You seem to have understood the question at least! That's something! ;)

Ich glaube, Szakaly, Du bist dort, wo ich her bin. Und umgekehrt!  :D

Und wo bist Du ursprnglich her, Eyedesign, wenn ich fragen darf?

Ich komme aus New York.

Ah ja, jetzt erkenne ich Dich auch wieder - ich kenne Dich aus dem deutschen istock-Forum.  :)

Leaf, my link leads to an empty port, and I can't find the box where not to put "#". Or is this a different problem?

I'll save Leaf the trouble of answering but it's a small thing that you did wrong. You entered your user name instead of your user number. :D

Mmh. Daft question: Where do I see my user number? The url only contains my user name.

No, I do this full-time now. And I'm not a chef, I had nothing to do with food professionally before. I don't even enjoy cooking.  ;)

Thanks! Most important: no flash from the front! Even more important than that is the styling, I think. I'm sure styling is my strongest point. My lighting is even, meaning it has no additional highlights or anything that that would make a shot look more interesting. But I think it suits microstock-style. It takes a lot of time to arrange the props and style the food until it's all just right. Also, I spend a lot of time setting up shooting plans well in advance to get the most out of the ingredients, and then it's shopping and then changing round all the plans because one important ingredient is missing or not quite to my liking. Second best just won't do! Most of the food in my port was actually edible, but sometimes I just don't fancy slices of cold duck or half-done vegetables...
I'm so in love with food photography! I could go on and on and on  :D

Gosh! No, I don't go that far back with Fotolia...  :D
But I do still have the impression that there are many awful food pictures accepted, some from mass contributors that really spoil some of the search results. I wish they were stricter, even if it meant saying farewell to my acceptance rate.

Thanks, Mat, but looking back, they did accept quite a few not so great shots from the early days.  :D Unfortunately, some of them are still selling quite well, so I don't have the heart to delete them...

They seem to love food, my acceptance rate there has been 99 % for a long time now.  :D And the one percent they do reject is mostly due to similars (where I find them even worse than dreamstime).

Dreamstime.com / Re: how to terminate the exclusivity with DT?
« on: October 17, 2010, 23:09 »
You might want to check out the terms and conditions of exclusivity on the site:

http://www.dreamstime.com/terms.php#contributors

"an Exclusive Contributor may terminate their status as an Exclusive Contributor with thirty (30) days prior written notice to Dreamstime.com. If an Exclusive Contributor terminates this Agreement prior to the passage of six (6) months, Dreamstime.com reserves the right to recover all commission payments made to the Exclusive Contributor prior to the termination of Exclusive Contributor status. These payments include the upload bonus received after each accepted submission and the extra percentage earned by exclusive contributors."

And regarding the specifics, I'd clear them by creating a support ticket.

Neither is that the point of RM nor has it been gotten rid of.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock delaying PayPal til Friday
« on: October 12, 2010, 14:29 »
I'm not with paypal, but all these glitches at istock are really starting to wear me out. There's something new nearly every single day, not to mention the permanent shortcomings, like new images showing up after 24 hours. Which other agency copes with their new material like that? Or is it a speciality of the market leader?

91
Thanks for posting this, RacePhoto. And Thanks Mr. Locke for this paragraph in your blog, makes me feel a bit better but confirms me in my decision to leave istock in January at the same time.

"For Getty, who basically has no production costs to speak of, to steal 85% from people who wholly own their own content is just unbelievable.  I really wouldnt blame all independents for pulling their work from iStock and concentrating on sites that pay you a fairer amount.  Because with the new collection taking up search return space and all, youd likely make less anyways in the upcoming days.  Im really sorry for my peers in this regard."

Istock's my second best agency, but the returns on Fotolia are 70 % of my income, paying me 31 % (if I were exclusive there it would be 49 % - completely different spheres compared to istock). The loss will be hard to make up for nonetheless.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Are winter themes selliing yet?
« on: October 10, 2010, 23:16 »
I have no general winter, but quite a few Christmas images (mostly food), and I've noticed that they start picking up with a few ELs in July/August (probably for Christmas cards, I suppose), and the sales grow from September on, October/early November being the peak. And they sell right up till Christmas. This holds mostly for Fotolia, where a lot of those images are exclusive. I've heard many people say that Christmas images sell all the year round, but I haven't made that experience - January till July mine sit on the shelf.

Interesting that you had Polylooks in your list, perry - they are closing at the end of the year. They sent out an email to contributors today (I'm not a contributor, so I can't post the text).

Yes... the Polylooks disaster was the thing that made me write my post... :)

oooops, it didn't sound to me as if you knew already.  :)

I've decided to pull my port by the end of december. I know that they won't notice that at all, but I just can't let an agency help itself to 84 percent of what my images sell for, and there's no way they will have me struggeling along to hit some obscure floating target that might give me 17 or 18 percent.

96
Get your point, FD, but they did actually somewhere in the current thread announce a dialogue "back and forth" which people are still waiting for (not that I believed it would ever happen).

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Istock Second "Explanation" to Contributors
« on: September 13, 2010, 18:46 »
Here's the funniest, and most accurate account of what has actually happened that I have read, posted by Kelvinjay - fourth post down:

http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=253522&page=77

Hopefully it won't be a problem if I repost it here?

"You don't seem to be taking the hint. They've F'd us in the A, rolled over, farted and are reaching for their cigarettes. They don't want some cosy post coital chat. They're just hoping you will realise how embarrassing the whole situation is, take the couple of dollars they've left on the bedside table, get dressed and do the walk of shame."

Must be the best post I have ever read over there! How bang on can an analogy be!

Mat, all the facts you have mentioned can be changed by fotolia within the wink of an eye, and we all know it. Other people were singing the same song as you are singing now about istock when fotolia came around the corner with the "You are great, and we are growing, so down goes your commission. But thank you, we are growing and you are great, if you do not like the changes, stuff it".

Averil, I might have trod on your foot with a comment about the steel cage and promotional use of images a while ago. Actually, although all that is not up my street at all, it's nice to see you enjoying yourself so much over there (I do pop in and take a look sometimes). And thanks for explaining.  ;)
