General Stock Discussion / Re: 500px beside microstock ?
« on: January 18, 2016, 18:07 »
It really took off in June, 2015, for me. Since then, I had several sales each month, with commissions varying between $24.5 and $175, which made 500px my 4th earner of the year, with better performance than Alamy, 123RF, DT, DP, P5 or FAA.

I have 2 sales in 2016, so far.

How large is your port?

I have a selection of about 280 photos.

Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk

Are all those 280 approved in the "store"?

Lots of folks extend their Christmas break until January 6 in Europe and the Eastern Orthodox Church celebrates Christmas on January 7. So it's a bit early to sound the alarm bells.

Some people report good sales, but I would say it is still early days. Check the other threads about 500px.

It's a nice photo. Like others said, wait a while and re-submit together with other stuff.

It's mostly subs now with the occasional credit sale for me, but still one of the better earners for me, so I'm sticking with them for now.

Not sure what you mean by "Micro is new to editorial", SS has been selling editorial for years.

New Sites - General / Re: Photokore sold to Getty?
« on: December 13, 2015, 21:13 »
On 11/12 I received a mail from PHOTOKORE telling me that the site will close on 9/12!! (why is the mail send AFTER the closure????)
And telling me that I can request payment.
Unfortunately the link for that purpose
http://www.photokore.com/
doesn't work anymore and I have no clue how to get my 50 $ paid.
I have sent a mail to [email protected] but have no answer.
. I have tried to get my payment in November, but as I was < 100$ I was instructed to wait a mailing in December!
Any other of you in the same case?
jean

if you are having the same problem I had, first go to
http://www.photokore.com/member/login/ssl

and login to the site, then click the request earnings link

Brilliant! You're a genius! Thank you very much!

Log in is only for customer I think. What do you want to know?

How do I track sales and royalties?

New Sites - General / Photokore sold to Getty?
« on: December 11, 2015, 01:21 »
I had some images on photokore. Now I get an email that my images are on gettyimagesbank.com , a Korean sub site. Sure enough my images are being sold there. The site is all in Korean so I have no idea how to log in, etc. Anybody know what's going on?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Kelly Thompson to 500PX
« on: November 27, 2015, 01:49 »
Thanks, didn't know that. So it's only possible to see that by clicking each image...
Contributor tools certainly need some improvement on 500px...

There's a brief explanation here (second section)

https://support.500px.com/hc/en-us/articles/204031108-500px-Marketplace-Buyer-FAQ

If you have statistics (I have temporarily) it will tell me how many you have in the store - not which, but they show up at the beginning of your portfolio. Contributor tools are virtually non-existent unless there's something I've missed.

Thanks, I didn't know that. Very helpful. As slow or better hardly-existent as their review is, it will make it impossible to build up a reasonable portfolio of images that are on sale.

Partner sales plus subs make up about 2/3 of my income, credit sales the rest, I'm independent.

Photography Equipment / Re: RX10ii stills
« on: November 16, 2015, 17:58 »
I have just bought the RX10 mk2 to shoot video.

I'm a little concerned about the quality for stills.
Is anyone shooting stills with this camera and getting them accepted at SS or FT?

Thanks for any comments and/or experiences

I have had the R10 mk1 for more than a year and the stills are accepted at all sites. No problem. I usually downsize. The lens is very good but DOF is quite shallow, so if you use f2.8 on close subjects, yes, only the center will be sharp. That's to be expected. I get better results with f4 or 5.6. The multiple image noise reduction works very well and lets you take decent shots in poor light situations.

Thanks Shiyali -
I presume the multiple image noise reduction is when shooting jpgs? If so, wonder if that is as good as shooting RAW files then using Lightroom noise reduction?
I've only just got the camera so haven't had time to check out its intricacies.

Yes, jpgs, I only shoot jpg, so I don't know about RAW. There is a very good e-book available for the RX10, I have it and recommend it.

Better read those terms first . . .

You grant to GoPro and its licensees, successors and assigns a worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, fully paid-up, royalty-free, right and license, with the right to sublicense . . . .

Another old timer perspective. I've been with DT for 10 years, the high points for me were the years 2007 to 2009, after that a gentle slope downwards, where today income is about 30% to 50% of the peak period with steady portfolio increase.

I've had multiple sales on redbubble where I have a very small portfolio, one large sale on Crated, and have some UK friends who sell a lot on P4  - I make the most on FAA - I'm not on zazzle - that's it for my experience.

Interested to know other's experience.

Has anyone heard of eagalart? They look to be a new Canadian site.

I looked at eagalart, it seems a pretty well designed site, but no IPTC metadata, too bad. What's the link to P4? Could you please post it, thanks.

I upload 200 images this week. Today the first sale.
The upload is totaly simple. I only upload via FTP and thats it. The files are online after FTP uploading. No editing no review.
Picfair only takes 20% commission.

To be too good to be true  ;D

Is there anything wrong with Picfair what I've overlooked?

2 years, 600 images, 15,000 views, 4 sales. Maybe that's what's wrong. Their license is not true royalty-free and does not allow advertising. So you have tons of pics on there without model releases. It's neither editorial nor commercial.

i recently took all of my photos off
FAA
Crated
Viewbug
Image brief
500px

the ROI was not worth having my work stolen for web sites.

How did you delete images from Crated? One by one or is there a bulk option?

Why don't you submit a few batches without the EXIF data and see what happens, then your assumed "software" won't see exposure time, ISO, aperture, etc.

Great idea. I wouldn't be surprised if they reject images lacking EXIF data though, certainly for editorial stuff. Whenever I've got the date wrong in an editorial caption, they're on it like a hawk.

that's exactly what will happen -- anyone ever tried logging into Facebook or Google after erasing cookies?! Just have a look at what they're displaying when someone dares using their right to "Privacy" or what's left of it. SS will do the same when EXIF data is missing, as will most-any of those presumably "new economy" outfits out there. You could fake the EXIF entires though (if you haven't got better things to do and from now on out also want to lose time having to "edit" EXIF info too)...

Not correct, while editorial need to have the EXIF date, etc match the description, RF images do not needed the EXIF intact. I have submitted hundreds of images without it. It makes no difference whatsoever as far as reviews go.

122
My point was that they are using software to review images, nothing more, nothing less.

Your whole thesis is based on the assumption that the submitted images have the EXIF data intact. EXIF can be stripped through post-processing software, etc. Why don't you submit a few batches without the EXIF data and see what happens, then your assumed "software" won't see exposure time, ISO, aperture, etc.

123
Thanks for finding out this tip, but I'm certainly not going to prepare a separate set of images with blank title fields just for Fotolia. With my sales it's not worth the effort, they get what everybody else gets.

124
We need another thread on SS rejections?

I agree. and........."THEY DONT CARE!!!!!!!!!!!! All they know and all that matters to them is 400,000 new ones are  accepted weekly or whatever.

Yes, time to move on. Either quit uploading or live with it. Griping about it will achieve about as much as a dog barking at a passing train (Chinese proverb, I think).
