'm only a small player in MS but it takes up a serious amount of time in my life - That has become the main reason to go exclusive - Hopefully I'll make back some of the 50% income I will lose, but my time is more important than money right now.

One question though - Do I have to completely remove my portfolios from DT and SS or can I simply make them inactive?

Japanese take a lot of pride with their food presentation - you could be on to a good thing! :)

As said above, shallow depth-of-field is popular - take a peep at Michael Ray http://www.foodportfolio.com/food_photography/index.html for some inspiration
