Canon / Re: 60D??
« on: July 21, 2010, 14:35 »
Nah... They rock enough with 5DMkII and 550D... They will not need any new model until Nikon catches up...

You think? But Canon currently has no decent offering at around the $1100 mark.
It's the Rebels around $800, then the 7D around $1700.
Surely they need to introduce an upgrade to the dismal 50D?

I don't feel that... I had choice to buy 5DMkII or 550D and gone for 550D. Not so much difference for the price especially in video ;-)

LOL!!!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Ego(sta)tistical Question

Sales are average for me but I thought they would be higher. July has a lot of national holidays though (Canada, USA and France at least) and many people are taking their summer break off work in July up here in Canada. I can't really compare to last year since I just turned exclusive.

Here's a suggestion to a book I have not read: http://www.kelbytraining.com/product/the-adobe-photoshop-cs5-book-for-digital-photographers.html

I DID read his Lightroom for Digital Photographer book and it was a great way to make the transition from Aperture to Lightroom. My guess is his Photoshop book is probably as good. Scott Kelby's book are easy to read. He's not too formal and has a good sense of humor.

PS: it's Zack, not Zach.

I'll keep you informed Lisa and Cathy :)

I guess I chose the right month to make my move. I knew it would be my last month because I deleted my portfolios on different agencies so I could apply for exclusivity on the 24th (was stuck in DT to the 23rd). So I knew june would be bad and probable july and august too but I have a lot of new stuff to upload to IS so it might compensate a bit for the move.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Canon T2i/550D very popular
« on: June 21, 2010, 16:58 »
Instead of the kit lens, get the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 which is soooo much better. It's a very good lens for the price. Sharp and with very low chromatic aberrations.

Quick question Freedom. Where did you find alll the Fotolia affiliates? I closed FT last week after erasing all my images. I'm just waiting on a couple of sales for payout at 123RF and my photos are locked until June 24th at DT but I deleted almost all of them. I'm keeping SS open until the end. So hopefully, on June 24th, I'll delete all I have left at DT, click the little box to opt out of SS and I should have deleted my 123RF files at the beginning of june. All the other sites are now closed or the photos are deleted since a week or two.

Do you think I missed anything?

interesting move. I wonder if the other agencies will follow. The good side of being relatively a small company is you can react quickly to new markets like this.

3 sales in may for me

Really interesting concept Jonathan. I checked some of the photos and they are really beautiful. I will check the collection more and will keep my eyes (and mind) open. I'm usually more a portrait photographer but it's always interesting to explore new avenues.

I guess I must be lucky because IS is heading for a BME for me (without EL too). It's nice because I decided to go exclusive there in july.

They might be in trouble but this is soooo funny. Good jab from the Tories, I guess DUP will lose some points over this.

I'm running a paperless office for over 4 years now in my day job. That's great for the environment and that's great for less storage needed. That tool would be great to do the same thing for photography. No MR to keep around in files, no need to print a release, sign it, then scan it back in the computer which is ridiculous when you think about it.

Unfortunately, the word on the iStock forum is that you can't use them with iStock since they don't accept digitized signature. They say it's not legal which is strange since it seems legalized in Canada. Since about 7-8 years ago (at least), filling form for the government is done online and you digitally sign just by clicking and typing agree or donfirm (all my taxes are done online now). Even renewing my driver's licence, I had to actually sign on a digitizer instead of sign a form. So I don't understand why they won't accept it or where they get their legal advice.

Adobe Stock / Are you new photos selling at Fotolia?
« on: March 17, 2010, 17:47 »
I didn't upload anything between august and november last year. Now, when I look at what sells, only my old photos are. Everything I uploaded since november don't sale (not many before this month though). I was wondering if that's just me or if it is a tendancy there.

Are you new photos selling at all at Fotolia?

Thanks

Stupid question but is it illegal vs stock photography or simply immoral? I know that faking an identity is illegal and so is scamming people but is using a stock photography for a profile picture against the terms of service of agencies? Just curious!

123RF / Re: how can you tell which image sold
« on: March 15, 2010, 21:29 »
Go to the Sell Image menu then click on Download. Chose the month you want to see and click View.

48
That's still 7k images a year. How many contributors produce more than 7k images a year? Is Yuri producing that much yet?

But seriously, I don't understand their move (unless their reviewers are really overwelmed).

Computer Hardware / Re: Online storage - does anyone use one?

http://www.backblaze.com/

I do not use it but I heard very good reviews on them. It's 5$ a month by computer.

Me too. I got my payout today and I can't login to StockXpert anymore. I did delete all my photos manually last week as was ask in a previous email I received.
