Me too. My payment was shown as having been paid on my dashboard four days ago now.   :(

General Stock Discussion / CanStock review time
« on: November 13, 2012, 07:28 »
Hi all, does anyone know if CanStock are having review time issues at the moment?  I have stuff pending for 5 days just now - not a big deal relative to other agencies, but as I am used to CS reviewing in under two days I thought I would ask in case there is a known problem of some sort.
Cheers

I am very low on DT this month as well - so far they have been outsold by Fotolia, Deposit, CanStock and even BigStock.  Last month was not good either.

Hey Lucato - good to see you went indie.  I am sure I have probably posted this before, but I will link to my blog where you can see my stats again (just in case anyone missed it!)  I have over 5 years of stats there now, both iS exclusive and indie.  Cheers

Hi there and welcome to stock,

If you have a look at my blog you will see a link to all my income stats since I started in 2008, with the portfolio size given next to the income.

ps - I have not updated October's stats yet, will do that tonight.

I am having the same problem with Chrome on Win 7.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Veer- High Rejection Rate
« on: September 14, 2012, 03:46 »
There is no rhyme or reason for it - it is just poor decision making.  When I look back through my Veer rejection list it is full of images that are best-sellers elsewhere.  Veer could have had those images, could have been making money from them, but have chosen not to.

The login page is working again now and appears normally, so thanks David if you fixed it.  Still not distributing to all my channels though but thanks for getting the others to work again.

60
Hi - I have not been able to access lightburner for a couple of days now - the login page is badly formatted in a '1997' sort of way and although the 'login' button changes colour when I press it, nothing happens ie the info isn't sent and the next page doesn't load.
When I could access it I found that some of the channels that used to work don't anymore - the ones that don't work for me are Veer, Deposit, Fotolia.
Cheers

General Stock Discussion / Re: 123RF Commission Change
« on: August 28, 2012, 03:37 »
I took my payout and left.  It was not just the paycut, but the shabby way that they handled it.

62
I gave up on iStock for ethical reasons.  I haven't uploaded there since I dropped exclusivity and have been deleting some so that they don't get sent to Thinkstock against my will.

I recently closed my accounts at 123RF (again for ethical reasons - the way they handled the recent commission cut was appalling), and also Crestock, for the reasons others have said - they seemed to wish to teach me how to be a stock photographer via their inspection process, when I am doing just fine elsewhere thanks very much.  And they only made me $6 in two years.  Only good thing in fact was that they offered to pay me the $6 when I asked to close the a/c without me having to ask.

DepositPhotos / Re: Very Disappointed
« on: August 22, 2012, 15:47 »
I must say this thread bears no relation at all to my experience with Deposit, which has been very favourable.

Their inspections are fair and very quick and my sales have been building up nicely.  I now get a sale there most days and feel very encouraged to upload more there.  My sales have grown even when my portfolio size hasn't so I put this down to the agency expanding and attracting more customers.

They are middle tier, but definitely a keeper for me.

But Sean, he can't have!  He is the guy with no overheads - duh!

65
it's not going anywhere.

In your own words.  ;D
Best of luck.

So you have no money whatsoever with which to market the site?  If you think you will passively sell images from your site without marketing it then you are very mistaken.  I am sorry, but you are wasting our time and your own.  RF stock is very big business now - you missed the boat on amateurs making a killing a long time ago - that one sailed with Bruce Livingstone.  Perhaps you saw what his old company sold for the other day?

General Stock Discussion / Re: SS back to lousy editors?
« on: August 21, 2012, 13:01 »
If you think about the system then it encourages these sort of rejections.  Reviewers are not going to be called onto the carpet for rejecting something they shouldn't have, whereas they might well if they accept something that is later ridiculed publicly (thinking of the famous toilet door lock shot fiasco at iStock Agency Collection).

Nine times out of ten we don't even complain when a perfectly good image is rejected - a lot of us won't even bother resubmitting as it is too much trouble.  Shutterstock aren't bothered - they have far too many images to be able to present them properly to the buyers as it is - if your models don't have that toothy 'Yuried' look then why wouldn't they just hit the reject button?

And I agree, I think the reviewer will make up their mind with the first image in a batch and reject/accept accordingly.  It is quicker that way.  I doubt they are paid much and are probably on what we in the UK call 'piece rate' ie the more they review the more they get paid.

Veer / Re: Your Veer portfolio on Alamy
« on: August 21, 2012, 08:12 »
I have been away so only just come upon this thread.  While it is good to see the Alamy matter being addressed, Brian has not answered other concerns re Pocketstock etc.  I have now found all my Veer images on Pocketstock.mx  Can you tell me what my commission is from any sales I have there, how I can track my sales there and will I be given the opportunity to decide not to sell there?

When I sell through CanStocks partners for example, I can see the sale commission clearly marked as 'distribution sale'.  These are often very welcome as they can be for $20-30 per sale, more than I make in six months regular sales at Canstock.  I don't mind if it is going to make me more money, but it needs to be transparent please.

Veer / Re: Dashboard Issues?
« on: August 21, 2012, 05:46 »
Dashboard is still broken, I haven't been able to see how many sales I haven't had for many days either.  It is very poor that this hasn't been addressed yet.

Upload and forget.  It is a shame - but they never got their reviewing issues under control.

PhotoDune / Re: Model Releases on PhotoDune - what to do?
« on: August 16, 2012, 07:44 »
I would agree with what Lisa says - I don't want to upload a lot of images of the same model at the same time - it is far better to stagger these out over time, but the photodune method of handling releases is very frustrating and prevents that uploading system.  On other sites the releases are uploaded via a separate stream to a holding area.  When you upload there is an option to link the image to a release held in your releases folder.  A simple click and it is done.  Any chance you could change the photodune system?

Hi Mirko,  I left exclusivity with iStock in October 2010 and since then have been blogging about my new sites and experiences with full dollar transparency.  You can find my blog here if you are interested,

Best of luck,
Bridget

I would make good use of the 'comments' box when submitting to explain this as fully as you can.  I have found SS inspectors to take a very reasonable approach when in full possession of the facts - otherwise they are bound to be cautious - just because they don't recognise a mobile phone doesn't mean it has been 'made up'

75
Welcome to IndieLand Dave,  I wouldn't advise uploading any more to SS til your crown has dropped as it really seems to trash the best match position.  You have good acceptance rates there though so you are obviously doing something right.
Best of luck with it,
Bridget
