of course you haven't Larry ;D

in fact I was serious, I have looked into your eBay profile and you sell indeed a lot of stuff but I have found more gun accessories than pictures, is that why you have made close to 150k $? please enlighten us, I am very interesting in getting that amount of cash, that said I am not willing to sell gun accessories :)

Gun accessories are new for my site. as for my selling info on how I sell images on eBay and earn a nice profit, I found out through much trial and error. The way to do it......... I'm not telling. Sorry.

Also Bigstock Photo will bounce back, they always have in the past. If they have the sub sales that SS may be giving up .... WELL I will stick around to see what good news the future brings to all sellers on BigStock.

Now we are back on subject.

I understand but in fact you aren't hiding anything, the same nickname you ave here you have on eBay and everyone can check what you are selling, what is the big secret?

curious that you are still collecting "cents" at microstock if you are doing large thousands at eBay, if it is so worth why giving it for cents at agencies?
There's probably a big difference between the total amount made with eBay and the profit.  Looking at the prices and that they include postage, there might not be a big profit margin.

There is far more to it than just listing a photo for sale. Sure there is overhead in this as there is in anything else. Why do I still sell on BigStock and DT ..... the images were accepted years ago and the still sell and BigStock and DT both mail checks to me. I just spend the money. Why would I quit them if I am making money somewhere else??

Go ahead and copy how I list on eBay and make some money...... after you loose money for the first year or two. I am one of about 10 photographers on eBay that actually makes money. Price, Keywords, sales, description, return policy, finding BIG wholesale buyers, and about 50 other things need to work for you. Remember there is over a million photos competing against you. Yes, go ahead and give it a shot.

eBay sales for me, from their records:

Sales to date:  $147,129.28
Transactions:  7070
First eBay Sale:  11/23/2002

Sure beats most ways of sitting at a desk and printer and earning some money.

I personally have noticed a large increase in sales on BigStock and at the same time a DROP in money per month with the new sub sales. I don't like subs, but I will stay with Bigstock as I have for over six years. Many months BigStock has been my Best earner, but I do not see that happening anymore with downloads paying .27 cents for most!

An additional note: I have not uploaded anything to anybody for about four years! Reason I earn FAR more selling photos as art on eBay. .... and with far less effort.

-Larry

6
fwiw - DT now offers $.10 per download for images > websized in the free section.  so there's at least some reason to consider letting 4 yr old images into the free section -- compare this with Yay & other sites that pay only $.10 or so on sales thru partner sites

.10 per download is still free and an insult. If it was good enough to pass the review process, it is worth more than a dime. Sub sales at .25 - .35 are bad enough. Why work for free??
-Larry

7
If you have been on DT for 4 or more years I'm sure you have images over 4 years that have never sold. DT will ask you to pay to have them Re keyworded or give them away for free or delete them from DT.

My choice is to delete then as I can see no profit from giving them away.

I guess DT does this to make room for new images ...... But if the were good enough to be approved in the beginning .... Why delete or give them away Now??

If after 4 years they (DT) feels the images are not going to sell ... I can see their point somewhat. But they are wrong about never selling as I have the same images and 1500 more on BigStockPhoto and I have images 4-5-6- years old being sold for the first time every month.

So my question is: What do you do about this (if your a DT member) and why?

Regards,
Larry

About dormancy: In the last two years I've uploaded at most 2 or 3 images per month per site. That's mostly due to my resistance to do work for a dwindling reward schedule. What really surprised me was seeing fewer than expected  reductions in total downloads. I've concluded, at least with my images, that the searches aren't skewed all that much toward recent work. Maybe its just me.

I think that recent or old does not matter ..... if it's good it will sell today and tomorrow. Time means nothing to a good image. Me 2 cents :) -Larry

Thank you all for the input. I've decided to stay put there for now.

Sounds like a good decision.  Hope sales pick up for you - especially over the holiday season :)

Larry, I am curious - you have stopped uploading for over a year and the checks keep coming from DT and BigStock.  What about other sites?  Are you only on those two, or have the royalties from sites like IS, SS,and FT just petered out?

I am only BigStock and DT I quit all other site I was on over a year ago. (Yay, Feture Pix, and Cutcaster.)  Reason I quit them is I figured I might not live long enough to cash out. I was able to cash out on Feature Pix but it took over two years with 2600+ images on site.

I might start uploading again after Christmas this year. The best to ya!

I get a payout every month at BigStock.  They do about the same as Veer, so if you want to reduce your workload, I can see not uploading any more.  But why remove the images you have up?  I only do that when a site takes advantage of me.  And BigStock has never done that.

+1

Bigstock is consistently 4-5% of my monthly income.  That's higher than any other mid tier site, and puts them in 5th place in my earnings.  I guess everyone's experience is different, but I won't be leaving BigStock as long as Ss keeps them open.

+2
A check every month with very few exceptions for the last six or so years. Plus I have not uploaded a single image to any site for over a year and the checks still keep comming from BS and DT.  I'll stick around. -Larry

depressing

You use the word "Depressing" very offten about any site when earnings are mentioned. Yet your linked to "Warmpicture Stock Photos" which is not even on the list of "Low earners" Question: Which site is earning big bucks for you? .... or you would not be putting down other sites with the word "Depressing"

Most of the time on BigStock my sales are one to five a day but 35 a day for just one day (last month) is always welcomed! I have been with BigStock over 6 years and things looked bad for a short while a year or so ago. Now each month is getting better and better and I am able to cash out about once every 4-5 weeks again. I will not give up on them, been there too long to do that.

Image Sleuth / Re: Stolen images by the thousand!
« on: July 23, 2011, 13:39 »
I searched for free photos and got a listing of items - books, physical goods - that didn't seem to have any stolen microstock images on them. I tried changing the categories to "Other stuff" and "Arts and crafts" and that didn't improve things.

If you have some specific suggestion for how to search to find images sold as prints or whatever made you say "by the thousand" perhaps you could help us out by saying.

I went back and checked again and the woman that was giving away my photo ("Ghost House Photo") is no longer on the site. I guess someone got her kicked off. BUT my image remains on the home page. That gal had hundreds if not thousands of images for free. To earn site credits or whatever.

Some photographers are able to contact the ISP and get them to do something about stolen images. I do not know how to do it. I emailed "customer service" many times and never got a single response out of them.

Oh well I guess it is true that every image on the web WILL be stolen many times over.

Any suggestions?

Search for "Free Photos" The thieves give the stolen images new names.

Good luck!

Check and see if your images are being sold and or given away for free on this site. Mine is on the index page "Ghost House" it was stolen from my listings on ebay. (My member ID on ebay is "Lcjtripod"). I have tried to get the site to delete it and the person posting it. No luck, no replies to me at all. On my ebay listings the title of this image is "Haunted House"

I have found many stock photos on their site like Penguins, etc that i know belong to folks on MSG.

Check for yours and if you can close them down .... bless you!

Hey Lisa, you can still do that - I just did (I don't have any old files pending either). You go to http://www.dreamstime.com/oldfiles.php and the last sentence you see before "No images found" contains a link to click on to change the default. Hope that works.

Thanks everyone - this is very helpful!

I click on that link ("Click here to set your default action") and absolutely nothing happens.

Worked for me and thanks!!

Bigstock.com / Re: Unable to request payout at Big Stock
« on: January 04, 2011, 19:31 »
I have had two fraud transactions in the past week at BigStock. The only ones I have had in over a year at BigStock. My last payout request was a couple of weeks ago and I was paid within 24 hours.

For anyone that has requested payout and did not get it to go through, rest assured it will as soon as things get sorted out in the "office" it will.  BigStock is a fair and reliable company I have been with them for six or so years and no problems with payouts ever.

Good riddance Kodachrome!...It took you long enough to finally die!  Ugh I remember those unforgiving days in college...our professors always made us shoot slide film...the most unforgiving of all films, so that we would learn to get perfect exposures the first time, only a half of a stop off and you were pretty much screwed, nowadays you can be off by 3 whole stops and still manage to pull a sellable photo out of your raw file. While Kodachrome did teach me to tediously meter the differences between my shadow and highlights I must say shooting raw makes me much less anxious about my exposures after a big shoot, and I will not miss the whole praying that the labs machines did not have a tiny grain of grit in their machines. I have many rolls of film with that single little scratch from a dirty roller running down the entire length of film rendering slides useless with out serious touch up time...remember that?. I do however miss popping those juicy little gems into the slide projector...slide shows projected on the biggest wall in the house were always the most fun way to review images from a trip.  Photography is seriously much more laid back since digital.  I think of digital as the equivalent of cooking in a microwave as opposed to slide film which is like cooking on a woodstove, pain in the ass not to mention the expense of buying film and having it processed, an 8 gig card is like the equivalent of buying 40 rolls of film....and OMG flash cards are reusable. Microstock would never have existed without the demise of the expense of film and processing.

Your professor was trying to teach you how to shoot like a pro. Accurate exposures. Necessary then and still necessary for top quality pro work. I will miss K'chrome.

Staged? I think not! Unless he has about $4,000.00 to throw away. I have the same lens he has on his hip as seen in my avatar shot. "L" lenses are not cheap!

This month on BigStock has been the best in sales for the last 28 months. I would agree with Lisafx, things are looking up on BigStock. On the other hand DT did less than half of BigStock sales this month.

Hello,

Larry - if you're having technical problems, have you reached out to Support directly?  Any problems that they find out about are immediately forwarded to our technical team and developers for a resolution.  We always encourage people to pursue technical issues through Support, since that keeps us informed and starts the process of creating any necessary fixes.   There may also be some known alternative options.

http://www.bigstockphoto.com/contactus.html

pling - That one question is answered in our FAQ.

https://www.bigstockphoto.com/account/tax-center/tax-center-faq.html

Are taxes withheld at the time that the money was earned, or at the time of payout?
Taxes are deducted from your earnings at the time of payout.

As always, we don't regularly monitor these forums - please contact Support with any questions and they'll be happy to help you. That's always the fastest path for a resolution.  We also have a "feedback@" email address for wishes, rants, or general feedback about features (insert bigstock.com to the end of that).   We do read those emails and take all of your feedback under consideration.  Of course, feedback@ isn't the place to send support requests when something's broken.  It's the email address to use when you're keywording photos and something is making you less efficient and you want to let us know.

Thanks for your continued support.  Everyone has seen the exciting updates we've made in the past few months and there are many more things to come. :)

Best,

Thanks!

I finally got it through with the help of support.

I got the notice too.  Filled out and waiting for approval.

How did you do it Lisa?

I filled it out 10 times and they still do not have my profile. I saved it with AOL then IE in compatibility mode, then in Safari, NONE of them successfully got my profile accepted at BS and that has to happen before you can fill out the tax form and get paid. HEEEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPP!

They could not have made this easy could they like, click here to upload your profile. Why do they need it uploaded anyway as they have allready had it for more than five years.

If the commission is nothing. I want to opt out of others buying a print made from my images. If I can't opt out, I will delete my profile. I asked about this and I am waiting for an answer.

No commissions are mentioned on the site or in a recent email to members. >:(
