Software - General / Re: Bryce 6.3
« on: December 25, 2009, 23:23 »
Those are very interesting.  I don't know about micros, but some would make nice posters - have you tried that?  Were they done with the basic software only?  I notice they and Vue sell a lot of extras...

I have only the basic software, no extras.

I have sold many prints as fine art prints in local and regional art stores. Several hundred in fact. As you have full control of the entire image, they are a vision of yours, as is photography or any other art form.

That's beautiful, Lcj, what software did you use?

Bryce 6.0

Fun and low cost. And you can copyright everything you produce and sell it anyplace you want.
Check my port om any of the sites linked to this post for lots of samples

Have fun!

It's not something I'm interested for commercial purposes, just for the fun of it.

Why not for commercial? It is fun and my rejection rate is near zero with them with DT or BigStock and they do sell. Try it!

This image took me 15 minutes to design and about an hour to render. In PS change it from bitmap to .jpg

Fun. I have had renders take 18 hours before. Not a problem as I have three computers.

Bigstock.com / Re: Increase in BigStock downloads lately?
« on: November 12, 2009, 13:10 »
October was the best of the last seven months on BigStock. So the answer is YES! (for me ;D)

According to Tim (on BigStock forum) the big push has not even started yet .... and it will be a big push ... soon! The best is yet to come. So I hope a lot of the disenchanted leave and make more sales for me.

I took all my exclusive image out of the exclusive pool after the cut in commission for non-exclusive members.
I get really irritated at the RAH RAH RAH SIS BOOM BAH dtdtdt Cheerleader CRAP.  But, it seems to be what it takes to stay on good terms.

I wonder if those cheerleaders are sincere about all that mush?   :-* :-* :-* ;D

Not sure if I am one of the DT "cheerleaders" you are referring to or not.  I certainly haven't made it a secret that I think highly of them.  I also haven't hidden my concerns when I had issues with them or any site (like when commissions were cut recently).

Maybe if my sales had plummeted there like I keep reading that some have I would feel differently, but my sales at DT have remained strong and I continue to think they are a well-run and contributor friendly site.  This is my experience since I joined them in 2005.  Sorry if that sounds like Rah Rah to you.

Most of the sites have their "cheerleaders".  I may not agree with some of the opinions I read here, but I would not insult people or question their sincerity just because I disagree with them...

Amen!! I am with you Lisafx. I like DT also.
This started as a POSITIVE thread and I for one would like to see the negative comments gone! There is another thread that is nothing but negative, post the hard feelings there if anyone has them.

Great profile page;
nice earnings but still behind SS;
nice statistic page;
database exposure numbers;
favorite photographers feature;
their spiral logo;
pending images countdown;
image levels;
monthly uploads feature.

Pending images countdown: I think is broken! For the last five days I have uploaded every day and the countdown started at 155 hours and it is still 145 to 150 hours for all five days! They need a new Rolex :)

General Stock Discussion / Re: The use of a square image
« on: November 03, 2009, 10:00 »

Lookstat are claiming that vertical images earned double what horizontal and square images did in 2008

Hi there,

Sorry if the post was unclear, but we found that horizontal outsold both vertical and square, which does line up with the anecdotal searches you described. My guess is that there is more 'off-the-shelf' use than one might initially think and that more microstock images end up in electronic uses which are mainly horizontally oriented screens.

Rahul

You may very well be correct but I still like square!

October has been my best month on BigStock out of the last 7 months.
BigStock has earned me more dollars and DL's than all of the other sites I am on for October.

SS has helped BigStock in a very positive way in my oppion.

BigStock outsold all other sites combined. Best month of the last seven months. SS is having an impact in my opinion.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Database cleanup
« on: October 29, 2009, 11:05 »
There are other factors to consider before deleting images.

Ex: NYC skyline before the twin towers. Then with the twin towers. Then with the twin towers being destroyed. Then a NYC skyline without the twin towers but with a new structure in their place.

Other images of less obvious values could also be lost. EX: Fashions of 10 years ago. etc.

To blindly delete the images would be wrong in many cases.

Photo Critique / Re: Help Seeing Poor Optical Performance Please
« on: October 13, 2009, 07:46 »
This entire series was denied by DT due to "Poor optical performance due to low lens quality, such as lens fringing, chromatic aberrations, uneven sharpness in focus area."  I now know DT does NOT allow discussion of denials on their boards. :- )

Anyway, I'd greatly appreciate if someone could help me see it. Another image taken with the same lens was approved. Of course that's neither here nor there. I'm not objecting, I'm really new and just learning, but I can't very well correct or prevent something I'm not seeing.

Thanks!

What brand and model camera and which lens used? From the sample you uploaded, it has blown out highlights and wrong white balance. The rest of the claimed faults cannot be see at this small resolution.

Don't know if this is a coincidence or not but BigStock has pick up a lot over the last week . . .  I hope its the influence from SS.  Anyone else seeing changes in sales for the better?

E

YES! Downloads from BigStock are now running double the normal amount for me. 3-10 per day. I expect this is just the beginning and we will see steady growth in the very near future.

-Larry

Must be a search engine change.  My sales there have dropped like a rock this month.

Seriously, they are back to sales levels from two years or more ago for me (when my portfolio was half the current size).

It may be the subject that is in question. Your port is great Lisafx, but how much of it is "Milwaukee" "Wisconsin" and "Golf" as these subjects are 2/3 of my downloads. I think when one person is having a bad month another is having a great one ...... just depending on subjects being bought.

Plus your on SS and I am not .... could the sales be going to SS customers? (that may never have seen mine)

I can't see how anything will change. Will SS buyers migrate to BigStock? I doubt it.

Who said anything about buyers migrating from ss?
How about NEW buyers coming from the advertising and promotion from SS?
SS is putting up the cash!

Why must nearly everyone think negative about nearly every site ever mentioned on this forum?

-Larry

The biggest in what? Capital? Images? Buyers?

The Big 6 refers to the poll on this site, which I think is based on royalties earned.

You got it Lisafx, you are smarter than all of them. How they could not know the reference is to the poll standings on this site, is beyond me. It is based on sales dollars earned each month, nothing else. NOT the size of the company or how much money they have. It's how much WE get that counts.

-Larry

There is no big 4.

Funny! The biggest four are the big four. The biggest five are the big five. Etc., Etc., Now do you understand?

68
Will BigStock earn a spot as one of the BIG FOUR with a big push from Shutterstock?

Where do you think BigStock will rank in the big 6 by December 31 of this year?

My guess is #4

Yours?

Cutcaster / Re: anyone out there selling?
« on: October 01, 2009, 13:16 »
Zero sales and the views are mostly my own. (yes, your own views count.) 440 images on site.

I like John but I am ready to give up

The mouse over views cut off 1/3 of the horizontal images and description. (needs to be fixed!)

-Larry

I changed my mind! I am not going to give up on John this early as he is a nice person; giving it his all and without us he cannot make it.
So I uploaded some more and will hope for the best for me, you, and John.

No sales for me either with 1000 pics on line. Same thing for YAY and ZYM these days....
3DS is doing better for me with the same portfolio...

Your link to Cutcaster does not work. Your account with them is a number, not your user ID.

Has anyone observed any increase in sales at BigStock after this announcement?  Some people in their forum have, but I have'nt sold anything in the past days.  :-\

10 downloads in the first 24 hours. Like Lisafx now back to normal.

What will the new normal be next month or so?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Attach a fake Model Release?
« on: September 24, 2009, 15:20 »
I wonder what happens if anyone attach at stock sites a fake model releases, I mean, a fake signature and fake data

It is forgery and fraud, a criminal offence, you go to jail. On any site they would close your account and you would lose all earned income, plus the site may sue you for their loss.

Don't even think about it!

I  have  pics  on  BigStock  but  not  on  SS.  Could  it  be  possible  to  upload  the  first  10  submissions  from  BigStock  to  SS?  In  other  words  -  if  they're  acceptable  on  BigStock  would  they  be  acceptable  on  SS?

NO! Just because one approver liked them, the next may hate them. Every submission to nearly anysite will get a different approver and you never know what they are going to like or dislike.

Just submit your 10 best. (and a small prayer may help)

How can a reduction in competition be good for contributors? This shakeout is part of the  of stock imagery. When everyone is selling the exact same products in shops essentially next door to each other, there is nothing left to compete on but price, and soon all the margin is gone.

Eventually every photo is available on every site. For 10 cents.

Tell me why I'm wrong.

Competition results in LOWER prices. The LACK of competition results in higher prices!

Example: One gas station in a one hundred mile stretch of highway. = $6.00 per gallon
add 50 more gas stations to the same highway = $3.50 per gallon.

I wish about 20 RF sites would dry up and fade away now. Start on the list at the right of this page work your way up from the bottom.
