When someone started a thread on istock about her 16 Million downloads, she was on the first place on the charts, and she wasn't anonymous. Cool screenshot to have, if she took one.

BTW, I suppose it's due to all the other problems istock is having right now that her profile page is still showing the 16 Million. Also, I like the fact that she started a thread in the help forum herself.

Gosh! So does George Clooney!  :D

Some people just like to behave like little dictators in the threads they start.  ::) You demanded relevant comments, now look how many people have broken the rules you set up, and how many "irrelevant" posts you've ended up with by misbehaving.  ;D

Payout requested on March 29th, received today (two weeks), through MB.  Not bad!

Me too!

It's not "LOL" at all as it's inconvenient. Not a huge problem, but unpleasant.

Well the thread did get quite "LOL" actually (that's the main one of the five threads that were started). And it seems to be fixed now anyway.

Microstock News / Re: Getty Images to aquire 123RF!!
« on: April 01, 2010, 11:25 »
Didn't getty acquire crestock LAST April 1st?  They have a history of this. lol

No, it was crestock acquiring istock last year or the year before. It was on crestock's front page for a while, and istock threatened to sue them.

I requested payout on February 26th and got paid on March 18th (I use moneybookers). On the German Fotolia forum one of the managers of Fotolia Germany confirmed that they had got behind with payments via paypal and said that they check every payout manually. Don't believe that because it's becoming a regular thing to have to wait for payout for about three weeks (fourth time in a row that I have waited three weeks), regardless of whether you are with moneybookers or paypal.

They are having server problems and said on their forums that they expect to have fixed it today. There's a thread about it in the "Help" section.

Oh, well that's a different set of questions! These you do have to answer to get accepted. You should be able to answer them yourself if you're serious about istock. Is your English the problem? Istock's site is available in a variety of languages, if that's any help.

Adobe Stock / Re: Exclusive image sales at Fotolia?
« on: March 18, 2010, 13:46 »
About 39 percent of my port on Fotolia is exclusive. As they seem to be strongest in Europe, I tend to put anything that I assume is too specifically Europaen to sell well on istock or Shutterstock exclusive there. Also, all my Christmas images and anything that the other two rejected. For some strange reason, most of my sales for exclusive images are L or XL, so that makes it really worth it, especially as I am priveleged as I am paid in Euros. For all exclusive images, I set the starting price at 2 credits, I'm thinking of switching some of them to 3 credits though.

That's nothing that is evaluated - it's just for your profile. It's more of a sort of fun thing - you don't even have to answer those questions.  ;)

Adobe Stock / Re: Best sellers
« on: March 13, 2010, 01:56 »
I think that out of the pool of images with about one to four downloads that qualify for the lower ranks of "best-sellers" on a specific day, the images that appear in that category are chosen at random. Also, you have to take into account that the best-sellers are counted seperately for each national site. So if one of your images sold four times on one day - say once in the US, three times in Turkey, and once in Italy - you might find it in the "best-seller" section on Fotolia Turkey but probably not on Fotolia US.

« on: February 23, 2010, 15:22 »
Good luck with that! There are lots of people here that hate the fact that their images aren't the only ones available!

Yeah - I know.  That's the mentality I'd like to destroy but I know my odds in this industry. I've gotta say there are definitely groups who do it better and succeed because of it.

Which groups would that be?

BTW I just changed my username considering what has been said earlier on in this thread (I was stardust before, so hello again). I always felt really impolite in hiding my identity round here. The only reason I had an alias and didn't give links to my port was that I didn't want to get in trouble with Fotolia, but after reconsidering I don't really want to let them get me down in that way, if you know what I mean.

That poor photographer probably wonders why he has 56 views...when I first looked at it there was only 1...being me. They are probably all from here.

Or maybe he's amongst us here secretly blushing and knowing very well where those views came from.  ;)

When you open "control panel" you'll see a sort of drop down menue called "contributor", and there you'll see "real name". You just switch that to "member name".

Yes, the individual results do seem to vary quite a bit - out of 3000 sales only a single one of mine has ever been refunded, and that was an XS. Other people seem to have lost much much more.

It does quite look like a simple copy-paste mistake - a few of his images in the top row have the same title and keywords as the picture of the tires. Glad that you took the trouble and wrote to support about it.

litifeta, I think of your blog post on dreamstime sometimes. It expressed quite the way that I was feeling, too.

I was quite new to microstock when TheMiz died, and also I'm not a native speaker of English, so I think I can't have appreciated his posts to the full. But a few of his statements have stuck in my mind. One of them being that he didn't upload any image that he was not convinced of 100 percent. Another one being that isolations are a hard job to do - no easy way out, no short cut. I browse through his posts sometimes, and each time I find it really sad to see "offline" on his profile page.

I can fully relate to what his daughter is looking for here. Quite a while after I lost my father I went all the way through Europe visiting people and places to find him, and I loved to hear anything that people had to say about him that I didn't know of. And I only realized what I had been doing when I returned back home, at the time, I thoght I simply was on a vacation to England.

« on: February 04, 2010, 17:16 »
isnt standard procedure for this type of situation

put out statement / press release saying "sorry, we are working on it, just give us a little bit of time."
let things calm and cool down (lots of people wander off quickly)
put out another statement saying "how hard business is / tough market / recession etc, we really value the customers etc (or contributors), and we are working to fix it, here is an (ambigous) solution with lots of spin and buzz words that commits nothing and has loose timeframes...

sorry cynical day today...

Or just hope that the whole thing just blows over or is overcome by other news...

They might have done that just once to often. That strategy won't work forever.

Yes, I think I get what your saying, Donding. The only problem seems to be the difference in currencies which wouldn't really matter that much because you could calculate the difference between Euros or Pounds and Dollars and add it to whatever you'd transfer via paypal. It seems you're desparate to get out of there. I'd be happy to help you get your money (the alternative being fotolia gets 100 % of your earnings). The only thing is that I'm not with paypal but with moneybookers. PM me if you like.

Donding, buying credits to help others out wouldn't work out, you're right. But if I had 60 credits, and you had 40, I could transfer 10 to your account, and we both would be happy. Or, if someone is lightyears away from payout, say they have 10 credits, they could also transfer them to someone with 40 instead of both wasting a total of 50 when they both leave in anger.
