Maybe it's just me, but one feature I would really like is a Page 2, Page 3 etc of Recent Posts. Sometimes when the forum is busy threads come and go before I've seen them - and it's only if someone bumps them up again later that I see a thread that was relevant/interesting to me. For example, the threads currently at the bottom of the page (and about to drop off) are only two days old. Probaly just a page 2 would be plenty. Anyone else? Regards, David.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Recognizable faces of people on the street

and then there are sites like YAY which has started requiring model releases for editorial images too!

When did this happen?  ??? I submitted editorials with people in it about 3 months ago without a problem.

I submit editorial images to Yay all the time and have never encountered that. Would be interested in a few more details of what happened. It's happened to me a few times at Shutterstock because the Editorial box became unchecked during the submission process (or I forgot to check it in the first place!). Regards, David.

Wow, I must be doing something wrong.  I have never shot any of those stock cliches.  Thanks to that guy for the great concept ideas for upcoming shoots ;)

Just hope your husband likes rabbits then! ;D

HEY! NO STEALING MY NICHE

Way too late I'm afraid - bunnies and white coats are being gathered across Microland at this very moment ;)

Yaymicro / Re: Yay Distribution Deal With Alamy
« on: September 18, 2012, 13:01 »
And, sorry to burst anyones bubble here, editorial images at Yay will not be included in the distribution deal with Alamy.  Emailed Linda earlier and got confirmation on that. It's not ruled out for the future though, but it's not happening now. Still, I'll be interested to see if my non-editorials get any action at Alamy. I'm seeing this as an effort free trial to see what Alamy can do with my images. Regards, David.

Yaymicro / Re: Yay Distribution Deal With Alamy
« on: September 18, 2012, 02:52 »
Thanks for posting that response Colette. So, if I'm understanding their answer correctly, you cannot upload directly to Alamy editorial images that are available at RF micro sites but where they do a partner deal with another agency the RF editorials are fine for inclusion (but will be sold under their RM license).
That still doesn't change what I previously posted -Yay themselves do not usually include editorial images in their partner deals (regardless of whether or not Alamy would be happy to take them). I guess Yay are the ones to answer that question, so maybe they'll jump in on this thread.
For clarity, I personally wish they would include editorial images in partner deals as they make up the majority of my portfolio there -and I have told them that.
Just to confuse things a bit more (not sure if everyone realises this) but Yay sell editorial images under a RM license anyway and not RF (or did last time I looked). Regards, David.

Yaymicro / Re: Yay Distribution Deal With Alamy
« on: September 11, 2012, 03:43 »
Yay do not normally include editorial images in their partner deals and I am presuming that this will be the same. Regarding quality control -under the ill fated Veer deal my entire (tiny) Veer port went to Alamy so I'm guessing all my Yay (non editorial) will be mirrored at Alamy, regardless of whether or not it would pass Alamy QC inspection. For me it's a win because I don't really have the time to upload my back catalogue of images directly and who knows if they would have all passed inspection? All credit to Yay for giving an individual opt out on different partner deals and for the advance notice. This deal will suit some and not others -but you can choose. Regards, David.

Microstock Services / Re: Question about SS & IS approval steps-
« on: September 11, 2012, 02:41 »
so it means we cant decide in SS approval stage whether we want to post a photo for RF(releases rquired) or Editorial (releases not required). Its like posting 10 images for RF only.. right ?

You are confusing license type (Royalty Free/Rights Managed) with image type (Editorial/Commercial). Virtually all microstock agencies sell under an RF license regardless of the image type. Royalty Free just means you pay once -use many times (without paying a "Royalty" -probaly better understood if you think of it as a Usage/Reproduction fee for each time the image is used).
For SS you can certainly submit editorial images for initial approval. Not sure about Istock as they were not taking editorial when I got approved (do not see why not though).
As Jens said above, editorial images do need to be "newsworthy" in some way (not just portraits that you don't have a model release for) and you must follow their caption requirements for editorial images EXACTLY. Seriously, down to dashes, semi colons, capital letters or not etc your caption must follow the correct format.
Good luck with your applications! Regards, David.

Thanks for the fix! And, yes, I'd like more portfolio link options. Regards, David.

Ok.  I've added Veer, Yay, Cutcaster and PhotoDune

Thanks again for the quick work! Now what am I doing wrong with the Cutcaster link? It just takes you to the whole site and not my port. I used the 10 digit number sequence at the end of my referral code, which I assume is my UserID number there.  I only just added it a few minutes ago -does it take a while to work properly? Regards, David.

Great to have the gauges and portfolio links back. Thanks! None of the  links to 123RF seem to work -you just get a wikipedia article on Link Rot. Also, any plans to add more portfolio links like before -Veer, Cutcaster, Yay etc? Regards, David.

Just to support Jsnover :  I'm on IE9 and I can't see it either ...

IE9 here as well - not showing for me. I voted against it anyway so not a problem! I thought this was a forum where if you agree/disagree with a post you could reply publicly. Regards, David.

123RF / Re: How is everyone doing on 123RF
« on: August 26, 2012, 14:12 »
I didn't even know that microstock was around in 1969.  Ha.  Same here, nothing but jibberish on the site.

Off topic (sorry) but it's a bit weird because I have been recalling 1969 all day -because of the death of Neil Armstrong. We had a brilliant primary school headmaster who told us we didn't have to come to school the next day if we wanted to watch the first steps on the moon. I stayed up all night and eventually saw it live around 5.00am (UK time). That's got to be (for me) the standout historic moment of my life. It sort of puts a temporary bug at 123 into perspective. Regards, David.

I'm unable to check for daily DLs, instead the revised agreement pops up. The agreement was put in place in Feb, so I don't know why is it showing up now. When I try to check my earnings they're at zero for the last six months (since the latest agreement is in effect). Is anyone else getting this?

Not just you Stan. I'm getting a yearly earning page going back to 1969 (!), no recorded sales for the last few months and a total balance about $15 short of where it actually is. Not too worried about it -it's obviously a bug and things will back to normal soon enough (I hope). Regards, David.

Cutcaster / Re: Review times
« on: August 17, 2012, 13:53 »
I had some waiting a while in the same period. All reviewed in the last couple of days. It's August, holiday season, when approval times tend to get slower everywhere. I don't know, but I would guess, they do the reviewing in house so holidays would affect things. I'd rather wait a bit longer than have a temp reviewer just reject everything to get through the queue. Regards, David.

Hi, does anyone use Picture Nation, I use it and have my a default folder for my photos, but I want a separate folder for some of my other pictures. I.E. Eastbourne airshow pictures, b :)ut I can only find a default folder.

Andy, go to View my Albums. At the top left under the wording "My Albums" is a button to click marked "Add New Album". Just give it the title and description you want then hit save. Done!
You do realise BTW this is just for your own use - buyers do not see and cannot search within individual albums. Off topic, but since you mentioned it, I hope you didn't miss the Vulcan bomber on Saturday. Totally breathtaking site and certainly the standout moment of this years Airbourne. Kind regards, David.

I would encourage everyone to review their portfolio with SS. I discovered today that many of my images had the same description/title/caption. A shot of a farm landscape that I took was found when you typed "small bridge construction" in the SS search box (or something to that effect). 10 of my approved images had the same description/title/caption and they were totally different images.

I also noticed many of my images/videos no longer have titles and or descriptions. I've contacted SS today but I would encourage you all to review your approved images with SS.

I'm a Windows user.

Were they all submitted in the same batch using the Content Editor? It has a nasty habit of (sometimes) transposing the details of one image across every other image in the same batch. This happens at the point that you click on Submit. Luckily, in most cases you get the error message (querying spellings etc) and that gives you a second chance to check the image details are still correct. Checking differently captioned images and clicking Save Work before you go to the Submit stage seems to work (so far). Regards, David.

« on: August 10, 2012, 05:01 »
Thanks for the reminder Pete! I'll be sure to look out tonight. For many years I was on Greek island holidays at this time of year and it was always a magical start to sit on the balcony with a glass of Retsina watching the "shooting stars".
Actually a good day all round here in Hastings for watching the skies: The Eastbourne "Airbourne" airshow is just about to start so I should be seeing a good array of aircraft passing down the coast (should have started yesterday but heavy sea mist aborted the flying). Off there myself tommorow for a closer view. Vulcan bomber probaly going to be the highlight!

Good luck with your telescope set up!
Regards,
David.
