My content is marked as exclusive there  >:(

Mine too ??? I've started a thread on the DT forum asking about the commission we get via the new site and also mentioned the "exclusive" thing in a second post. No response from DT as yet, but here is the link for future referencehttp://www.dreamstime.com/thread_44637

Funny that true editorial Means News worthy to some And a position of respect. Not just another person in a crowd with a camera. what microstock and wireimage has turned it into. In My town [Beverly Hills] anyone can shoot a premier or red carpet. . Hell in the alley behind my House every day are 50 Paparazzi waiting For Kim or Langoria to come out of Craigs restaurant. Thinking it's Important. I have to chase them away. These guys gave up doing stills 3 Years ago. all Video Now.

I'm so old school (or just old) that I think of editorial as photojournalism, telling stories through a picture or series of pictures, not always newsworthy but encompassing human interest as well. I think of Eddie Adams, Mary Ellen Mark, and Alfred Eisenstaedt (the list is long) as master story tellers whose work these days would be rejected by SS reviewers as not meeting their standard of quality before content.

I hear ya. and how much do they make. these kids with a camera or video.??? about 30 Bucks if sold.

it depends on photos..i photo a lot of mundane and big even t in europe and i know some paparazzi.
one shot the last photo of bob geldof in la before he died....he earns more than 99% of micro stocker can even imagine of earn in a year. i shoot a sport photo during euro cup 2012 in ukraine....i sold it for more than 12000 pounds.
clearly if u shoot jay z entering a club you want earn a lot but still 50 60 dollar for simple usage....and even doing 60 dollar nowadays in micro good luck.

Not sure who you meant -but Bob Geldof (as in Irish singer) is alive and well. Just had to frantically check after reading your post :o I met and photographed Bob quite a few times back in the day, so your comment was a bit of a shock!

I upload to Fotalia but I have not worked out how to upload to Adobe Stock. Can someone let me know please?

You can't! Just carry on uploading to FT and it will be automatically mirrored on Adobe Stock  :)

Alamy.com / RF Editorial coming to Alamy!
« on: March 30, 2016, 14:14 »
Excuse me for starting a new thread -but I think this is pretty major news that has got somewhat lost in the thread here http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php?topic=27342.0

Around post 10, James from Alamy dropped the news. With the forthcoming new contributor tools at Alamy you will now be able to choose a new RF Editorial category. Why is this important? Well it means that those of us that concentrate on editorial images on microstock (which are RF) will now be able to upload the same or similar images to Alamy - exposing our work to a whole new set of buyers. For anyone not clear about the current situation -editorials on Alamy have to be under a RM (Rights Managed) license and they do not allow you to upload images that are available under a RF license elsewhere.

With the new RF Editorial category you will no longer have to make that either (Alamy) or (Microstock) decision. Of course, I understand that many contributors may wish to continue to keep their portfolios distinctive on both -which you can. For contributors like me who have their editorial ports as RF on microstock (and, therefore, currently excluded from Alamy editorial) this is great news!

With the release of the new tools (coming soon) you'll be able to select RF editorial too.
Cheers

Wow! Did I just read and understand that correctly? We'll be able to upload editorial images which we currently have under an RF license elsewhere?
That's fantastic news if I've understood correctly. The vast majority of my port is editorial, but I cannot currently upload those to Alamy because they have to be RM if editorial.
Kind regards, david.

Yes, you read and understood that correctly :)

Cheers

James A

Thank you James. That's brilliant news!

Kind regards, David.

I'm not concerned about this -it's only floating an idea for something that they may try in the future (and would be optional anyway).
Realistically, how many people are going to fork out a monthly subscription to have FAA images displayed on a screen on the wall? I already have a screen that gives me constantly changing images for free -it's called a television :)
What's interesting is that this great new idea is very similar to what Bill Gates had in mind many years ago when he founded what was to become Corbis. That went well, as we know ;)

What they don't realize is that many of the best closed their account and the rest will now think a lot before they upload. They moved from being the agency that everyone supported to the one that people now hate

Indeed - while they can measure the people and images they lose what they can never know is how many would have signed up and uploaded, but won't now. Count me amongst those. I spent a good amount of time poring over the site last week and had decided join. Now I won't. I don't trust them anymore (whatever changes to the terms, if any, they might make).

Veer / Re: Veer closing
« on: March 24, 2016, 02:30 »
Has anybody actually received a payment in March who was below the $100 threshold?

Yep. $98 .05 on Monday 21st (Paypal).

123RF / Re: Question to those who have images at 123rf
« on: March 23, 2016, 14:42 »
I believe it's because it's an EVO license.

It is indeed. That's their premium collection (think Offset on SS or Signature on Istock). Not available to riff raff like me but superstar microstockers can apply (I believe).

Veer / Re: Veer closing
« on: March 22, 2016, 06:01 »
Well that "Dash for Cash" ended up being more like a marathon. Six years after earning around $75 from their 2010 upload bonus promotion I've finally got the money! One EL and 3 or so sub sales in the years since pushed me to less than $2 short of the payout. With hindsight, i don't think Corbis ever really liked or understood the microstock industry. A failed first attempt with the appallingly named Snap Village and then a poor second go with the Veer Marketplace - the budget section of their (rather full of itself) traditional Veer agency. Sadly, few of my images that are accepted and sell on other agencies met the "aesthetic qualities their clients expected". Ditching vital keywords to fit within their Controlled Vocabulary didn't help matters nor did a poorly maintained website which at one point went the best part of a year with a broken uploader. Glad to have my money? Yes. Sorry to see Veer go? No.
That said, spare a thought for those employees at Veer who will no longer have jobs. I have never had anything but friendly and helpful communication with them and back in the day Brian O'Shea did a storming job of helping contributors -both on SV and later Veer. End of an era.....

That's a cool table, thanks for posting the link. I don't know of similar sites, though.

I see Leaf at 337 out of 12213 photographers, with 23,245 images...very impressive!

I'm there at 7430 position. Better upload a few more then to catch Tyler up :)

You might try https://books.google.com/?hl=en&safe=strict and search your name or your stock user name. You'll be surprised what you'll find...

Thanks for that link! I'm not new to this but had never tried that before and found a whole bunch of book uses of my images  :) Regards, David.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Review time on 123rf
« on: March 10, 2016, 14:49 »
Not the first time this has been discussed and, as before, editorial submissions fare much worse. I have uploads from January 1 onwards awaiting review. Editorial reviews used to be from minutes to a few hours at most. I really do not want to keep sending emails to support asking for a review. Why can't they just do it? Regards, David.

Sadly, they may not post here like they used to -but they're certainly reading. Less than a day after posting the above all my backlog of images were reviewed today :) That would be a bit too much of a co-incidence I think. So thank you 123rf for that. Hopefully, we can get back to more timely reviews soon. One image got missed and is still pending -but I'll not be churlish about that.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Processing problem?
« on: March 05, 2016, 10:34 »
Probaly nothing to worry about. DT have said in the past that images can be "Under Review" from hours to several days. I assume it's just where a reviewer has booked out a number of submissions to work through -and hasn't got to yours yet. I've had images Under Review for up to three days. It's also not unknown for images to go back into the pending queue again  :) Regards, David.

I just signed up. Never tried the print market before, lets see what happens.

How much commission do they pay?

You can set your own prices to whatever you want for all prints/products and that is the amount you normally receive. FAA make their money from the mark up they add to your set price.

93
Thanks! An innovation with no mention of payment cut for us! :)

Not exactly. We get half of our normal cut on these sales and the retail partners get the other half. In other words if you set your prices so that you get $100 for a particular size print you will only get $50 for one of these sales (retailer also gets $50).
That said, you can opt out of this altogether or opt out of individual retailers. This has been going for some time -I stayed opted in but haven't seen any sales through it yet. Regards, David.

New Sites - General / Re: 123stock.co.uk
« on: March 01, 2016, 09:38 »
Couldn't find any contact details on the site -names, phone number, address, etc or an About Us section giving your background, business experience, why you are starting a new stock agency. Pricing to buyers? Found some images at 2 and 3 and designs at 5 but no schedule -and as stated above what rights do buyers get for that? Where's the terms and conditions for contributors? Exclusive/non exclusive? Editorial images accepted? Review process if any? What happens after May -what will your commission rate be?
Maybe some of these points are answered if people register first. Most contributors would want to know these sort of details before registering.
And finally, the name -destined to cause confusion with long established stock image agency 123RF surely?
All credit for starting a new business but long experience here tells me people want complete transparency and answers beore uploading work to a new site. Your first post didn't augur well for that by not declaring upfront that it is your own site.

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Exciting announcement
« on: February 04, 2016, 14:48 »
Thanks Duncan for talking to us direct -a great example to other agencies. This may well be an additional revenue source for some contributors especially those who do not upload to print and product sites like FineArtAmerica and Redbubble. Personally, I requested the opt out as I do upload to them and like the ability to not only set my own mark up but also to change it whenever I like. I didn't want the FreeArt competing with that and certainly not by giving away 10x8 prints for nothing (the 25c I would have received doesn't really compare to $25 or more I would get at FAA).
Credit to Canstock for providing an individual opt out for this deal. Regards, David.

ETA Just received a reply to my support ticket from Duncan -confirming my opt out. Fast work!

Looks like it might be fixed. Just did my daily upload "test" and the image actually made it to the processing stage. Now for the backlog  :)

Exactly the same for me (both with IE and Chrome). Haven't been able to upload since Jan 19. Annoying because it messes up my workflow and I now have a backlog of new images I'll have to return to when they sort out the issue. Please let us know if you get a response from them. Regards, David.

More than one site partnering with them. I have editorials from 123rf there (I know this because of the specific captioning style). I'm pretty sure that Fotolia has come up before as well. Regards, David.
