DT has been very slow for me these past months... My ranking is: SS, IS, DT, FL, Yay, 123RF, CanStockPhoto

Hmm... I've been down that road as well. This image (http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/transportation/6324486-old-maltese-bus-1952.php?id=6324486) was initially rejected due to keywords "clear sky", "car", "vintage" :(

With so many contributing these days SS can afford to be fussy.

This looks like the future - It's going to push us all to raise our quality standards.

There is a limit how far the quality can be raise with only 25 cents per image...

Got a newsletter e-mail from Yay, in Norwegian

Here is and interesting link to historic photo montages to demonstrate editoria no-nos: http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/farid/research/digitaltampering/?utm_source=streamsend&utm_medium=email&utm_content=1380252&utm_campaign=YAY%20Micro%20nyhetsbrev%20uke%2038

EDIT: I removed the content of the e-mail from this post on a friendly request from Yay.

Yaymicro / Re: That does it. Closing account.
« on: September 19, 2008, 05:59 »
I am uploading everything to Yay as well as other sites. The most time is spent in processing images. Once the image is processed, it is a negligible extra to upload to 2-3 more sites.

If you look at my portfolio and sort by "oldest first", you can see which files got me in (8 of the first ones): http://www.shutterstock.com/gallery-93486p1.html
You can also do the same with other people's portfolios to get the feel of what passes for the iintial upload.

A valid question. I consider "artsy" everything not isolated or representing a single clear concept, something that you would feel inclined to frame and hang on the wall.
"Before the tempest", "Bark of a tree" and "On the highway" would probably not come through.
"Fanfare and flashlight" might have a bit busy background...
The shots with the children, the fruit, balloons in the sky, "feed me" might work out...

« on: September 12, 2008, 08:20 »
Hard to say. I tried to upload "atrsy" images on my initial applications and they didn't get through. Then I followed an advice from this forum to upload something simple and avoid any hint of what might even remotely be considered as noise and I got in with 8 of 10. That was on my 4th attempt. So, try uploading some simple isolated objects and plain concepts and maybe you'll have some luck...

PS: Don't give up - they are more than worth the initial frustration.

Shutterstock.com / Re: TIFF vs JPEG
« on: September 10, 2008, 06:39 »
Thanks, Leaf. I should have done more reading as well. :)

Under "Enhanced License TIFF" the have the following text: "TIFFs are converted from JPEGs", which turns out to be a link (discovered it now by accident as it is not marked as such). This link bring one to FAQ with the following text:

Quote
What is a TIFF?
A TIFF is an uncompressed file format that is available only to our Enhanced License subscribers. Our TIFF files are converted from the same JPEGs that are available under the Standard License. We use the JPEG format to store images in our database.

So, yes, there will be no TIFF uploads from me... :)

0% OD at SS, but then again 0% subsales at IS :)

Shutterstock.com / TIFF vs JPEG
« on: September 10, 2008, 05:25 »
I am in the process of uploading my portfolio to SS and already have 150 files on-line with 400 more to go (I upload in 20 file batches).
I have just discovered that it is possible to upload TIFF as well as JPEG and that EL would then allow buyers to get a true TIFF instead of the one converted from JPEG, possibly increasing a chance of an EL sale...

- I wonder if there is anyone here who does TIFF uploads and if yes, does it help with nailing ELs?
- If you are not uploading in TIFF, but knew about the option, what's your reason for still uploading in JPEG?
- Ultimately, is it worth re-uploading already approved files in TIFF (my workflow includes TIFF as an output from NEF processing, where I do the final tunings on the 16-bit TIFFs in PS)?
- Is it possible to upload 16-bit TIFFs?

123RF / Re: How to delete or edit a photo at 123
« on: September 09, 2008, 05:54 »
That's the most cumbersome way to edit photo info!!! Why can't there be a link from a photo's page, like on every other site I am in???
I don't remember which batch the file I want to edit was in, so I have to go through all 400 images in all batches to locate the one I need??!!!

Hey, can someone use my referral link and beat me in the number of sales? :)

I never managed to get any referrals on any of the sites I am in.... :( So I am a bit envious of people who talk about referrals...

8,6,7,1,2,3,3
This is my sales count since the start of September. the last two numbers are from this week-end.
Oh, and it helps to post on "Show me..." threads: for the second time now I had a sale of a photo, which never sold before, minutes after posting it on such a thread!

CanStockPhoto.com / Trowing the towel
« on: September 02, 2008, 09:07 »
I am about to give up on CanStock. Only 12 sales over the last year and a half, and now the proportion of rejection, which try to rival Fotolia's. Almost all my files (28) from the last shoot were accepted by IS, SS, ST and 123RF; Fotolia accepted 11, which is a record. Now, CS have not finished reviewing all the files, but I have got now a string of rejections of "Out of focus" or "Not unique enough" for files which were gladly approved by the others...

Rejections, combined with non-existent sales are about to make me pull the plug and delete my portfolio from CS (even loosing $7.25). Would anyone want to dissuade me?

« on: September 01, 2008, 10:37 »
Well, I joined Yay and 123RF at the same time, one month ago with the same initial portfolio (427 files on 123RF and 600 on Yay were accepted) . I now have 3 sales in 123RF, netting me $3.05. I also have 3 sales in Yay, netting me 4 (which is approx. $5.85). So Yay is doing very well for me, thank you very much. :)

Funniest thing is when I got series of let's say 4 photos and all of then got rejected because they are to similar ;-) I think one should be accepted to make their statement true ;-)

I noticed that too on a couple of occasions, so i submit such photos at intervals. However, my last week's batch was completely rejected, save for 5 photos, two of which came in almost similar pairs and were not the best of the batch...

« on: August 20, 2008, 14:18 »
Congratulations, Claudia! Editorials are rare (at least I did not have any in all of the sites I am with).
Rene, yes, you can delete any photo at any time there - no restrictions.

I just discovered that the minimum payout level is 30, which looks very realistic to achieve...

(FYI: 572 shots in my portfolio)
