I'm trying to find something that makes sense to explain this, or I'm going to start thinking there's a hacker with a fake credit card out there downloading all the images he can until the hack is caught and shut down, and all these downloads are removed from our accounts.
I can't explain the high number of ELs, but a hacker buying EL makes no sense. If he can get an image with a fake credit card, what use would be an 'enhanced license' for a fraudulently obtained image? He does not get any more rights than he already has - namely none whatsoever.

"For the first time, were offering customers in certain markets the option to purchase one Shutterstock image download at a time."
I would like to know what "certain markets" they mean. I hope that includes me. I would love to have access to that huge library without having to buy a package!
If you go to shutterstock.com you will see the option on the front right... 1 high res $19.
Not available in Europe, it seems. Or at least not in my area of Europe... Still interesting though.

Anyone else seeing a rise in these? Something must be triggering the increase. Could SS be promoting ELs more heavily? Should I be concerned that these aren't legitimate sales (bad credit cards, etc?)
Yes, I got 22 ELs this month. Very unusual. But I think they are legit.

In a strange way I wish they would put me back at white ranking.
Be careful what you wish for...

Well, not convinced. I remain out.

Accept Photoshop .psd files for illustrations (in addtion to .jpg, .eps, .ai, .png). That would be very interesting for me.

IS is falling the fastest among the big 4, but FT has the lowest traffic now. This confirms my suspicion that FT might be in serious trouble.

Alexa.com shows iStock going down but ShutterStock going up. Not sure which stats are correct.
I think Google has much better data.

I bet they are referring e.g. to Photodune, since they never seemed to be interested in DT's or IS's pricing.
Ah, Photodune... That is possible. I too was wondering which sites they were referring to.

the more curious is that they are serious about making money, I havent received this email (not far from silver)
Hmm... This is interesting. Is it only going to certain levels? Gold and above?
Everyone reply with:
1) Did you get the letter: YES / NO 2) What level are you?
For the record, I got it, and I'm Emerald
It doesn't matter - it's on their website: http://us.fotolia.com/Info/Contributors/GeneralInformation

I can't help but think that this is a desperate measure...
I'll make sure to request payouts whenever possible.

Your site's privacy, vendor reliability and trustworthiness rankings are very low (marked red) in the WOT Firefox addon rankings. Will not be visiting the site and suggests that other members also rather stay away from it.
PS. Here is a link to the rating system and the site's info: http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/graphicgravy.com
Hmmm... it seems that this WOT site has some trustworthy problems itself - based upon the explanation of their ranking system I find it highly doubtful.

Did you get a reply, Karimala? I would be interested to know how they handle this.

Is there a demand for the more traditional hand-drawn clip art? I still mean vector, but with cartoony hand-drawn lines.
Sure. I think there is a big demand. But you should check the agencies to find topics which are not well covered.

did you stop uploading to DT or delete your portfolio when they cut commissions ?
Of course I did. I'm no-one's doormat. I deleted all and left one image in case they respond to people crying out and so no one takes my ID. It's a vector so now I will upload my crappiest JPG and delete that one too because it's popular.
Did you really? I can still see your portfolio on DT with all 122 images.

At least the Shutterstock license explicitly does not allow to use images on Cafepress: http://www.shutterstock.com/licensing.mhtml?type=enhancedUnder 'Restrictions': YOU MAY NOT: 7. Use or display any Image on websites or in connection with any service designed to sell or induce sales of "print on demand" products using or incorporating Image(s), including, by way of example only, postcards, mugs, t-shirts, posters, giclee prints, wallpaper, artwork and other items, this includes custom designed websites as well as sites such as Cafe Press (i.e. www.cafepress.com).
I haven't checked the other agencies.

I found three of my images, with "Baylor" sign on them. I translated the site in English, and it's saying something about some illnesses... I don't have an idea what this Baylor is, and why it's embedded in my images...

This "Baylor" seems to be the name of a clinic. Perhaps there are using your images and the blog author just copied them.

Shutterstock is one I'd like to try, but their application process is a PITA, I have tried twice, with every single file being rejected both times. I uploaded proven sellers and still flat out rejected. Of course, then you have to wait a month to apply again.
That surprises me. Shutter used to be easy to get in for vector artists. What exactly were the rejection reasons?

I think he intends for more than just selling his own images. Here is why: - in his job ad he mentions vectors, although so far he is not really known for his vector skills
- he is building his own framework for the site
- he is hiring former agency employees
All this would be overkill if he only wanted to sell his 40000+ images (which is not really that much for a website) directly to customers.
