New laptop from Apple:
http://www.theonion.com/content/video/apple_introduces_revolutionary?utm_source=embedded_video

:D

Stupidity has no limits , they made typing few times harder than on regular cell phone , I don't know how could this thing handle shortcuts....  or any work at all.

What did they gain , a giant circle slide where keyboard was once , that keyboard that you need replaced for something that only makes your work painful.

Im sorry but that product is almost useless and born to be a huge failure if it ever comes out in this form.

« on: January 24, 2009, 19:01 »
The thing is that most countries have a law that you dont have to pay nothing if you earn it abroad and you were living abroad while working for certain amount of days in that year and payed taxes there ( In Croatia is something about more than 196 day yearly ) , and Im sure similar law stands in Bosnia so , Peter that's why most people don't have to pay nothing.

Even if that country doesn't have an agreement on avoiding double taxes with Croatia, here  you dont have to pay nothing , but you have to prove that you were absent more than 196 days in that year and that you payed your taxes there.

If you had work there for less than 196 days and agreement between 2 countries doesn't exist you will pay double taxes , in the same way RT wrote , 100$ earned , 30% tax payed abroad , you pay whatever % you pay in your country on the sum of 70$.

I think all ex YU countries don't have that agreement so if US charge us we would have to pay taxes once again in our countries on the amount that was left after paying firs tax in US , but I hope it wont happen.

Anyway , out of the theme , Im curious , if someone wants to share how much taxes you others have to pay in your countries on microstock income ?

In Croatia it something like this :

Lets say you got 1000$ on your bank account this month.

The law protects authors work so you pay your tax in the way that 30% of your income is nontaxable.

So you have 700$ on which you have to pay:

1) 25%  like main tax which is 175$

2) there is tax on tax you pay to the town you live in , that varies from county to county , but is 18% for me so I have to pay 18% on those 175$ of my main tax, and that's
 31,5$.

So that would be 1000 - 175 - 31,5 = 793,50$.

I would also have to give a piece of those 793$ to social insurance but you don't have to pay that cause that authors work law  protects copyrighted work from that share.

I guess its not that big share comparing with some other countries.

Bad thing is that you cant be compensated for your work expenses paying that way , but you would have to start a small business , but those morons told me
I would have to issue a bill for every image sold , and I would have to bother with ton of paperwork and stuff like that that I'm not yet ready to play with.

Hm , I would first search for some landscapes on IS sorted by downloads before stating that unnatural skies are reducing image potential cause the results will
show just the opposite.

General Stock Discussion / Re: SS, for sure the new leader!!
« on: December 19, 2008, 16:59 »
I don't know but SS earns me about 3X more then all sites together , and that's enough for me to like them best.

Not to speak about the fact that I find them most constant in what they ask for , the way they review and reject and accept , to make it short they have constant standards.

Cameras / Lenses / Dust on prism or miror question ?
« on: December 11, 2008, 12:41 »
Ok , I had my first not so successful sensor cleanining today.

Anyway I haven't menage  to get rid of sensor dust , at least not all of it , I had three swabs attempts today  , and first time I had more than one attempt.

When I looked trough viewfinder I almost got heart attack  ;D , there were hundreds of dark f.....s looking at me from inside.
I made few shoots , and they don't show on photos so I guess they are sitting on the mirror and prism combined , I have few spots on the sensor but I cant get rid of those too this time.

No way I can  blow them away , they are stacked for good and all I managed is to move around just few of them.

Time to visit Canon again , I know how much they will ask for the sensor , but I'm wondering , what about prism and mirror ?
I guess I could live with few spots that dont show on photos , but there is an army standing between me and the object.

Does someone have similar experiences with mirror or prism , and If so , I would appreciate an advice or information.

Thanks

123RF / Re: Do you make $100/month at 123RF?
« on: December 08, 2008, 17:35 »
What's up with 123 RF these days ? It completely died on me , on a track to make $ 4 this month :(

It has to do something with my luck.

It was  quite well there for me last month , so I thought why not upload about 1000 images , so I did.

Then it stopped completely. ;D

Isn't it easier to simply save the final image without EXIF data?  Can't PS do it?

Adelaide

"Save for web" option  should do it

THe ideal setup is a dark room, a trigger, and the shortest flash duration possible.

Here is a link that is most suited to hobbyists, semipro

http://www.diyphotography.net/diy_high_speed_photography_at_home

There is more complex stuff out there, laser triggers, etc but really for those much more serious about it.

Here is the link to the Flickr group - quite useful

http://www.flickr.com/groups/highspeed/

Here is a rudimentary trigger kit from Makezine. Sort of like a school science project but it works.

http://makezine.com/flashkit/

And here is a high end kit from Kapture Group. Beyond the means of most, but some good examples and some learning here

Most of my splash work these days happens when I do a coffee shoot. I just strt dropping some cream into black coffee and fire a series using some rapid fire shooting. I'll shoot continuous of about 12 frames for each splash. You have to be really ruthless on the editing using this quick method, else your hard drive will fill very quickly.

If I get something good it's a bonus. Most of my splashes are for use as art files and haven't submitted any lately for stock.

It really is a good rainy day indoor activity. Have fun.

Nice reading , I would never come to the idea of shooting in the dark with shutter already open.

Thanks stormchaser.

For crown stuff it good to use a bowl or whatever with thin water surface , 2-3 mm.

Anyway I used to get good results ( but burned) using a PS camera and its flash and few small lamps.

Recently I bought 2 300W strobes , but I have no experience with those.

Anyway I tried to shoot some waterdrops with those strobes yesterday , but the thing is I can shoot at 1/160 with them and my 5D and that is too slow me thinks.

So can anyone share some advice or solution for that or I need more equipment for faster shoots ?

Thanks

One question!?

If somebody have bank account in EU (not Eu citizen), can h!e open Paypal account and withdraw money on that bank account!?
Will my address be a problem (Croatia), for example I can open non resident account in SLO?

Hello from Croatia

Yes you may open one , but for our authorities is illegal and I think  its considered financial crime unless you don't have double nationality.

But I dont understand why would you have to do that when we can use moneybookers without problems.

Im using it in Croatia for years all sites are paying that way except snapvillage and maybe some small earners , some had problems with it , but they always resolved that soon.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: how istock search algoritm favors exclusives
« on: December 03, 2008, 18:50 »
For me its gone over the edge.

Not so long ago I had more than 10 sales daily on week days and about 5 at weekends.

I had one or two sales in last 10 days , both bellow 0,30 , haven't reach payment last month first time in few years, and if that continues that way I wonder if I will reach it in Decembers
cause those 3$ that I miss look huge in such short time.

Featurepics is earning me at least hundred times more than IS at the moment , I will wait a month or two and if things don't change , I will stop loosing my time there.

640
I couldnt agree more.

This will be the firs time after I hit my first payout in a month about 2 years ago , that I wont , I was a buck short , and I used to have 4x better sales.

Things can only go worse , as I see it and last two weeks , were first ones that I didn't upload my batch there. I just didn't felt like doing it.

I feel we ( non exclusives ) will become numbers there , just so they can say they have 4 million images , and exclusives are going to reach for the apples

we are all picking there , cause we are just going to hold the ladders so they can stand high and hoping they will drop some on the ground for us.

There will always be some "high end" non exclusives that will do quite well , but there are not many of them out there.

I will still upload to them , probably will miss a week or two sometimes , but I wont think about rejections much , when things go much worse I will  stop uploading like I did on some other slow sites , but I will freely  do more processed , vivid and images "changed from their initial appearance"  , not thinking what istock has to say about that. I will use keyword background on
my background images and I wont explain that the brushes I used are generated from my work 3 times at month.

Lizard,

You are right.  One of the images is slightly below the 48MB mark - 47.8 or something.  Darn it.

These were my first uploads ever (they accepted me long ago, but I didn't upload the test images).  Should I upload all of them again now, or wait for their reply?

Regards,
Adelaide

If you are accepted , if the rest of the images pass , they will immediately be accepted and show up for editing , and you can resize that rejected image and send it in the next batch.

I think I know what it could be.

I guess one of your images size was under requirement , and the system recognized it immediately.

That happened to me on my first upload after passing the test.

If thats the case , and your other images pass , you will get a partial rejection and they will write you to upload that one image again but resized .

If that were 4 images for your test , you will probably get rejection , and they will tell you to resize that one  , and try again.

Im just guessing that but I think it about that.

First time ever.

I have requested bank payment from moneybookers on Sunday , 5 days ago.

Still nothing.

I have a friend working in my bank , so he told me that they received a ticket for that fee from moneybookers , and they ( moneybookers) specificated that transaction
can not be processed  before 01. 12. 2008.

That happened first time ever and I had hundreds of transactions

Well , before making any new calculations , you may want to consider that this can happen again in the future.

I guess they build their pyramid structure , and they want to keep it  the same it looks at this stage.

I feel I will own someone money in about 2-3 months  ;D

If exclusivity doesn't have nothing with this , then it must be that my images are 4 times less usefully for buyers than at this time
last year , and all the images approved from then must have no use at all. I'm not saying that , but the numbers are.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Uploads Headaches
« on: November 25, 2008, 11:04 »
Almost the same for me , sometimes it reads the data sometimes not , no matter what I use for keywording , (most commonly Bridge) , and the description field is what I find most problematic for me.
I tried uploading with DeepMeta but it usually stops in the middle of process , or I end up with double uploads.

Usually I only upload images , and then I do the rest of the process when I find time , or when I feel like I have the nerves to deal with that beast.

I dont know if Im kicking myself from behind , cause I dont know how that search works , but I was wondering if maybe it remembers first upload date , and then after few weeks when I process the image and send it to pending ,  when it gets approved , it gets buried cause it has no views from the date it was uploaded , or is it only the approval date that matters ?

I dont know but my new stuff doesn't almost sell at all.
