General Stock Discussion / Re: GL New iStock? We Should
« on: January 16, 2013, 12:02 »
Just checking: that wording seems to suggest you don't accepte editorial?
Correct, we do not offer an editorial license at this time.
Thank you for confirming.
In best Duncan Bannatyne mode, "And for that reason, I'm out!"

That would be me too as a large proportion of my port is editorial. Kelly, is that something you are considering or would consider in the near future? Regards, David.

on FAA, what does "Dimensions and Price (Originals and Non-Print-On-Demand Prints)" mean and I would think that it would pick this data up from the camera. I certainly wouldn't want to put that info in manually for every one of my images. And it looks like you have to upsize if you want more money.  I'm shooting a D700, 12 mp.

To answer the first part - As I understand it, that is only needed if you are selling an original piece of work (for example a painting). You're telling potential buyers the physical size of the painting/sculpture etc and your price for selling it. Just ignore that bit if you are uploading images for print on demand.
Regards, David.

Well, we were wondering about the change of name........
Seriously, good luck sorting it out! Regards, David.

Thank goodness! Thought there was something wrong with my computer (or me) as I have had the normal version all day and now suddenly this weird one. The "shout" messages (for premium members) is missing as well. I'm sure it's just a glitch and normal service will be resumed soon. Regards, David.

Hi Brett,
Welcome to MSG -what took you so long?! You have an excellent port which, in my opinion, would sell across all the major agencies. Only you can weigh up whether the drop in commission at DT from leaving exclusivity while you build ports elsewhere is viable for you.
It might be worth knowing that you can get accepted at Shutterstock and build up a portfolio before your exclusivity ends (you have an "opt out of Shutterstock" in your account -which keeps your images offline until you opt back in).
Best of luck and a happy New Year to you to!
Kind regards, David.

New Sites - General / Re: Pocketstock RIP?
« on: December 27, 2012, 14:23 »
Working fine here in the UK (IE9) using both the links in this thread and the one under "low earners" over on the right. Until Trek mentioned it earlier I hadn't realised they were a Veer partner site -all my Veer port is there under the Compass Premium RF badge.
Might be worth mentioning that I am seeing prices in GBP and their offices are in London. Are there perhaps regional sites for Pocketstock? The UK one working and others not? Regards, David.

Have a great one and a brilliant 2013! I look forward to all your interesting, informative, (and sometimes provocative and just downright annoying) posts in the coming year. And special good wishes to Tyler for making this all happen.
Kind regards, David.

Shutterstock.com / Re: $75 sensitive use?
« on: December 24, 2012, 10:48 »
The Individual Image Licenses can include an option for Sensitive Use but that doesn't automatically mean they are being used in that way. Here's a link to a Shutterbuzz post about the subject http://www.shutterstock.com/buzz/individual-image-licenses-update
Kind regards, David.

Edit to fix wonky link (I hope!)

Yes but has anybody really hit the jackpot and got a sale on cutcaster this month???

That was me! A 1977 B/W shot of Morris Minor cars at an autocross event ($1.84 commission). Regards, David.

I'm still waiting for the thank you email sent to contributors after the IPO :'(

I registered via Fotolia.co.uk and (last time I looked) one credit was equal to 0.75 GBP, which strikes me as being a better rate than those getting US$ (though things can obviously fluctuate all the time). Regards, David.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Editorial Stock Question
« on: December 10, 2012, 07:52 »
Canstock, at this time, do not take editorial images. There are a number of us that really wish they would and we post in the forum there saying that from time to time. It's not something they have ruled out forever I think, but not at the moment.
Along with Fotolia they are now among the minority of (bigger) sites not to take editorial. Keep hoping! Regards, David.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Email Alert Keyword
« on: December 05, 2012, 12:59 »
Err, not sure she meant that -you don't get an email alert for flagged keywords (well I don't anyway!). Isn't it the service for buyers where they send you an email if there are new images matching the keyword/s you're interested in (e.g. frogs). I'm sure I've seen that on their newsletters but can't find anything on the site. Or is that another agent? Age brings confusion.....Regards, David.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: The Fall Of An Empire
« on: December 05, 2012, 05:26 »
The upload limit was increased recently.

Non-Exclusive Upload Limits
Default now 28/week (was 18)
Bronze now 30/week (was 20)
Silver now 40/week (was 24)
Gold now 50/week (was 30)
Diamond now 60/week (was 38)
Black Diamond now 70/week (was 40)

Really? That's news to me. Can't find any announcement about that and my upload limit (non exclusive) still says 18 per week. Anyone else know anything about this or have a link?  Regards, David.

I thought the hit last year by Aloe Blacc "I need a dollar" was a pretty good microstock theme song. Made me smile every time it came on the radio.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Uploading Issues on Shutter
« on: November 12, 2012, 14:51 »
Yep, uploaded a batch of 5 (via the web site uploader) but they weren't there when I went to the edit/submit page. Re-uploaded the set and still nothing. They all (both sets) showed up after an hour or so though. Just submitted the 5 and deleted the dupes. Obviously, just a bit slow on the processing - probaly due to the overload from everyone creating galleries (see other thread). Regards, David.

Veer / Re: Dashboard Issues?
« on: October 25, 2012, 07:41 »
25th now and still can't upload photos.
And the worst thing is that it still lets you go through the upload process before giving you the "not processed" message. If they know it's broken can't they just switch it right off until they get around to fixing it? The lack of communication here (or on their Facebook/Twitter pages) doesn't help matters. Regards, David.

Off Topic / Re: Magazine Deathwatch
« on: October 19, 2012, 13:35 »
Sad to hear that. I always hate to see magazines and newspapers with a long history disappear from the newstands. Had a few stock shots used in Newsweek back in the day (nothing glamorous like front covers or anything). Saying that, when did I last read it? -my subscription ran out a long time ago - and these days I get most of my news from television or the internet.
Still, I'm not all bad -won a Kindle last year and it's still in the box. Just went on holiday to Greece and went out to buy REAL books to take. How can you read a Page Turner when you can't turn the pages ;D Regards, David.

Veer / Re: Problems uploading via browser?
« on: October 17, 2012, 12:45 »
I find the first attempt fails, then the second attempt goes through each time.  Odd, but at least it is possible to upload.

Gave that a try -but, no, just keep getting the unknown error message. It's about time they turned that into a known error -and fixed it. Regards, David.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Jon Oringer just sent me an e-mail...
« on: October 16, 2012, 01:32 »
My email must still be "in the post" :( Did everyone get one or was it just the bigger contributers/sellers? Nice thought though -for those that did get one! Regards, David.

Veer / Re: Dashboard Issues?
« on: October 11, 2012, 04:45 »
Getting the Not Found message some of the time but when I do get in and try and upload (via the web site uploader not FTP) it goes through the upload stage and then a message Image Not Processed (Unknown error) appears. Been trying for a week now. Regards, David.

222
^^ Thanks Liz! That was going to bother me. Apologies for taking it off topic. Regards, David.

223
It's clearly not being presented as an actual photograph -so to me it seems quite acceptable. British newspapers (The Guardian especially)  have been doing these kind of montages of editorial images for years. I once had a picture of an oast house in Kent jazzed up to illustrate a Russian missile base (though that was the Sunday Sport)Obviously, this is quite different to disorting an actual news image -like adding in explosions to a picture of a war zone (to use a famous example) and trying to pass it off as genuine.
BTW -who is that celeb in the ice cream van? Looks familiar but can't quite place him. Pop star? Regards, David.

Site Related / Re: Do you subscribe to MSG? Why/ Why not?
« on: October 10, 2012, 07:20 »
Subscription is just kind of "thank you, Tyler" for me. I need no extra features at all. 25 USD is nothing compared to money I made thanks to useful info that I found on MSG.

I agree 100% with that as well. I really don't know what I would do for information (and often entertainment!) without MSG. I would also be totally happy to be seeing the ads - mostly they are relevant and targeted so I may even be missing out by not seeing them. Not seeing them certainly plays no part in my supporting the site. But, as others have said, can we not have the annoying flashing ones please (note to current sponsors).
Kind regards, David.

PS Just realised nobody mentioned the Kiva loan aspect of premium membership - nice to know we're doing some good as well.

The ancient walled city of Medina is a must see and if time, take the short ferry ride over to nearby island Gozo. Have a great trip! Regards, David.
