Veer / Veer, I love you.....but.....
« on: December 15, 2011, 04:52 »
Veer, I really like you.  I love the way your site looks and feels to use, I love the commission rates, I love your acceptance policies and I especially love the way my balance jumps when I sell an extended licence.  I really want you to be my No 3 agency, but that isn't really happening.  I know I have a small portfolio, but I need to sell more and I need for my images to get more views in order for that to happen.  I also need for my new images to be inspected waaaay more quickly.  Mine have been sitting for a month in the queue now.  These same images have been approved for weeks elsewhere and have been gathering sales already.  It is not just me that is missing out.

You guys are in the perfect position to be one of the big winners from iStock's demise, please don't let this opportunity pass you by.  Please, please can you spend more money on marketing and also employ another inspector - the one that you have seems to be a bit overwhelmed....

I say all this not to try and pick a fight, but because I would genuinely like to see you do well so that we can all benefit.
All the best,
Bridget (StockCube)

Yeah, he will be playing that violin as the ship sinks around him  ;D

Rene, I am always delighted to sell my work and if you have use for it for an upcoming project then nothing would make me happier than to sell to you through Shutterstock.  Please feel free to check out my portfolio there, but as the others have said - no favours please.

Many thanks,
Bridget (StockCube)

My lowest is .09 from Istock.  Probably this is due to my lavish royalty rate of 19%  ::)

Oooh you decadent thing you  ;D ;D ;D

That is interesting, I didn't know you could do that either.  So presumably once you have balances in more than one currency it gives you the option of which one you want to pay in?  I live in the UK, but am thinking of buying a new camera sometime next year.  These are often cheaper posted from the States, so saving the double conversion would suit me very well.

ETA - Just found how to do this on the paypal website:
Go to Account Overview > Profile > My money > Currencies beside PayPal balance

Very cool, thanks for this

Thanks for all your help people, but I am not looking to rake over the old debate re similars nor am I even questioning the policy.

Thanks again and maybe we could just leave it there as I doubt continuing further will be productive,
Cheers

I was new to DT (and independence) and had no idea about the 'too similar' rejection when I submitted these, or I would have sent my 'star' in first.  As I said above, I am not looking to bad mouth them as I am generally quite happy with the way that they review my images.  They are my number three agency just now and I look forward to them becoming my number two once I drop iStock altogether, so definately not looking to trash my relationship with them.  I have now found the link to email admin so will get something sent off to them today and see what happens.

Cheers

Do be patient, we'll announce more when the time is right ;)

Like when it is too late?  Can you explain why you haven't told all contributors about this?  As mentioned previously in this thread inspections are running very slowly at the moment so realistically people would need to upload today to be in with any sort of chance of making the deadline.  When are you planning on telling people that they have missed the boat?

I left iStock because they were shafting me. I take a dim view of it elsewhere. I am not alone in this, so I hope you have thought this through properly.

136
Hi, thanks for your replies.  A model release isn't possible or necessary, but I will offer to delete one of the others,  many thanks

137
Hi, I wonder if you can help me.  When I became independent last year I sent my best sellers to all agencies.  Unfortunately my best selling file (on iStock) was rejected by Dreamstime.  It was accepted by Shutterstock (and all my other agencies) and has since become my best seller on SS too.  (Dont bother looking for it, I deleted it on iStock today as I don't want it to go to Thinkstock!).  Last week I finally got round to resubmitting the image to DT, but today it was rejected.  I had tried to explain why I thought the file deserved acceptance in the 'notes to reviewer' box, but this didn't help.  I promise I was very nice in my tone in the message!

The first time it was rejected for being part of a series of three and therefore too similar, the second time for needing a model release.  The other two in the series were accepted last year, but unfortunately they are not as good as this image.

I would like to try to speak to an admin regarding this image to try and see if I can put their fears at rest.  I am not in the habit of doing this and in general I am very happy with my acceptance rate at DT.  I am not a stirrer or a trouble maker, but would just like the chance to have a fair hearing and a chance to have my best seller at a top tier agency.

I know nothing about the best way to approach this and so if you could give me any pointers I would be grateful,

Many thanks.

Ok, but I wouldn't just take his word for it - what he has cut and pasted above appears to relate to a standard royalty free licence which wouldn't cover him for what is proposed.

Are you exclusive at istock? Unless you are, I don't see why you'd want to refer buyers to istock.

No, I am independent and I wouldn't dream of referring a buyer there, but you can sometimes get an 'accidental' referral via a google search.  ie if a buyer does a search for a specific subject and it shows them one of my images on iStock, then if they click through and buy credits I would get the referral cash.  I have had two that way in the past.

iStockPhoto.com / iStock's new referral program
« on: December 06, 2011, 12:51 »
Hi, the other day I had a look at my iStock account and clicked on the referrals tab.  There is now a higher commission for referrals of $20, but there are now two other options of 20% of the value of the sale or 20 credits.

iStock, being the lovely people that they are, have set this to 20 credits by default.  Just a heads up that if these are not any use to you (as they are not to me) then you should change it to something else soon.

Cheers

Chelsey if you are reading this - there is a full stop where there should be a comma on this page:
http://subscription.veer.com/en-GB/plans/

ie 1,490 not 1.490

This maybe something with it having translated into pounds or something...
Because of this I found it a bit confusing at first as to whether you were referring to the price per image or something....

143
Yep, totally agree with the last two posts.

Also - it is the 6th of December.  With inspections running at two weeks plus you will have to upload today to be in with any sort of chance of getting your images inspected and accepted before 1st Jan, given that the holiday period lies in between.

There should be a pop up when you log in to tell you this, as a lot of people who don't come in here will have no idea.

Site back up again.  A strange psychedelic menu at the top of the page seems the only difference at first glance.

145
I don't meet the criteria and I definately didn't get the email.  There is nothing in my spam filter or bin.  The last email I got from them was introducing my 'personal team' on the 21st of October.

This is not an early April Fool or something from the OP is it?

Yep, it is now past 7am Pacific Time so it must not have been a typo but a problem instead.

It is given as pm in three separate messages - this one, an email to contribs and on their twitter page.

Maybe doing this on a Sunday would have been a better idea.....

149
I have had 11 sales there, but it says in the email above that I must fulfil all of the criteria to get the higher rate.  I am nowhere near the 150 accepted mark and at a 60% attrition rate it would need me to upload more than a hundred images in the next week to get in.  Which just isn't going to happen.

150
Well, considering they reject something like 60% of what I have sent them (and these are all images that were previously accepted at iStock and sold well there), I can't see me making the grade either.  The point about two week wait times for inspections is well-made.

What is the lower pay level going to be?  Does anyone know?  I haven't received that email from them.  I think I might just drop them in this case.
