A while back that started having an "Image of the day" which seems to have become "Image of the year". They hardly ever update their own blog anymore either. I dropped my entire portfolio (about 900) down to $5 (from a rather optimistic $25) some while back. Result -not a single sale. Total to date (since they launched) is about $3 in sub sales. I've had more than that on Istock after only a few weeks with around 50 or so files. I persevere because of the Corbis name -surely they are going to do something with it eventually. Final point, I wish they would change that horrible name (with its connotations of snap shots). CorbisMicro would get my vote! Regards, David

I'd reccomend Photography Monthly. It's the sister magazine to Professional Photographer which Seren mentioned. However Professional Photographer has lots of business orientated content, so if your neice was looking to a career in photography that might be the one. They are both well written. Joined them last week after seeing the announcement about editorial photos. Had my first editorial sale after four days (an archive shot of former P.M. Margaret Thatcher)   so was encouraged by that. Next batch didn't go so well. Three photos of a Shell petrol station rejected as not being of interest for editorial but two others from the same set accepted?! A Barclays Bank sign rejected as not being of editorial use. Errh well I was under the impression there is a world wide banking crisis and every newspaper/web site/tv report is crammed with bank signage photos. Seems a bit hit and miss as to what they deem editorial. All the same I shall keep uploading as it seems a good site. Regards, David

I can't see why they would go any time soon because they are owned by Corbis.  If they were an independent site or a site owned by inpatient shareholders, they would be in serious trouble.  Isn't it up to the owner of Corbis to make these decisions?  He isn't in a rush to see them make a profit is he?

And that, surely, is the main point. Am I not right in thinking that even Corbis themselves have never made a profit! Bill is in for the long game I would have thought given his resources. That said I'm surprised at the slow progress of SV given the backing potentially available. I would have expected a lot more marketing by now. Some stats for you: Portfolio size approx 900 . Photo pricing $25 (have now contacted SV and asked them to globally reduce to $5 - I am getting an increasing number of views but no sales so am hoping a more realistic price will lead to a surge in sales). Anyone else had a rejection with the simple message "not stock material, no commercial potential"? New one on me! Their home page states that they post virtually all images providing they pass technical and legal requirements. The pictures of a child cutting out pastry on a kitchen worktop is online with two other libraries and would illustrate a whole range of things to do with children/play/development/education etc. I do not question SV's right to accept or reject any image they choose (it is their library!), just surprised at the reason. 32 years of working with stock images made me feel it had stock potential!

I have been uploading to them since March and now have around 400 online. No sales to date. As mentioned you cannot currently see how many views your photos have had so have no idea how much traffic they are getting. I queried this on their blog and they replied that they were hoping to add this in the future. However, they are still very new and I will be continuing to upload to them. They just need to build their customer base. Happy selling out there, David
