What about FTP? That was the only reason why I quit submitting to SV

Yes - Veer Marketplace will support FTP.

Aaron, after reading this thread, I've registered on Veer's site to become a future contributor, once the site is ready to go of course, will Veer let me know when I can start uploading photos for approval to the site?

Yes - we'll be sure to make it loud and clear to everyone.
Actually, check back here or on the Marketplace Group on Veer Ideas a bit later today - we'll be posting some updates relating to that very question.  ;)

Veer / Re: I am sooo angry with SV/Keen right now!!!

It doesn't make a diff since you're new. Recent SV accounts are not moved to Veer.

Hi Batman -

Just to clarify: we're evaluating all SnapVillage accounts for migration to Veer Marketplace.
We are examining recently created accounts in the same way as all the rest, ensuring that the content and the contributor will be a good fit with Veer Marketplace.

One reason that could be causing confusion:  the most recently accounts (those created in mid-March through today) will be among the last batches reviewed.

To recap (I posted this as a comment on NiagaraGirl's blog last week):
http://niagarashooter.blogspot.com/2009/04/brian-from-snapvillage-responds.html

1) We've been reviewing all accounts and this process will be wrapped up soon. Existing Snap accounts are not automatically grandfathered in. Not all existing Snap accounts will be transferred but most will.

2) Now that weve almost reviewed all the accounts, contributors will be hearing from us by mid-May at the latest. Most people have not been informed yet of their account status in relation to being transferred to VMP.

3) We need to close down submissions on SnapVillage because once we freeze the SnapVillage collection, we will be able to efficiently extract and transfer SnapVillage imagery and accounts to Veer Marketplace.

We'll be in touch soon with more updates.  Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,

- Brian

Hi Guys,

Aaaaargh!!!  Earlier this week, SV received my CD of photos but is refusing to accept them because of their cut off deadline of April 30th.

Why is SV is allowing uploads of photos to their website until midnight tonight but refuses to accept my CD of photos that arrived earlier this week???

I am really, really pissed!!!  >:(  >:(  >:(

In addition... it appears that KEEN will not be accepting everyone.  So if you have a SV portfolio... that does not mean it will be listed on KEEN.

Aaaaaaargh!!!!!

Cricket

Hi Cricket -

Apologies for the frustration caused by the cutoff date.
As I mentioned on the phone earlier - we received your submission of 840 images yesterday afternoon, we're doing our best to get as much of it  as we can into the system for you tonight.

We saw an uptick in submissions via CD and DVD recently - those files were ahead of your batches in the queue (we process CD and DVD submissions in a first-in, first-out order).

You're also welcome to upload new submissions directly to the website until the upload system is cutoff.  The dev team will hold off by a few hours to give folks a bit of extra time -  the upload system will now go dark at 9am Seattle time, tomorrow the 1st (pushed back from 12:01am).

One clarification though - SnapVillage is transitioning into Veer, not Keen.
Neither SnapVillage nor Veer have anything to do with Keen Images.

Best,

- Brian

Hi, if I understand it well, Veer is about to start. Ok, I applied to join few weeks ago, but recieved no response yet... Is it normal? Thanks

Hi Fyletto -

If you completed the Product Submission Questionnaire on Veer.com, it can sometimes take us a little while to get back to you.
I'll check for yours and respond to you directly ASAP.

Thanks,

Veer / Re: Attila at SnapVillage?
« on: April 23, 2009, 19:58 »
Ok, maybe "Attila" is a bit of an exaggeration.

But certainly things aren't the way they used to be at SV. Maybe they are moving into Veer mode?

Used to be, you'd upload a bunch to SV, wait 2-3 weeks, and then get all of them approved (unless you included a part of a building, in which case you'd get a rejection for lack of PR).

So I wanted to improve my chances of getting moved to Veer Marketplace by uploading some of my latest & greatest images. I uploaded 10 images, and in less than 2 hours, they were all reviewed.  :)

But to my dismay and disbelief, 6 of the 10 were rejected! Yikes! Like I said, not the good, old "we take it all" SnapVillage anymore.

So what's the story? Of the 6 rejection reasons, 1 was for "multiple technical problems".  I guess the reviewers at SV are better at discovering technical problems than the iStock inspectors, as this one was just accepted yesterday at iStock. You'd think that with multiple problems, though, iStock should've been able to find at least one of them (they seem pretty good at it, IMO).  ;D

All the other 5 rejections were for "lack of commercial appeal" or something like that. One of those 5 has been on iStock for just under a month, and has sold 5 times. Not bad to me. Another has sold only once, but apparently it has at least a little appeal.  ;D Two of the others are too new to judge (a week or less), but the last is over a month old without a sale. So I suppose that one doesn't have much appeal.

But to me this is as bad as DT's "too well-covered or too specific" rejection. C'mon, guys: If it's technically ok why not give it a chance? Delete it after a year if it hasn't sold once. You'll end up with a more diverse collection of images, and you won't piss off contributors by arbitrarily (and in some cases, incorrectly) rejecting images that may sell better than you think.

Hi KB -

While we may not always agree 100%, I'm always willing to give images another shake. ;)

Thanks for the feedback on the rejection messaging.
PM or email me with the details of the rejections if there are any files you want me to take a second look at.

Not too happy about this. I have spent lots of time uploading five photos at a time to Snapvillage. Its going to suck if my photos are not transferred over, even more so because I have been getting regular sales at Snapvillage.

Travis, if you are getting sales at SV then I doubt you are one of the ones they will be letting go of. I imagine they will be cutting accounts that are inactive or else have low quality images that don't sell.  Seems logical, anyway...

Good point Lisa, I hope your right.

Hi Travis
Hi Lisa

Lisa is correct - while we are primarily looking at portfolios and reviewing content for suitability for a higher aesthetic and technical standard - we are also considering what has and hasn't sold, and account activity/inactivity.

Hi All -

If you've got additional questions on the transition process, I posted some additional comments on the transition over on NiagaraGirl 's blog that might answer your questions:

http://niagarashooter.blogspot.com/2009/04/brian-from-snapvillage-responds.html

The gist:

Hard to chase a moving target as long as the upload system on Snap is still active. ;)

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info.  I have never uploaded to SV.  Been waiting to submit directly to Veer.  Please keep us posted when that is possible.  :)

Will do. We'll be updating all of you with additional details (including launch dates) soon.

Brian, please check the poll I started: asking contributors their favourite websites..

I know the winner(s) already.. The more you are loved, the more support you will get..

You don't need individual opinions.. That poll will show you which policies are loved the most..

thanks cidepix!  sweet!

I'll go check that now.

Veer / Re: Continue Uploads to SV?
« on: April 22, 2009, 14:40 »
Just got this message from Snapvillage...  It looks like if you have files to send, better send them in soon!

Quote
Dear SnapVillage Contributor,

Its been just over two months since we announced our plans to roll SnapVillage into a new microstock offering on Veer named Veer Marketplace. Weve been moving at a rapid pace as we get closer to the mid year launch when our upload capabilities will be live.

The next stage requires that we stop accepting new uploads to SnapVillage. We have scheduled this to happen on Friday, May 1. This means you can continue to upload images through April 30th, but after that youll have to hold on to your images for a few weeks while we transfer the rest of the SnapVillage content over to Veer Marketplace. While we cant take new uploads, youll still be able to access your SnapVillage account as you always have and during this transition, SnapVillage buyers will continue to be able to license your content.

We launched Phase 1 of Veer Marketplace in late February with 140,000 images that are now available for purchase on veer.com and we are still slated for a full launch mid year with contributor upload capabilities and credit-based pricing and subscriptions. Well be in touch with you over the next few weeks with an update on the Phase 2 launch date which will include the go-live date for the upload features on Veer Marketplace, submission guidelines and details about the new Veer Marketplace agreement and royalties.

And just to help clarify something I'm sure many of you have questions about:  We will soon be sending out news to many many folks informing them whether or not their images will be automatically ported over to Veer Marketplace from SnapVillage.

We've got a big backlog of these to push out - most folks have not heard one way or the other.
Unless your account was newly created within the last 1.5 months, you'll hear by May 9th. If your account on Snap was newly created within the last 1.5 months, you'll hear by mid-May.

Veer / Re: Preference for how vectors are priced?
« on: April 17, 2009, 18:08 »
Hi Brian,

I'd like to add the idea of offering the vectors and their jpg versions. Jpg versions of an image could be priced the same as the photos currently up at marketplace xs, s, m, l, xl, xxl. The vector version costing a bit more than the xxl jpg. I think this would give buyers a wide range of options depending on what they need the image for.

Good one Randomway - I meant to include that in the post. I'll edit it now.

Thanks!

Hi Brain,

Is everybody welcome at VEER or must I stay put in SV,  must I wait for an invitation ???
BTW would SV still excist nex year or what is the plan???

Gr KC

Hi Kaycee -

While not all accounts will be selected for automatic transfer from SnapVillage to Veer Marketplace, everyone is welcome to sign-up and apply to be a contributor once the site launches.

As I just mentioned in reply to Batman's question - we'll be releasing some updates soon on SnapVillage, the transition and more details about Marketplace.

Veer / Preference for how vectors are priced?
« on: April 17, 2009, 17:28 »
Hi MSG'ers:

Do you have a preference for how .eps vector files should be priced on a microstock platform?
A few common setups that other microstock sites use:

a) tiered by file complexity/depth/layers (some vectors cost x, some cost y, and some cost z)
b) flat (vectors cost x)
c) vector is another file size option (vectors have rasterized JPEG versions, .eps vector file is priced equivalent to XXL size JPEG)
d) have another idea? (describe it)

I know that many of you here are more photo-centric, but I think this is a question you all should weigh in on.

We've got an answer in place here, but I want to confirm that we're in alignment with what works for you.

Your input = helpful+awesome   :D

[ edited to include important option that I forgot  - thanks Randomway! ]

yes, i also like to ask Brian if buyers  with Veer are looking at our images that are still with SV . i posted this question in the other topic but he did not reply . maybe he did not see my question.

Hi Batman -

I did miss your question in the other thread.

I'm not sure I totally understand the question - do you mean are we actively pushing Veer customers to buy images on Snap?

As a whole, Veer buyers aren't necessarily looking at SnapVillage (or vice versa). The sites aren't being cross-promoted.
While it's possible/likely there is some crossover in the customer base, they are separate sites as far as buyers go.

We're going to have more news soon regarding where things are at, and what's coming next. The announcements may alleviate your concerns.

Let me know if I am on the right track with your question. Happy to take another stab at it if I am off the mark.

Best,

Brian,

Should we continue uploading to SV? Assuming we are currently accepted to VMP will the new uploads to SV get transfered over?

Peter

Hi Zeus -

Yes, content uploaded now will still get transferred over.

We'll have more news on this topic soon.

Will I need to sign up at Veer before my Snap pics are transfered or will an account be set up automatically? Any idea on the time frame for transfers to be complete?

Hi tsmarkley -

We encourage you to go ahead and sign-up on Veer.com now so you can participate on Veer Ideas and the Marketplace Group. But if you choose not to - an account will be set up automatically.

While the account transitions are ongoing - we'll be announcing further details of the transition (including more specific timing) soon.

Zeus is correct.

Until the transition is complete later this spring/summer and Veer Marketplace is fully up-and-running, sales reports will be delivered once a month. Once the site is fully functional contributors will have live access to sales/stats/royalty info.

Beyond the obvious (# of sales / views / et al) - are there particular stats and reporting metrics that you find most helpful?
