Adobe Stock / Re: 0.38 instead 0.36
« on: October 05, 2021, 11:43 »
Nothing to do with country, but with number of lifetime downloads:

Minimum royalty amounts

The following minimum royalty amounts apply to standard assets licensed under the Adobe Stock Large Subscription (350 standard assets per month or larger). Standard assets include standard photos, vectors, and illustrations.

Lifetime Licenses*        Minimum Royalty Amount          (per licensed standard asset)

0-999                          $0.33
1,000-9,999                 $0.36
10,000 and above         $0.38

*Excludes licenses from the free collection.

see https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/royalty-details.html

Mat, one more question:

You said the images in the free section do come with a standard license.
What happens, if a customer would need/want an EL for such an image? Can they still buy that EL (and we get the usual royalties)?
In the addendum it says (point 6): "During the Free Period, you will not receive any additional payment for Free Collection Works beyond the Free Payment"
That seems to exclude such a possibility, but maybe it's just something that should be clarified...

Thanks!

Has anyone actually seen a sale or payment

Who knows? As those sales cannot be distinguished from other "custom" sales (those have been there a long time already...), we just can't tell...

At least I haven't (yet) seen anything suspiciously low.
I can't imagine that this will have any positive impact.
How big the negative impact will be? Time will tell.

I'll do the same as I did with Shutterstock: Wait and see what happens and decide when I see results.
With Shutterstock it was bad enough that I deactivated everything after roughly six weeks.

Let's see how this one goes...
If I see massive amounts of tiny sales coming in (and have to assume an EL being granted for those), the likely outcome is I'll be gone from Adobe as well.

plus all those downloads come with an extended license included...

Summarizing some important points from the FAQ:

- No minimum guarantee applies. Contributors will receive 33% royalties of the Adobe Stock revenue from Pro Edition downloads for every seat sold. Payouts will be distributed among Contributors proportional to their downloads.

- CCT Pro Edition assets come with an enhanced license. Read more details about the enhanced license. CCE Pro Edition assets include an extended license to remain consistent with other Adobe Stock plans for Enterprise. Read more about the extended license.

- Its not possible to opt out of making content available to Pro Edition buyers.

So: Pennys for ELs, no opt out.

Sounds like a complete desaster...

nothing more to say...

Yes, they do have a new program, for 2020 it's based on number of downloads (not uploads).

Details see here: https://www.microstockgroup.com/fotolia-com/2020-adobe-stock-artist-bonus-program/

New Sites - General / Re: New stock site
« on: January 10, 2021, 11:11 »
Ok, let's try to be positive about it...

- 50% for contributors is good, that is already better than the rest.

But:

- Keywording: You need to say more about it, else nobody will believe that you have a "better system for images being discovered and a way of generating Keywords". We have all seen many attempts at that, and nothing so far has worked for anything but very generic examples. Example: I shoot a lot of travel / nature / wildlife. Most important keywords are exact location names, exact species names etc, all information that (until now) no automated process can provide.

- Prices? 50% is fine, but if this is 50% of minimal prices, than that's a clear "No, thanks!"

- Buyers? What is your strategy to attract business? Why would anybody buy from you (a new, unknown site) instead of Shutterstock or Adobe (or...) where they already have an account and an active subscription?

- Who are you? Before I start a new business partnership, I'd like to know who I'm dealing with...

So, I think without a bit more information about you and what you intend to do, the interest will be small...

Shutterstock Contributor Terms of Service 12 b

Copyright Infringement Claims

You hereby grant Shutterstock the right and authority to take such steps as Shutterstock deems commercially reasonable to protect Shutterstock's rights in the Content.
In the event that you believe that a Shutterstock license to your Content is being misused, you shall take no action against a Shutterstock licensee without providing notice of such misuse to Shutterstock and receiving Shutterstock's prior written consent to such action.

Real life example:

About a year ago I found one of my images in a calendar (a printed calendar for sale in a book shop). It was credited to "dirkr/shutterstock". But it had never been sold with an EL at shutterstock.
So I tried to contact shutterstock about that. It took me several tries to get the message to someone other than just their useless "community support".
My message included a photo of the calendar in question, with my photo and the credit line showing. Plus I included the information of the publisher's website (with contact information) that I had looked up.

A few email back and forth with shutterstock ended with them saying they did not have enough information, so they couldn't do anything. But they told me that I could contact the user of the image myself...

Quote (from shutterstock's email): "we investigated the use of your image, and could not locate its source to Shutterstock.
Please note that as the copyright owner of the image, you may send a notice to the user of the image(s) to remove the unauthorized usage."

I did, they apologized and said they made a mistake, and it took me only two email to agree on a payment of 100 for the usage.

Win-win, more money for me and less cost for them, compared to them buying a regular EL at shutterstock.

What did I learn from that?
- shutterstock doesn't care, even if they could make money out of following up infringement cases. No surprise here.
- if I find an image in use, where the right license hasn't sold (that case is rare enough), I will follow up myself.

https://designbundles.net/store-register?sref=NQFdTb (referral link) is offering 20 Cent upload bonus per item in October, also for photos!

It seems to be similar to Creative Market. I just have signed up myself, so have no experience. But according to their welcome email:
"on average each product uploaded to our marketplace was worth $16.46 in yearly revenue in 2019."

Might be worth a try?

Have you started uploading? How is the upload process? Is it possible to upload many photos in some kind of automated manner (FTP, mass upload via website)? Do they read IPTC?
If that somehow works, the upload bonus could generate some quick money...

Can you set your own prices?

What to do till then?  :-\

Pay.

40
i just removed all my footage from 2020 if things don't improve by next month rest will come down, or i slowly delete some each day until there not much left. i thought about deactivating but i guess there the risk they will copy the footage :/ ?

what is the point of deleting your content on ss and at the same time submit to istock where they pay you less than ss?? just curious...

The point is, one has to start somewhere. Today, its SS. Focus.

Well, if everyone had done so years ago when Istock screwed us, there would be no need to focus on SS now...

Shutterstock.com / Re: Become a Shutterstock shareholder
« on: June 12, 2020, 03:53 »
1. As shareholder you don't get to influence day-to-day business directly, no matter how big your share. What you can do is influence the hiring of top management, i.e. if your influence is big enough, you can get the CEO fired...

2. To get at least some influence (i.e. people start listening to you) you might need a few percent ownership, let's say 5%.

3. There are roughly 36 million Shutterstock shares issued, current share price around $36.

No do the math...

42
Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock just became iStock 2.0
« on: June 08, 2020, 14:35 »

- I don't know how to find how many shares there are though!   Anyone know the number of shares in SS?  Multiply the shares by .17 and we know how much they paid ind dividends.  Then we will know what they currently have for cash.

See here:
https://www.nasdaq.com/market-activity/stocks/sstk

Around 36 million shares, so paying that dividend cost them roughly 6 million.

With his 45% he can do a lot to stabilize the stock price, simply by refusing to sell at lower prices.

No, it doesn't work this way.
If he wants to stabilize the stock price he needs to actively buy shares once the price drops.
Just not selling his shares does nothing to influence stock prices.

Investors are only interested in the profit of the company, a bunch of upset suppliers does not worry them.
In the short term what Shutterstock did is cutting costs, so that does help their profits - looks good for investors.
And loosing a few million assets (out of more than 300 million) does no harm to the business as well.

Only when the income side (revenue of shutterstock) is impacted (by actually big customers moving their accounts elsewhere), investors will start to notice.
And probably only when this is either visible in numbers (sales numbers in the quarterly reports going down) or very visible in the media.
The shitstorm contributors are making right now will have no direct impact on investors, what it would need would be a bigger shitstorm from customers.

So any (negative) impact on the share price will take some time.

SSTK....That is the Stock Symbol for SS. What I am going to say no one is going to like but this is one way to make some of your money back from SS. I really can't figure out how much money I am going to lose from my photos at SS but it is quite significant. My 38 cents sells are now 10-17 cents each. My 2.85 sells are now 87 cents. So it looks like I will lose somewhere in 60-75 % of my sells /dollars from last year. If my math is even close to correct SS (SSTK) Wall Street stock will have a huge increase in profits(60-75%) . Which means their Wall Street stock will go up , a lot. Buy their stock SSTK now and sell it when it goes up. It will go up most likely. No this is not what anyone here on microstock group wants to hear but this is one way of getting some of your losses back. I really see no other way. If you stay on SS with your photos you will lose money, if you close your account you will lose money. Yes this is a creepy/sorry way to get your money back but I see no other way if you want your money back. Money is not everthing and yes I know dignity is important but neather of these items buys you food or photo equipment. i am guessing this post will get some haters.

Careful, it's not that easy...
If you want to see what the impact on your earnings will be, you likely need a bit more time.
And then the losses will not be equal for everybody, e.g. big sellers get higher percentages and may lose less.

Now assume the average income loss for contributors would be 50% (just to have a number), that does not mean that SS profit goes up by 50%.
Our commissions are just part of their costs (they also have to pay for salaries, technology, office space...), I remember from earlier reports that commissions were around one third of costs.
So a loss for us of 50% would bring down their costs by around 15%.
What that means for their profit depends on their current profit margin (which I do not know).

Last but not least: stock markets today are very efficient.
While we are still in shock about that rate cut, for the (big) players in the stock market this is already old news.
This change was publicly announced 10 days ago (that's an eternity on the stock market where trading is done in microseconds!), it's fully priced into the stock already.

45
... as I was gettying more and more 0.60 video sales ...

Best typo ever!!!

46
I had one as well a few days ago, same commission (21,12).
On their website  there is no explanation for that, royalties for ELs should always be 26,40 (see: https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/royalty-details.html)

Matt? could you comment?

Tax form expired?

48
It means they use keyword order as one of the factors in ranking search results.

I.e. if the keyword the buyer searches for is within the first ten keywords of an image, this image will be displayed before those images that don't have that keyword in their first ten (all other factors being equal...)

Available after the event would be nice.  Or a transcript or something anyway.

From the opening post:
