Microstock Charts / Re: Introducing Microstock Charts
« on: March 12, 2010, 10:53 »
Thanks Lee, that's a great idea. I registered and will start entering numbers over the next week.

Thanks for the link Leaf, great reading. It's fun to hear people say it like it is really.

Not more than usual for me.

Nice little video Patrick. The only thing I'm surprised is you don't have photo of the guy painting it in your collection? no model release or are they yet to come?

Yaymicro / Re: Who has had sales at YayMicro ?
« on: March 04, 2010, 13:19 »
I haven't received mine either... maybe later today or tomorrow.

As for regular sales, it's dismal... 1/month average?

Funny one Matt :)

Here is a response from Dreamstime:

"Thank you for contacting us. We would need the proper legal documentation that the account rights were given to the other person. This can only be done after a death has taken place."
Kind Regards,
NAME
Customer Service Manager

MY FOLLOW-UP QUESTION:
"So, just to clarify, you would require a will or some other legal document that explicitly states that it was the deceased's intent to change the account information into the intended survivor's name?
Does this routinely happen?"

ANSWER:
"Yes, we would need the supporting legal documents for this, such as a will.  In the history of Dreamstime, it has only happened once so far."
Kind Regards,
NAME
Customer Service Manager

That is almost unbelievable.  Only ONE contributor has died over all these years
I'm wondering if there should not be a way to file documents with the agency, instructing them what should be done with our images upon our death.

Dreamstime dates from 2003 (?) so all those years = 6-7 years... I sure hope I won't be dead in another 6-7 years.

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT in trouble?
« on: January 06, 2010, 18:56 »
At least subscription at DT helps take the photo to a higher level so I can live with that. And 1 subscription sale = 1 sale at DT contrary to another agency where it takes you 4 sub to make 1 sale.

I'm also happy to see that the new levels are now live. Thanks Achilles :)

Canon / Re: Canon 5D Mark III 3 - Rumor Page :)
« on: December 16, 2009, 07:34 »
Canon will make annoucement about new products in mid-january. It might be early for a 5D mark III though but they should announce the 60D and 1Ds Mark IV.

Send a cease and desist letter and ask him to remove under 10 days or else you'll sue him for 10,000$. If he doesn't comply, sue him for 10,000$ or more. Copyrights are important and should be enforce.

If you have any antiques or uncommon objects, I'd start with that. Good luck.

Canon / Re: Canon Announces EOS 7D
« on: September 01, 2009, 10:31 »
It's not a surprised that they went with the APS-C sensor (it's a new sensor btw, supposed to handle the noise better). For me, the 7D is to the sports/wildlife shooters what the 5D is to the Portrait/Wedding/Product shooters.

You have high framerate, a new AF system that looks very good and 2 digic IV processors. That screams wildlife and sports.

At this price range, it will compete with the D300.

I think they chose well for the number too because I don't see it as an evolution of the xxD line but as a completely new type of body. Read the specs ;P

Canon / Re: 300mm f/4 IS vs 400mm f/5.6
« on: August 31, 2009, 08:03 »
The part about smoother bokeh in outdoor portraits: why not go with a 85mm f/1.8 or f/1.4 or the beautiful 135mm f/2? Can't get any smoother than with those lens

Canon / Re: Worth the Upgrade?
« on: August 31, 2009, 06:14 »
I'd suggest you wait because Canon released news earlier this summer about a new stabilisation system and they said it would be especially good in macro lens so the rumor is they will replace the 100mm by the end of the year.

67
Personnally, I would take a 10-20 (or something around 17-50 if you don't have a 10-20) and the 85mm f/1.8 and I would not bring the battery pack. A small tripod or a Gorilla Pod.

It all comes down to probability. How many chances you have to see a rare bird or animal that you want to photograph (you would need a 400m at least) vs how many chances you would encounter great scenics to photograph. While going to play in the great outdoor, the wider is the better for me (I'm not a big fan of bird/animal photography anyway).  The 85mm is fast and lightweight so bring it to take some portraits on the way :)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Istock's NEW model release requirements
« on: August 26, 2009, 11:36 »
What a PITA it will be. Needing a release for each picture of my 4 or 6 years old kids is so dumb. At least if it could be 1 release per year. Not like I could sue myself for selling a picture of my own kid since I'm the one signing the release anyway. It's already dumb that I need a witness to co-sign my kids releases that I sign myself... once again, am I gonna sue myself?

/sigh

Like any company: adapt or die. You just talk about the falling market due mostly to internet (micro) but you forgot to mention all the new selling opportunities too. In Micro, you need to learn to reduce the cost of making your photos. I'm not doing this full time but I know many who does and are living a nice life.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Awash with images..... but customers?
« on: August 03, 2009, 15:41 »
DT as always been my most stable site and it is still the same. July was a bit better than june and my RPD is around 1.20$ so not that many sub sales for me.

StockXpert.com / Re: Are you still uploading there??
« on: August 03, 2009, 15:39 »
I'll upload to StockXpert as long as it's open. Sales are still good for me there although 40-50% comes from JIU/Photos.com.Even without those though, it would still beat the crappy 123RF and every site that comes below that so why would I stop uploading there?

Upload process is easy and I don't remember the last time they rejected one of my photos.

Bravo encore une fois! et bonne chance pour le temps plein :)

zWell, your maths were better than hers since 100 minutes at 45 is 45$ and not 450$ :)
