iStockPhoto.com / Re: "3 Weeks Of Exclusive Prestige" Email
« on: June 20, 2008, 07:21 »
Maybe could be better worded, but that's just something that has been asked for hundreds of time: more keyword control. Looking at Recent Downloads you often find awfully extra-spammed files. Now, spammig would be a motive for rejection, but exclusives will have the extra-service of being re-keyworded in house. Maybe it's not enough to convnce those in the fence, I don't know, but it's good news.

... and next mont will be 20/80, and so on...

The only way to deal with that is to stop uploading or leaving the sites that haven't opt-out for pennies subs sales. However, that's something that can't be done through "calls to weapons", associations, lists, petitions etc... It's a natural an unavoidable way that many contributors will take silently when realizing that these kind of sales are eating the credit sales while decreasing their income and, probablaby, decreasing too sites earnings and margins to invest on promotion. This process can last one or two years but, at the end, sub-sites will have mostly sub-images, and a majority of the better photographers will be found elsewhere. And with them will go many costumers.

Average normal number of sales, but different files sold, more old stuff tan usual.

Wow, it's almost impossible to understand, and very strange because, to begin with, prices on euros and sterling pounds in the local front pages are not rigth. Difficult to understand, too, why if people buys a file for any price in the global market (because contributors can be in their countries, but that's a global market), they don't get their cut for the price it got this file, converted to any currency. It would be easier  to understand. In the end, and being Fotolia a company with many buyers in Europe and many photographers in USA, they don't lose anything.

Thanks for your reply, js, but I still don't get it. I mean that if Fotolia comission is 0.27 US dollars, if they pay european contributors in euros it seems that they would convert this comission to euros before paying you in euros, and, so, you would get about 0.16 euros.

I'm just asking, I really don't know.

They sell in dollars and pay in Euros? I mean, if you had done 100 $ in comissions they pay you 100 Euros?

Yu can keyword too in your native language at istock, and disambiguated translation is excellent and effective.

sorry no one will hear at your... thats business.. theire are enough photografers that will work for them... thats only my opinion

I'd have to disagree.  Fotolia is a French company and in France that's how we do business... everybody goes on strike until thing changes.  That's why we have strikes all year long :)

And they did a similar action after the V2 launch and Fotolia took into accounts many suggestions that were made at that time.

Also Fotolia has a large base of unique exclusive photographers because they are the only micro that let you keyword in your native language.  So for those who don't master english that was really appealing.  Now most of these photographers are very angry and already stopped uploading.  Some have even stopped their exclusivity to move there work with other micros.

This petition would just be a common place where everyone could agree that some changes need to happen.

And like Miz said what would be the worst that can happen?  Being ignored?
I think it's worth a shot, if we get a couple thousands signatures that will definitely have some weight.

The only effective way to mend that is vote with your feet. Escape.

i really dont understand why you dont want upload anymore...

Because some peple react when they feel treated badly.

Quote
i have 8.500 pics online and since the subs startet only 2 sub-sales.. normale sales where great... there is really no reason to stop uploading at fotolia.. this month i upload there ca. 600 pics and 550 are approved... so i like fotolia... and there sales

Good for you. Congratulations. You just missed to tell that you are currently earning ~100 credits a day and decided to go exclusive with them in the future (not that this was of any importance but I've read this for so many times now that I was actually missing it).

But please accept that there actually are people who think and act different, who are concerned when they think their agency acts against them and is moving to the wrong direction.

Cheers,
lathspell aka turbopute

8500 images and just 100 credits a day???

General Stock Discussion / Re: Is this a dumb idea?

TFP/TFCD is a common practice in photography all over the world.
...
This argument shares much with giving away your imagery in exchange for credit or mention: just because it's common for people to do it doesn't make it right. By not paying a model you are taking advantage of his/her ego in the same way that the photographer's ego is misused by unscrupulous/cheap photo "buyers".

If you don't believe that it's right to give your work away for free, why is it that you expect someone else to give their work to you for free?

Actually, it's not for free. I charge 600 $ for a book. Actually I use and  prefer to pay, abut 100 $ for a three hours session, and when I do TFP is the model who gets a good deal.

Yes that smells some amount of despair.
